Welcome to National Orange Blossom Day!

National Orange Blossom Day on June 27th each year encourages us to enjoy orange blossoms for their aesthetic beauty. Orange blossoms have been used in culinary dishes, desserts, and teas worldwide. They add a slight citrus flavor to any dish!

Fragrant orange blossoms offer multiple health benefits, too. When prepared correctly, they make a delicious tea or orange blossom water. Some of the advantages may include improved sleep, reduced anxiety, and improved circulation.

Instant Juice: 2023 RB Muwaffaq Parkman commits to Syracuse football - The Juice Online (the juice; Sears)

A quick take on 2023 RB Muwaffaq Parkman committing to Syracuse on Sunday afternoon:

WHAT HAPPENED: Syracuse received a commitment from Muwaffaq Parkman, a running back from Hillsdale (NJ) High. Parkman was among a large group on campus this past weekend for official visits, and it was his second visit since he was on campus in March. The Orange picked up the speedy and shifty running back, who is also a dual sport athletic in track and field, and reports a 4.3 in the 40M dash.

ANALYSIS: Syracuse continues its recruiting push in its own backyard. In the last week, the Orange received commitments from New York’s Zyian Moultrie-Goddard and Jalil Smith after receiving commitments from David Clement and Rashard Perry earlier in the year. Parkman becomes the fifth commitment from the tri-state area, joining South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers.

HERO: Another day, another Nick Monroe led commitment. All three commitments from the past week (Moultrie-Goddard, Smith and now Parkman) had Monroe as the lead recruiter. Though Parkman announced the commitment on Sunday, he actually committed a day before, with Monroe and running backs coach Mike Lynch both hinting at the commitment on their Twitter feeds.

ZERO: Smith selected Syracuse over offers from Buffalo, Kent State, LIU Post, Maine, UMass, Stony Brook and Temple. He also drew interest from Penn State and had unofficially visited its campus.

Gateway's Courtney Jackson ready for increased leadership role at Syracuse (triblive.com; Love)

Courtney Jackson broke out on the field for the Syracuse football team in 2021.

The Gateway graduate and redshirt freshman receiver and kick returner appeared in all 12 games with eight starts for the Orange and led the team in receptions (37) and yards (389).

He caught three touchdowns and returned a kick for a score.

“I finally got a chance to show what I could do in a big role for the team on the field and be a leader off the field,” said Jackson, who will begin his third on-field season with Syracuse in August.

Now, he hopes to increase his impact for a team hoping to improve on last year’s 5-7 overall mark and 2-6 record in Atlantic Coast Conference play.

“I tasted success last year, and now I want more,” Jackson said.

“That was big motivation for me to keep working hard and not skip a beat. Not only have I wanted to maintain, but I’ve also wanted to gain. I was really happy with spring workouts. They really showed the progress I made since the end of the season. Now, the next couple of weeks is about staying on track to have a good camp and a good season.”

Jackson understands his role on the team has changed and he must step it up on and off the field.

“I am more of that leader and that older-type guy in the room,” Jackson said.

“It’s not only just about me getting better, but also how I can help everyone else get better as a team. We’re always striving to bring our offense together and click as one.”

Jackson, in the midst of his preparation for the upcoming season, took time last week to instruct and mentor at a Nike Football Skills Camp on June 20-21, at Gateway High School.

He said he appreciated the opportunity to give back.

“I’ve been in the shoes of these young kids, and I looked up to guys who were in the position I am now,” Jackson said.

“I want to be a positive influence and role model for these kids that if they work hard and dedicate themselves, they, too, can be successful and do whatever they want to do.”

The camp was sandwiched between on-campus workouts with Jackson’s Orange teammates. Preseason camp for Syracuse begins in early August and leads up to the opener against ACC foe Louisville in the Carrier Dome on Sept. 3.

“I am just taking it day by day and trying to be that much better than the day before,” he said. “It’s a long season, and it’s nothing you want to rush. But it will get here quickly.”

The 2022 schedule for the Orange also features a return to Heinz Field against Pitt on Nov. 5.

Syracuse University Manley Athletics Complex Football Facilities

http://doktermantul.com/ (doktermantul.com)

When construction for the $2 million state of the art facility began in the early 1960's it was intended to be used primarily as an indoor practice facility for the football program. upon completion, manley was used as an indoor practice facility for many of the orange's intercollegiate athletic teams, as a competition site for some of those.

The additions and renovations at Manley Athletics Complex included renovations to the syracuse university football team dining room and adjacent player lounge. the renovations to the existing spaces removed interior walls and opened up the lounge to the dining room. Syracuse, n.y. — syracuse university is seeking approval to transform its athletics facilities, including construction on a new, 51,000 square foot complex for use by the football team.

As part of Syracuse athletics' fundraising initiative, Manley Field House, which has been the hub of activity and the center of student athlete life for syracuse university's athletics for nearly 60 years, will be, over time, transformed into the john a. lally athletics complex, a state of the art academic and athletics village that will.

According to Syracuse , the plan is part of the university’s $150 million fundraising effort to remake manley field house, which is slated to be renamed the john a. lally athletics complex after the donor kickstarted the project with a $25 million donation. the project currently has no timeline for the new football facilities, which are.

Which teams should be Clemson football's permanent ACC rivals? Here's what AD Graham Neff said (greenvilleonline.com; Keepfer)

As the Atlantic Coast Conference appears poised to adopt a new scheduling model for football, the biggest question looming for Clemson fans is simple: Who will be the Tigers’ three permanent annual rivals?

The short answer? We don’t know, and may not know until the league’s 2023 schedule is announced in January.

“There are a lot of moving parts, not only with Clemson, but with other teams and other rivalries,” Clemson athletics director Graham Neff told The Greenville News. “Do they need to play, do they not need to play? What about regional geography and travel?

“It truly has not been set yet, but there are variations of that and there’s trying to be a decision from the league and the athletic directors on what fits best for the league. So there probably are some variations on what that could look like for a lot of schools, Clemson included.”

In the meantime, we can muster a few educated guesses.

The leader in the clubhouse for the ACC is a 3-5-5 scheduling model, which would include three permanent opponents and a rotating slate of home-and-home games with five other opponents.

Here are the leading candidates to be the Tigers’ annual rivals:

Florida State

This one’s a no-brainer. Save for the 2020 COVID-year cancellation, Clemson and Florida State have played every season since the Seminoles joined the league in 1992, producing many memorable games, including the “Bowden Bowl” showdowns between father Bobby and son Tommy from 1997 to 2005.

Clemson and Florida State have been the ACC’s preeminent programs for the past 30 years and have split their past 22 meetings, with those games being decided by an average margin of 1.2 points.

“Certainly Florida State and Clemson is a prominent matchup that makes a lot of sense,” Neff said.

NC State

There can’t be an end to the “Textile Bowl,” can there? The Wolfpack’s recent resurgence and last season’s two-overtime win against the Tigers in Raleigh has added more intrigue to an age-old rivalry that dates to 1899.

Clemson and N.C. State have played 89 times since, which is the most games the Tigers have played against any ACC opponent. This season’s game at Clemson should have major implications, both on a regional and national level.

Georgia Tech

The Yellow Jackets are another longtime rival that seems a natural fit as a permanent opponent. Prior to Clemson’s current seven-game winning streak in the series, the teams split their 32 regular-season meetings since the Yellow Jackets joined the ACC in football in 1983.

There have been plenty of memorable games between the teams, including a stretch of six consecutive games decided by exactly three points between 1996 and 2001.

“Those (N.C. State and Georgia Tech) make a lot of sense and I don’t want to be coy, but by no means are those set or determined,” Neff said. “And there could be arguments made for other matchups, too, in the Carolinas or Louisville.

Miami football commit Jaden Rashada second ranked 2023 ACC quarterback (caneswarning.com; Rubenstein)

The commitment from four-star prospect Jaden Rashada gave the Miami football program the second-highest-rated ACC quarterback in the Class of 2023. Clemson commit Christopher Vizzina is the only 2023 QB commit who is committed to an ACC school that is higher ranked than Rashada. Vizzina is the sixth-ranked 2023 QB.

Vizzina is the 33rd ranked player in the Class of 2023 and Rashada is 45th. The 247 Sports ratings grade Vizzina at 0.9840 and Rashada at .9796. Rashada is the highest-rated QB to commit to Miami since Kyle Wright in 2003. Miami has an elite QB room through at least 2025 with the commit from Rashada.

Tyler Van Dyke who signed with the Miami football program in 2020, 2021 signee Jake Garcia and 2022 signee Jacurri Brown were all top 20 QBs in their classes. All but Brown were top 10 at their positions in their classes. Rashada projects as an eventual second-round pick according to his 247 Sports scouting report.

Rashada is the second QB to commit to Miami this week. Three-star QB Emory Williams committed to Miami on Monday. Garcia was the previous highest-ranked Miami QB since Wright. Garcia was the top-ranked ACC QB in the Class of 2021. Van Dyke was the third-highest ranked ACC QB in the Class of 2020.

There’s tension between Clay and nearby towns over property taxes: Inside CNY’s tangled assessments (PS; $; Knauss)

Brian Gilbert paid $195,900 for his three-bedroom ranch in the town of Salina. In the neighboring town of Clay, a couple bought a similar-sized house for nearly the same price.

Both houses are in the Liverpool school district. Both pay taxes to Onondaga County. And on the open market, the two houses have similar value.

But Gilbert pays $2,000 a year more in school and county taxes than the couple in Clay.

That disparity points to a nasty quirk in the property tax system that is raising concerns as home prices soar.

Gilbert’s property assessment went up sharply after he bought his house – and his tax bill followed – because Salina raises assessments to match market prices. Clay does not.

In some cases, that can force Salina homeowners to pay more than their fair portion for services they share with neighbors in Clay.

Property taxes should be based solely on the value of your house compared with others, not influenced by the conflicting assessment strategies of neighboring towns.

It’s another example of the chaotic and confusing mix of strategies that New York allows local authorities to use to assess property for taxation. Towns can choose their own approach. It’s all legal.

Fearing that their residents are paying more than their fair share, Salina officials this year asked state legislators to change the law to require all towns to follow the same playbook and assess properties at full value.
