Welcome to World Peace Day!

International Day of Peace—established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1981 and first observed in 1982—is "devoted to commemorating and strengthening the ideals of peace both within and among all nations and peoples." It was originally held on the third Tuesday of September, which is the opening day of the regular session of the General Assembly. In 2001, a resolution adopted by the General Assembly designated the International Day of Peace to be a "day of global ceasefire and non-violence." It also changed the date of the holiday to September 21.

Brennan Armstrong is just one weapon in the Cavaliers’ offensive arsenal (Virginia scouting report) (PS; $; Leiker)

First-year Virginia coach Tony Elliott is focused on Friday’s game rather than outside chatter about one of the biggest ACC storylines of the season, and he’s encouraging his players to do the same.

“To be honest with you, I haven’t been following the storyline. I don’t know what the storyline is,” Elliott said at his Tuesday press conference. “The only challenge that I had to my guys because they do have relationships with those individuals is let’s not make it bigger than what it needs to be. It’s all about the game.”

Syracuse football hosts Virginia at 7 p.m. Friday in the JMA Wireless Dome. It marks a reunion for SU offensive coordinator Robert Anae and quarterbacks coach Jason Beck with their UVA protégé Brennan Armstrong, as well as a number of other players.

Behind the Rails Season 2, Episode 3: Syracuse Recap (hammerandrails.com; podcast; Miller)

Kory says it best in the beginning of this week’s wrap-up edition of the Behind the Rails podcast: That game pissed us off. Saturday was a frustrating loss at Syracuse that Purdue gave away in pretty much every sense of the word. The Boilers basically handed over 21 points on turnovers and dumb penalties, and did itself no favors with other big mistakes. Kory and Travis talk about all this, including:
  • Kory stresses once again we need to run the ball.
  • Devin Mockobee gets talked up after his impressive touchdown run, especially with the burst he has shown.
  • We try to look for another receiver to step up along with Charlie Jones.
  • What happened to the defense late?
  • How Kory was glad someone who didn’t know what to do with the ball got it during the blocked extra point run back.

Has Syracuse Found its WR1? – Orange Fizz – Daily Syracuse Recruiting News & Team Coverage (orangefizz.net; Eads)

Syracuse football continues to surprise after stealing a win from Purdue in the waning stages of a 32-29 contest on Saturday. SU already owns two wins over power five teams heading into week four and has a chance at one more against Virginia. The Orange are in pole position to begin their season 5-0, which not many thought they had the capability to do. However, if Syracuse wants to keep this hot start rolling, it needs to identify its go-to guy in the passing game. Dino Babers and Company may have found who that is this past weekend.

Unless you’ve been slumbering under a rock for the past couple days, the name Oronde Gadsden should be floating around your house. The sophomore receiver had a breakout game against Purdue. The NFL legacy shattered his career numbers with a team high six catches for 112 yards, and a pair of touchdowns including the game-winner. For perspective, the Florida native had recorded a combined six receptions totaling 81 yards and a score between SU’s opening two games of the year. Last season, the American Heritage product tallied just a pair of snags for two dozen yards.

Gadsden has proven that he can be a consistent contributor for this offense. The 6’5, 216 pound pass catcher is a precise route runner, can find open space anywhere on the field, and will make plays when given the chance. The Fort Lauderdale native has caught at least three passes in each game this season and really showcased his abilities against a very talented and experienced Purdue secondary.

Gadsden has to be the number one option going forward because Syracuse’s other targets have failed to show up on a week-to-week basis. DeVaughn Cooper was leading all wideouts and receptions and yards heading into Saturday. The seventh year senior reeled in one pass for eleven yards. Last season’s top receiver, Courtney Jackson, had a nice kick return to setup SU’s game-winning drive. However, the Pennsylvania native really hasn’t show much growth after a strong 2021 season. Isaiah Jones played well and scored his first career touchdown but he’s done for the year. Then there’s Damien Alford but he’s caught one pass this season.

Former Syracuse football star Dwight Freeney on Pro Football Hall of Fame ballot (newyorkupstate.com; AP)

Former Syracuse University star Dwight Freeney is one of nine first-year eligible players among the 129 Modern Era nominees for the 2023 class of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

The other first-year eligibles are six-time All-Pro offensive lineman Joe Thomas, shutdown cornerback Darrelle Revis, running back Chris Johnson, offensive lineman Jahri Evans, linebackers NaVorro Bowman and James Harrison; defensive back Kam Chancellor and punter Shane Lechler.

The nine new candidates combined for 52 Pro Bowl berths, 30 first-team All-Pro selections, with five of the nine winning Super Bowls and five making an all-decade team. Johnson also won an Offensive Player of the Year award in 2009 and Harrison was picked as top defensive player in 2008.

Freeney played for Syracuse from 1998-2001. He had 34 career sacks at SU — leading the nation with a school-record 17.5 in his senior year, when he was a consensus All-American.

Freeney spent most of his 16-year professional career in Indianapolis where his speed off the edge and dominant spin move led to 125.5 career sacks. He anchored a defense that complemented a high-powered offense led by Peyton Manning and helped the Colts win the Super Bowl following the 2006 season.

There are two other former Syracuse players among the 129 nominees: quarterback Donovan McNabb and kicker Gary Anderson.

Thomas was one of the top tackles in the league over a durable 11-year career that saw him selected first-team All-Pro six times and second team two other times. He had a streak of 10,363 consecutive plays while playing for the Browns his entire career.

Coming Off a Big Win Against Purdue, Syracuse Gets Ready to Host Virginia on Friday Night (bc snn.com; Syracuse Orange Sports Information Wire)

The eyes of the college football world will be on Syracuse on Friday night when it hosts ACC foe Virginia at 7 p.m. in the JMA Wireless Dome. The Orange are coming off a thrilling come-from-behind victory against Purdue and will look to go 3-0 to start the season for the first time since 2018.

'Cuse and UVA get the national television spotlight, and will be the only game featuring power five opponents in action on the evening. For Orange fans, it's an opportunity to show off the big game environment that makes the Loud House earn its name.

"First of all, I thought that the fans were really good on Saturday," Babers said of the Purdue crowd. "Saturday at 12, I don't know if they just woke up or they didn't go to sleep, but I was more than satisfied with the noise they pumped in. Now this Friday night at 7 o'clock – we need to bring it. I mean the whole country needs to see exactly what it is like to go to school here and be a part of what's going on in the Dome and in the Loud House."

The Orange are no strangers to playing under the lights on national television on Friday nights. Syracuse played on Friday night twice last season and is 7-4 on Fridays under the direction of head coach Dino Babers. The wins include an upset of No. 2 Clemson in 2017 and a game-winning field goal in the closing seconds against Liberty in 2021. Babers appreciates the atmosphere Orange Nation has helped create in the Loud House in the first two games and hopes to see more of them on Friday night.

When asked if the fans have played a part in the two home victories this season, Babers simply had this to say:

"I know it's had a big impact and I want it to be a bigger impact. We need more."

Virginia enters the game with a 2-1 record and will start conference play against the Orange. Head coach Tony Elliott is in his first season at the helm of the UVA program, but he is very familiar with Syracuse as he served on the coaching staff at Clemson from 2011-21.

The Orange defense will once again face one of the top quarterbacks in the country in Brennan Armstrong. He was a semifinalist for the Maxwell and Davey O'Brien Awards last season when he threw for 4,449 yards and 31 touchdowns. The senior became Virginia's all-time leader in passing yards last week against Old Dominion.

"We have a very serious opponent this week," Babers said. "Coach Elliot is in his first season with the University of Virginia. We know what that team did last year and obviously they have very, very good personal and an outstanding quarterback in Brennan Armstrong. And once again, just like [Louisville's] Malik [Cunningham], just like the young man from Purdue [Aidan O'Connell], we are playing some of the top quarterbacks in the country and we expect it to be a close game again.

"Tony Elliot is good. He has been on championship teams. He's a fabulous coach. I got to meet him, he's a fine young man and I am sure he is ready for one of those wins to happen. They had the two nice wins – close wins that teach teams how to win. They had the performance that they didn't like a little bit out there in Champaign, but they're coming in here and he's been in this place, and he's been in this locker room plenty of times. So, he is very familiar with us. Hopefully it will be one of those situations when we're happy when it's all said and done."

The community is still buzzing about last Saturday's victory against Purdue that featured a combined 42 points in the fourth quarter. Syracuse, which didn't lead until that fateful fourth quarter, sealed the victory on Garrett Shrader's 25-yard touchdown pass to Oronde Gadsden II with seven seconds on the clock. While the fans may be looking ahead, Babers know his players are focused on the task at hand on Friday.

Cavaliers understand winning in the Dome at Syracuse will be a challenge (wsls.com; Appicello)

The Cavaliers of Tony Elliott will open ACC play this week on the road at undefeated Syracuse.

UVA is coming off what can only be described as a close call against ODU. But they got it done on the last-second field goal.

Now on a short week, they’ll go to a unique place on Friday night.

UVA will take on Syracuse in the dome formerly known as the Carrier Dome, now the JMA Wireless Dome. Regardless of what it is called, everybody knows taking on the Orange at their place is not routine.

”Definitely they create a home field advantage they do a great job of regardless of the size of the crowd they find a way to make it loud in there the guys in my experience always play tough at home and you gotta go in them and you gotta take it from them,” coach Elliott said.

“It’s gonna be a fun game. I know that the fans down there they’re gonna be electric they’re gonna be looking too to quiet us down but we just gotta play through it not worry about that and just do what we do,” Cavaliers receiver Dontayvion Wicks said.

The Orange come in 3-0 with wins over Louisville, Connecticut, and a thriller against Purdue..where they got a game-winning 25 yd touchdown pass with 7 seconds left for the win. Virginia at Syracuse is set for 7 p.m. Friday night.

Virginia football releases depth chart before Syracuse (streakingthelawn.com; Carey)

Ahead of Friday’s game against the Syracuse Orange, the Virginia Cavaliers have released their full depth chart with just a few changes but a couple noteworthy developments.

Virginia Media Relations

Starting with the offensive side of the ball, there are changes from last week’s depth chart but are simply reflective of UVA’s actual starters versus ODU sans injury issues. The starting offensive line seems to be set fairly in stone now with Logan Taylor at left tackle, Derek Devine at left guard, Ty Furnish at center, John Paul Flores at right guard, and Jonathan Leech at right tackle.

Granted, Furnish did not play the whole game against the Monarchs as backup Jestus Johnson did take 17 snaps in the second quarter before Furnish was back in the second half. Leech has struggled particularly in pass blocking, so there is the potential that McKale Boley could replace him if those issues persist. But, for now, these five seem to be Garrett Tujague’s starting group for now.

Everything else on offense is the same. Somewhat surprisingly, Mike Hollins is still listed as the second back behind Perris Jones. I’d expect Xavier Brown to be the second back in the actual game against ‘Cuse this week considering how well he performed against ODU and Hollins’ fumble against the Monarchs which meant he barely saw the field in the second half for the ‘Hoos.

Defensively there are no listed changes. After filling in for Jack Camper as the backup BANDIT, D’Sean Perry will likely move back to playing linebacker this week.

Virginia Visits Syracuse for ACC Opener on Friday (virginiasports.com)

Virginia (2-1, 0-0 ACC) will take on Syracuse (3-0, 1-0 ACC) in its ACC opener at JMA Wireless Dome on Friday (Sept. 23). The contest will air live on ESPN and the Virginia Sports Radio Network at 7 p.m.

GAME COVERAGE: In addition to the linear ESPN broadcast, the contest will stream live on ESPN.com and the ESPN app. The pregame radio show on the Virginia Sports Radio Network will begin at 6 p.m. Fans can listen to the game on the Virginia Sports App, the TuneIn App and any one of the VSRN affiliates across the commonwealth. For a list of expanded coverage visit: virginiasports.com/radio.

INSIDE FRIDAY’S MATCHUP

  • Virginia will visit Syracuse for the first time since 2005 and the first with both schools members of the Atlantic Coast Conference. The only meeting between the two schools as ACC foes came in 2015 in Charlottesville, a 44-38 UVA victory in a triple-overtime thriller at Scott Stadium.
  • UVA is seeking their third win of the season, it would be the first time since 2019 that the Cavaliers have won at least three of the first four games and the fourth time in the last six years Virginia has posted three wins in the first four games.
  • The Cavaliers will play their first night game of the season after playing seven in 2021. UVA is 68-58-1 all-time in night games and hold a 25-35 mark in night games on the road.
  • Friday night serves as Virginia’s ACC opener. The Cavaliers have won five of their last six ACC openers and in their 69th season in the league are 28-40 in their first ACC games of the year.
  • The Virginia defense has forced five turnovers in its first three games, including four fumbles, tied for the seventh-most in the country. On the flip side, Syracuse is one of five teams in the country without a turnover this season.
TOP STORYLINES
  • Brennan Armstrong owns nearly every quarterback record at UVA and is in striking distance of two more. He needs four touchdowns to break Matt Schaub’s career mark of 58 and one more 200-yard passing performance will make him UVA’s all-time leader in 200-yard passing games, a record Armstrong currently shares with Schaub.
  • Armstrong (710 yards) and Syracuse quarterback Garrett Schrader (704) rank fourth and fifth, respectively in the ACC in passing yards. The duo are among five ACC signal callers in the league with over 700 yards through three games.

Syracuse football: Dino Babers’ Virginia week preview (TNIAAM; Ostrowski)

The Syracuse Orange are 3-0 after scraping out a win against Purdue, but there’s not much time to celebrate. Next on the SU football calendar is the only Friday game of the season. It’ll be against the old home of Robert Anae and Jason Beck, the instruments of this fine-tuned Orange offense. Here’s what Head Coach Dino Babers had to say ahead of the matchup with the Virginia Cavaliers.

Injury Report

It’s never easy to see someone go down for the rest of the season. We’ve already seen it happen twice this year with Chris Elmore and Stefon Thompson. Yesterday, Babers announced that a third player is likely shut down: WR Isaiah Jones. Jones had worked his way into the rotation despite missing some of training camp and had his first Syracuse touchdown Saturday - the same play that completely shifted the tempo of the game. He came out clutching his arm after drawing a pass-interference call. It appears to be the same injury as in camp.

There were a handful of players including Garrett Shrader that apparently dealt with illnesses last week (Shrader was not available for the media last Tuesday), but Babers declined to comment on that. He also said that Sean Tucker is not dealing with an injury and attributed his slow day to the team’s poor 3rd down conversion rate (3 of 13) and constant need to pass. Finally, Coach hopes that Trebor Pena will return soon but did not provide a timetable.

Insider Knowledge

With Anae and Beck helping the Orange prepare to face their old employer, Babers stressed that reunions will have to wait until the end of the game. Until then, it’s business as usual.

Syracuse football: Week 3 grades vs Purdue (TNIAAM; De Guzman)

Boy it wasn’t pretty, but somehow Syracuse got it done.

A slow start for the Syracuse Orange eventually turned into a nail-biting win as ‘Cuse toppled the Purdue Boilermakers 32-29 at the JMA Wireless Dome this past weekend. The Orange are 3-0 and preseason bowl hopes have gone from optimistic to likely.

But that doesn’t mean Syracuse played the cleanest game. Let’s break out the report card:

Purdue v Syracuse
Photo by Bryan M. Bennett/Getty Images

Quarterbacks: B-

The first two and a half quarters from Garrett Shrader featured a sharp regression to the mean. Overthrows and underthrows ruined some good opportunities for the Orange to gain momentum. Whether it was a lack of receiver talent or a slow read of progressions, Shrader didn’t get rid of the ball quickly in the first half.

But two things keep this grade from fully tanking. First, Shrader did an excellent job throughout the game extending drives with his legs. The heavy focus from the Purdue defense to stop Sean Tucker played perfectly into Shrader’s mobility. Secondly, the last one and a half quarters from Shrader featured great improvement from the first part of the game. The Orange adjusted to Purdue’s man-to-man, allowing Shrader to get rid of the ball quicker. He started hitting passes, including what might be the pass of the season on the corner route to Oronde Gadsden II for the game-winning score.

Syracuse football vs. Virginia prediction and odds for week 4 college football (itlh; Adler)

Is anyone else’s heart still beating fast after that last-second win by Syracuse football this past Saturday afternoon against Big Ten Conference member Purdue on the Hill? I know mine is.

The Orange and the Boilermakers combined for a whopping 42 points in a thrilling fourth quarter, with ‘Cuse quarterback Garrett Shrader connecting with wide receiver/tight end Oronde Gadsden II for a 25-yard touchdown with just seven seconds remaining.

That score propelled Syracuse football (3-0) to a 32-29 triumph over Purdue (1-2), and it gave the Orange a really strong home win versus a formidable Power 5 opponent. Now, the ‘Cuse was far from perfect in this non-conference clash, as the defense allowed more than 400 yards through the air.

All-American running back Sean Tucker also didn’t have a performance against the Boilermakers that we’re accustomed to these days. However, the Orange made some big plays when it mattered the most, including a 17-yard pick-six from defensive lineman Caleb Okechukwu.

Looking ahead, Syracuse football clearly has a lot of positive momentum, as the ‘Cuse is 3-0 for the first time since 2018, when the Orange went 10-3 overall, won a bowl game, and finished at No. 15 in the national rankings.

Up next for Syracuse football is a Friday night collision with fellow Atlantic Coast Conference squad Virginia. The ‘Cuse already owns one ACC conquest after stomping Louisville in week one.

If Syracuse football can knock off the Cavaliers (2-1) from the JMA Wireless Dome, that will inch the Orange one step closer toward reaching at least a half-dozen victories in the 2022 stanza and becoming bowl eligible this fall.

ACC Power Ranking Week 3 (fromtherumbleseat.com; Cramer)

Week 3 had a slate of good Power 5 matchups to test the conference before the bulk of the teams enters conference play next week. Most of the results were positive for the conference with only two losses this week. One which was respectable with Miami coming up short of Texas A&M and the other...well, I believe everyone here has been thoroughly briefed on the other loss.

FSU and Louisville were the lone ACC matchup that turned out to be quite the game as Louisville is rebounding from their rough start against Syracuse despite the loss to FSU. Still, The Cards are in the hole with two losses in conference play. Syracuse and NC State won some bragging rights over the Big Ten and Big 12 with Syracuse notching a win over Purdue and NC State taking down Texas Tech. The rest of the conference cleaned up nicely with G5 or FCS opponents, though Virginia almost became the second ACC victim to Old Dominion this year. The ACC now heads into the quarter point of the season with 8 undefeated teams!

Next week will have a few more ACC games with some intriguing matchups, including a matchup of two former bottom feeders with FIRST-YEAR HEAD COACHES in Duke and Kansas who are looking to become players in their respective conferences. They both already have 3 wins into their seasons in case you are keeping count.

Power Rankings

  1. Florida State - The Seminoles claim the top spot after a close win over Louisville on the road. It hasn’t been pretty along the way but FSU has the best win over LSU in a “neutral” site in New Orleans. The offense is humming along but if the defense can shore up a few holes they will be hard to beat. Boston College will provide that opportunity as a stretch of Wake, NC State and Clemson await after.
  2. Wake Forest - The Demon Deacons haven’t played murderer’s row but they have still looked great on offense. Liberty nearly got them this past week but Wake’s defense prevented a two-point conversion as Liberty tried for the win late in the 4th quarter. Clemson visits next and then they travel to FSU after. We will know where this team truly stands in a couple of weeks.
  3. North Carolina State - It was never in doubt this week as NC State got up early on Texas Tech with a final of 27-14. Except the offense wasn’t the key to this game as they only had 270 yards. Instead, 4 interceptions by the defense, one of which was returned for a TD, stifled Texas Tech from finding paydirt. They have one more tune-up against UConn this week before taking on Clemson to sort out the top.
  4. Clemson - It’s becoming a habit for The Tigers to get off to a slow start this year. The offense is sluggish and relies heavily on RB Shipley to get things going. It was the same this week before pulling away from LA Tech 48-20. The defense once again dominated only allowing 12 yards rushing and creating 4 turnovers. Wake Forest is up next and the offense will need to come out fast or Wake could take advantage.
  5. Pittsburgh - Pitt had to rely on backup QB Yarnell this week and the offense struggled early. The first touchdown was a pick-six by Marquise Williams, the offense wouldn’t get on the board until the last minute of the third quarter. Fortunately for Pitt, their schedule is full of struggling teams, and FCS Rhode Island is due up.
  6. Miami - The Hurricanes had looked great so far but the offense couldn’t find the endzone against Texas A&M. There were some blown opportunities on special teams as well with two missed field goals and not being able to recover a muffed punt by Texas A&M on the goal line. The defense did its best to stay in the game but the Aggies did enough to pull away. Miami will head back home to welcome Middle Tennessee next week.
  7. Duke - Duke has been the surprise of the conference so far and will look to keep it up against...undefeated Kansas?!?!?! next week. This past week though Duke took care of NC A&T mostly on the ground running for 222 yards and four touchdowns.
  8. Syracuse - Syracuse and Purdue were in a snooze fest through most of the game until they decided to score 44 points combined in the 4th quarter. Purdue appeared to have this game wrapped up but with 7 seconds left QB Shrader tossed up a pass into the endzone where WR Gadsden would haul it in for the walk-off win. Virginia is due next and the Orange have a chance to go up 2-0 in conference play.

ACC Power Rankings: I’m Still Standing (shakinthesouthland.com; Goldin)

Before we get going, I need to explain myself. I didn’t post power rankings last week. This year we’re going to do these rankings every other week. The weekly rankings can sometimes be a bit overkill, and quite frankly, no one needs to muse on ACC football that much. Now, there may be exceptions. I might do rankings in back-to-back weeks if we get a really crazy weekend that causes mass rankings chaos. But otherwise, expect these rankings every other week, and of course, free of Notre Dame.

#1 Clemson (3-0, 1-0) Previous ranking: #1, Next Game: 9/24 @ Wake Forest, 12:00 PM, ABC.

It wasn’t always pretty, but Clemson is 3-0 and once again has a game that was closer than the final score showed. The good thing is that DJ and Will Shipley looked very good. DJ coming off the bench cold and throwing a dime to Antonio Williams is very comforting because I was worried that after sitting for a while, he might get out of rhythm. This is much closer to the DJ we expected when he committed, and he looks more and more like the guy from the 2020 BC and Notre Dame games. The issues seem to be a lack of consistent targets - Joseph Ngata shows flashes of brilliance but still makes bad drops. Beaux Collins looks solid, and Antonio Williams is probably the best WR at the moment. I was excited to see Adam Randall in action. Also, Drew Swinney broke some DB’s ankles. He’s been sneakily good, albeit in limited action.

Our defense seemed to fix the screen issues. Hopefully, we can have our starting corners healthy because that may be a key for the Wake game. Excited at the potential to see Xavier Thomas this weekend. Also, continued prayers for the Bresee family; good stuff from La Tech with writing letters and Coach Cumbie wearing an E11a Strong shirt. That’s a first-rate bunch and I will definitely be pulling for them the rest of the season.

#2 NC State (3-0) Last Ranking: #3 Next Game: 9/24 vs UConn 7:30 PM ESPN3

The Pack is 3-0 and took down Texas Tech 27-14. They will now face UConn and likely be 4-0 heading into their game at Clemson.

#3 Florida State (3-0, 1-0) Last Ranking: #5 Next Game: 9/24 vs Boston College 8:00 PM ACCN

FSU is 3-0 after almost giving the game away to Louisville. With a not-good Boston College team coming to Tallahassee, FSU might be looking at 4-0. QB Jordan Travis suffered an injury and how long he is out may determine how far the ‘Noles can go this year.

#4 Wake Forest (3-0) Last Ranking: #6 Next Game: 9/24 vs Clemson 12:00 PM ABC

Wake tried their best to give the game to Liberty, but emerged unscathed. If Clemson’s DL is fully operational this weekend, it will definitely make things hard on Sam Hartman. I still expect it to be a tough game but Wake isn’t necessarily as good as I expected.

#5 Syracuse (3-0, 1-0) Last Ranking: #7 Next Game: 9/23 vs Virginia 7:00 PM ESPN

And just like that ‘Cuse is 3-0. They had one of the more fun matchups of the weekend with a late-game win over Purdue. Now, they get to host Tony Elliott’s UVA squad who barely survived giant-killer Old Dominion.

#6 Pitt (2-1) Last ranking: #2 Next Game: 9/24 vs Rhode Island 12:00 PM ACCN

Pitt fell to a shockingly competent Tennessee team in week 2, but was able to rebound with a road win over Western Michigan. Why are ACC teams constantly playing G5 schools on the road? What’s the value there? Now they host Rhode Island.

Receiving Skills On Full Display On ACC Football Fields In Week 3 (youtube; video; ACC DN)

Having a league littered with talented wide receivers is certainly nothing new to the ACC. In recent years, football fans in the ACC have seen players like Tee Higgins, Tutu Atwell, Mike Williams, DeVante Parker, Greg Dortch, Sammy Watkins, and many others make plays on football fields all over the conference. This year appears to be delivering the goods as well as players like Johnny Wilson, Ontaria Wilson and Malik McClain from FSU along with Joseph Ngata, Ke'Shawn Williams, Oronde Gadsden II, Malik Rutherford and others are wowing fans with their ability to make jaw-dropping plays. Richmond adds five ACC teams to future football schedules (fbschedules.com)

The Richmond Spiders have added five ACC teams to their future football schedules, according to an official announcement from the school.

Richmond will travel to face the North Carolina Tar Heels in 2025 (Sept. 13), the NC State Wolfpack in 2026 (Sept. 12), the Louisville Cardinals in 2027 (Sept. 4), the Virginia Cavaliers in 2028 (Sept. 9), and the Pitt Panthers in 2029 (Sept. 22).

Games against NC State in 2026 and Virginia in 2028 were both previously reported.

The addition of those five contests gives Richmond a total of seven future contests against opponents from the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS). Richmond is scheduled to play at the Michigan State Spartans on Sept. 9, 2023 and at Virginia on Aug. 31, 2024, both of which were previously announced.

The Spiders also opened their 2022 season on the road against Virginia. The Cavaliers won that contest, 34-17, which was the 45th overall meeting between the two schools on the gridiron.

Last September, Richmond announced their finalized non-conference schedule for the 2023 and 2024 seasons. The Spiders will open the 2023 season at home against the Morgan State Bears on Sept. 2 and, after traveling to face Michigan State on Sept. 9, will host the Delaware State Hornets on Sept. 16.

ESPN: Why the 7 ACC teams are still unbeaten (RX; HM)

ESPN: Why the 7 ACC teams are still unbeaten

From ESPN's "Ranking college football's 33 unbeaten teams after three weeks" by Bill Connelly, here are his ACC-related comments:

31. Duke (3-0)
SP+ and FPI rankings: 90th and 74th
SP+ strength of schedule to date: 125th
Odds of reaching 12-0, per SP+: 0% (0.02% of 11-1, 0.2% of 10-2)
What they did in Week 3: defeated NC A&T 49-20
Why they're still unbeaten: Their passing game is sharp. The Blue Devils have scored at least 30 points in every game, and Riley Leonard is combining a 73% completion rate with an average of 15.1 yards per completion. Jalon Calhoun and Eli Pancol have combined for 19 catches and 360 yards.
Why they're ranked here: The "ain't played nobody" factor is high. Beating Temple and NC A&T doesn't stand out, and the shine of beating Northwestern was canceled out by the Wildcats' loss to Southern Illinois. Beat Kansas in Lawrence next weekend, and we'll talk.

26. Syracuse (3-0)
SP+ and FPI rankings: 49th and 34th
SP+ strength of schedule to date: 54th
Odds of reaching 12-0, per SP+: 0.02%

What they did in Week 3: defeated Purdue 32-29

Why they're still unbeaten: A magic act against Purdue. After a statement win over Louisville -- which was made a statement more by how easy it was than by whom they beat -- Dino Babers' Orange blew out UConn and pulled off a huge, late win over the Boilermakers thanks to a pick-six and two Oronde Gadsden II touchdown catches in the fourth quarter.

Why they're ranked here: They've been losing the big-play battle, and they've allowed a 0% goal-to-go touchdown rate thus far. The former seems likely to be costly at some point, and the latter is rather unsustainable. But that only explains why the Orange won't go unbeaten -- this is still a hell of a story thus far.

Old ACC HQ, Greensboro (RX; HM)

Old ACC HQ, Greensboro

It occurs to me that ACC headquarters is leaving Greensboro without many of you ever having seen the old "digs". So, I figure the least I can do is provide a couple of photos (taken by yours truly - no need to comment on my lack of photography skills!)

The first thing you may notice as you approach the old ACC headquarters is the street sign.

Steve Samuels, the chef behind KrunchBird inside Chadwick's Sports Bar & Grill. (Charlie Miller | cmiller@syracuse.com)

First Look: Celebrated chef brings another cool concept to the kitchen hidden inside an Eastwood sports bar (video) (PS; Miller)

Word spread quickly following a social media post back on July 22: The kitchen inside Chadwick’s Sports Bar & Grill in Eastwood would soon be available to lease.

That meant SuSu Kitchen was shutting down. Su Su and her husband Henry, who had served their take on Americanized Chinese food from the galley-style kitchen for the past two years, were retiring to Florida. Their business exploded last winter when this hidden gem of Central New York became not so hidden.

“This bar absolutely blew up when people read about SuSu. It was insane. There’d be people waiting an hour or more at this bar for Chinese food,” said bartender Nicole Henry. “A lot of hearts were broken when they left.”

Well, CNY, meet Steve Samuels. He and his KrunchBird sandwich are here to mend our tattered tickers.

He saw the Chadwick’s post looking for someone to invest $2,100 per month (utilities included) for a kitchen. Steve messaged Chadwick’s within the hour. Two days later, he brought some ingredients to this bar and did an onsite tasting. Two days after that, he signed the lease.

“I’ve made other people rich over the years. It’s about time I do it for myself,” he said one morning last week while prepping for the night’s bar crowd. “This is fun food. It’s not haute cuisine. Our eating habits have moved past that, other than special occasions.”
