Ten-Four-Day.jpg
Welcome to Ten-Four Day!

Happening on the fourth day of the tenth month, Ten-Four Day salutes radio operators, such as those who use citizens band radio (CB radio), who often use the code "10-4" when responding in the affirmative. When created by Motorola in 1977, at the height of CB radio use, the day's goal was to call the public's attention "to the importance of CBers and CB radio to the nation's communications capabilities." Although the day may now seem antiquated because of the rise of cellular phones, the internet, and other technologies, we still use it to celebrate the code, radio operators, and CB radios!

Ten-four (10-4) is an affirmative expression used in radio communications that translates to "message received," "you got it," or "OK." It is one of the ten-codes, which were created by Illinois State Police Communications Director Charles Hopper between 1937 and 1940. They were put out by the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials-International (APCO) to be used in radio communication between police officers. Updated and expanded a few times since their creation, they are a type of brevity code and represent common phrases.

Syracuse football: Thoughts on the first five weeks of the 2022 season (TNIAAM; Wall, De Guzman, Ostrowski & Haller)

The Syracuse Orange enter the bye week with a record of 5-0 and a top 25 ranking. It hasn’t always been easy or pretty, but all that matters is that number in the win column.

We decided to share our thoughts on the season so far and we welcome your opinion in the comments.

What’s been the biggest surprise through five games?

Christian: The emergence of Oronde Gadsden. One of the reasons for Syracuse’s lackluster offense through the last two seasons was the lack of a number one wideout. Now the Orange have that with Gadsden. Because of his position versatility and athleticism, he’s a matchup nightmare all around the field. There’s a reason why he’s one of the guys usually in motion pre-snap - so that he can take advantage of how opponents are defending.

Mike: The effectiveness of the pass-heavy offense. I came into the season hoping that the new offensive system would at least make Garrett Shrader look decent. He’s well beyond that point. And there has been a plethora of receiving options. It’s nice that Gadsden more-or-less fills the hole that’s been here since Taj Harris departed, but having this many different dependable sets of hands brings its own rewards.

Kevin: I’ll go with something different here - maximizing opportunities. Syracuse has benefited from Purdue’s late-game meltdown and overcome a four-turnover game. Luck doesn’t mean anything if you can’t make the necessary plays to turn that good fortune into a victory. It says a lot about the locker room that the Orange have been able to battle through the weirdness and come out on top.

Steve: The lack of consistency and style of play of the offensive line has to be the biggest surprise. It’s not a good surprise, but a unit that returned five starters from an improved group is one that was expected to impress on the year. It hasn’t done that, particularly the extremely veteran right side of the line.

6 recruits react to Syracuse football’s 59-0 win over Wagner - The Juice Online (the juice; Cheng)

Syracuse hosted a group of recruits during its 59-0 win over Wagner on Saturday. We caught up with some of them to get their reactions to the win.

Paul McClune: 2023 offensive lineman from Twin Valley (PA) High

The atmosphere in the Dome was amazing. It was electric even when the backups were in. I enjoyed the game very much especially watching the O-line dominate. My impression on Syracuse after the game is I understand why they are a top team in the nation and it all starts from the enthusiastic coaching staff and the culture.
Christopher Peralta: 2024 linebacker from Seton Hall (NJ) Prep

Loved the energy of the crowd and the fans. I did enjoy the game. The atmosphere just made it soo much better. Syracuse isn’t a team to play with and they are going to go hard every play.
Justin Denson: 2023 wide receiver from La Salle (RI) Academy

It was pretty electric even though it was a game they knew they were going to win. I had a pretty fun time watching how technical they were, even while they were up big. The recruiting staff was great. They showed a lot of what Syracuse has to offer. It’s not a four-year relationship. It’s 40.

Brahim Wynn Jr.: 2024 EDGE from Timber Creek (NJ) High

I enjoyed watching the game a lot. Syracuse dominated and the QB had a perfect game in my eyes. And I even got to see the South Jersey talent on Syracuse turn up with Deuce’s pick-6 and LeQuint’s touchdown.

All-Time Bad Beat Unfolds As Syracuse Football Stomps FCS Team So Badly That Bets Didn't Count (outkick.com; Weir)

Syracuse bettors were absolutely fuming on Saturday. An all-time bad beat played out in upstate New York and it only happened because the Orange were winning by too much.

FCS school Wagner traveled to Syracuse over the weekend for a “buy game.” The Seahawks entered winless and were 50-point underdogs when the betting line opened and 53-point underdogs when the betting line closed.

The Orange covered both spreads. They won 59-0, so they even had at least a touchdown to play with for both closing and opening lines.

But any bets placed on Syracuse football to beat Wagner did not count on the major sportsbooks.

Winners were not paid out. Losers did not have their money taken out of their account.

Why? Well, Syracuse was too dominant. The game, which went to halftime at 49-0, was cut short because of Wagner’s inability to keep up.

At the half, both head coaches agreed that the second half would be sped up. They decided that both the third and fourth quarters would be just 10 minutes instead of 15.

Latest news on Syracuse football recruiting (247sports.com; $; Finneral)

Syracuse football will get some well-deserved rest this week, but recruiting isn’t slowing down. Here are some of the latest developments on the Syracuse recruiting scene.

Syracuse makes some offers

Jordan Marshall, RB, Class of 2024

Jordan Marshall
is a four-star running back from Archbishop Moeller in Cincinnati, Ohio. Marshall is an excellent player who is making a statement in his junior season. Most recently, Marshall ran for 138 yards and 4 touchdowns in the first half in Moeller’s win over Elder.

Marshall has elite speed and is very difficult to track down when he gets going. He has been offered by many high-profile schools including Ohio State, Michigan, Tennessee, Auburn, Kentucky, Michigan State, Wisconsin and others.

Marcus Harrison, OT, Class of 2024

Marcus Harrison
is a junior offensive lineman at St. Francis in New York. Harrison is a prospect with a ton of potential. Harrison was in attendance for Syracuse’s victory over Wagner and picked up an offer.

Harrison is a high-upside recruit with the tools to be a great player at the next level. He stands at six-foot-eight, 305 lbs with a seven-foot wingspan. With the proper development, Harrison will be a force to be reckoned with.

Syracuse Football: So far, Orange is on glorious ride; enjoy it, ‘Cuse Nation (itlh; Adler)

In the aftermath of Syracuse football pummeling Wagner on Saturday in Central New York, I’ve read a lot of comments from ‘Cuse fans on social media as it pertains to the Orange’s 2022 season to date.

On the one hand, Syracuse football is 5-0 for the first time in 35 years. The Orange is nationally ranked in the latest Associated Press and Coaches top-25 polls (No. 22 and No. 21, respectively), which is awesome.

Additionally, as the ‘Cuse enters a much-needed bye week to rest and recharge, at present Syracuse football is one of two Atlantic Coast Conference teams, along with Clemson, that remain undefeated in the 2022 stanza.

National and ACC pundits are talking about the Orange, not as an afterthought but as a squad that should reach bowl eligibility and is one of the pleasant surprises so far in college football on a national scale.

This @CuseFootball squad is special pic.twitter.com/ScQyxS9QXX
— ACC Network (@accnetwork) October 1, 2022

But just how good is Syracuse football at this juncture in the 2022 season?

Conversely, some Orange fans are still taking a wait-and-see approach on the ‘Cuse before making any grandiose proclamations, and I totally get that.

For one, Wagner is not a good football team, and I mean no disrespect whatsoever to the FCS Seahawks (0-4). The home win over Purdue looks even better after the Boilermakers upset top-25 Minnesota over the weekend.

However, the Orange’s other three triumphs in 2022 are versus Louisville, Virginia and UConn. Again, no disrespect, but the Huskies are nothing special.

Syracuse one of 2023 WR Cam Pragano's 'top choices' following visit - The Juice Online (the juice; Cheng)

2023 wide receiver Cam Pragano visited Syracuse for its 59-0 win over Wagner, and after the game called SU one of his ‘top choices.’

“I got to see first hand how good Syracuse is and how the team is one of the top teams, not only in the ACC, but in the entire country,” Pragano said in an interview with The Juice Online. “I think the best is yet to come for Orange Nation. Syracuse is definitely one of my top choices to further my academics and athletics.”

WHAT A NIGHT! Thank you @CoachAhmadCuse @WRCoachmj @CoachNJ_Monroe @DeonMaddoxSU1 for making last night special! No place like the DOME #OrangeNation pic.twitter.com/3eVTyYPvDy
— Cam Pragano (@campragano) October 2, 2022

The Lyman (CT) Hall prospect and captain of the team is also drawing interest from Connecticut. He got to take in the Syracuse facilities, and met with the players and staff.

The camaraderie from the fans, to the players, and to the coaches impressed Pragano.

“The SU staff was top notch,” he said. “What I thought was so awesome was everyone I met on Saturday was 100 percent committed to Syracuse and that is contagious. After the game, the coaches were so down to earth and I immediately felt like I was part of the Syracuse family. It’s easy to see why this team is undefeated.”

He had the same feeling toward the SU community.

“Game day was awesome,” Pragano said. “The electricity not only inside the Dome but all around, it was one of the best I’ve ever been around. I can definitely get use to it.”

Syracuse Football: Orange packs quite a one-two punch in rushing attack (itlh; Adler)

I don’t want to overstate things too much, because I recognize that Syracuse football played a clearly outmatched foe on Saturday in Central New York.

But with how the Orange’s ground game had been performing over the past two games, I did find it encouraging how the ‘Cuse rushing attacked fared when Syracuse football (5-0) destroyed Wagner, 59-0, in week five.

After the Orange’s two-point win over Virginia at home in week four, I opined that I felt the ‘Cuse running game, and the squad’s offensive line, needed to spruce up their play as Syracuse football prepares for a daunting seven-game stretch following an upcoming bye week.

To reiterate, the FCS Seahawks (0-4) are struggling on the field in 2022, and they have in other recent stanzas, so what the Orange did on the ground versus Wagner isn’t a huge barometer of what could transpire in the near future.

Nonetheless, the ‘Cuse piling up nearly 400 rushing yards against the Seahawks is still an encouraging sign to me.

Syracuse football did a lot of positive things on the ground in handling Wagner.

In reaching 5-0 to start a season for the first time since 1987, Syracuse football didn’t own a turnover or have to punt versus the Seahawks, although the Orange desperately needs to clean up the number of penalties that it continues to commit.

On the ground, All-American running back Sean Tucker, who had been stymied a bit in his rushing performances over the last two affairs, went full beast mode against Wagner.

He amassed 232 rushing yards and scored three touchdowns on the ground. Why Tucker was in the game to start the second half, with Syracuse football ahead 49-0, is ridiculous to me, but in any event, SU Athletics says that he now stands at No. 7 all-time in career rushing yards for the Orange.

Syracuse football: What’s college football saying about the Orange after week 5? (TNIAAM; Wall)

Each week, we’ll take a look at what other college football media sites are saying about the Syracuse Orange. It is a lot more enjoyable to put these together for an undefeated team and ranked team.

AP and Coaches Poll

Syracuse is ranked 22nd in the AP poll and up four spots to 21st in the Coaches Poll this week. It’s the first time Syracuse has been in the AP poll since 2019.

ESPN

In this week’s SP+ rankings Syracuse drops nine to the 58th spot with the offense 68th while the defense ranks 51st. The Orange are ranked between Coastal Carolina and Memphis.

The Football Power Index has Syracuse up five to 35th between Miami and Texas A&M. The FPI continues to predict that the Orange will reach 8 wins with an expected bowl eligibility of 99.5% now.

Syracuse.com

The Orange moves up two to 4th in the weekly ACC rankings in between Wake Forest and Florida State.

Wagner got a nice game check to come to Central New York, but here’s hoping the restructured NCAA governance model puts an end to these FBS-FCS sacrificial matchups in the future.
The idea that these games should be moved to become spring games or even exhibition games in the pre-season would seem to make sense.

CBS Sports

In the CBS Sports power rankings Syracuse is up six spots this week and now sits 22nd between Mississippi State and LSU.

The Athletic

The Orange move up six spots again this week to 23rd in The Athletic’s Top 131 Power Rankings placing them in between this week. which places them between Baylor and Illinois.

Syracuse’s Unnecessary Risk Against Wagner – Orange Fizz – Daily Syracuse Recruiting News & Team Coverage (orangefizz.net; Simone)

Syracuse beat Wagner 59-0 in what can only loosely be called a football game Saturday. The Seahawks went in not having won a game in three calendar years, and it showed, converting only four first downs and gaining 50 yards of total offense. It was such a mismatch that the two teams agreed to play 10 minute quarters in the second half, college football’s version of the mercy rule.

A game that lopsided seems like the perfect time to get the starters out of the game early. That serves two purposes: not risking their health and giving younger guys a chance to get game experience, albeit against a team who didn’t belong on the same field.

The Orange didn’t do that with their starting offense, leaving Garrett Shrader, Sean Tucker, Matthew Bergeron and company out there into the second half. It almost burned them. Tucker went down on his first and only carry of the third quarter, staying down for a while before jogging off the field. The running back ended up being fine, but it’s the third time he’s gone down already this year.

Bergeron was in the game despite having an injury scare of his own in the first half. The all-ACC left tackle experienced lower leg discomfort, and still played into the third quarter.

After the game, Dino Babers said leaving the ones out there for the first drive of the third quarter is standard practice to go through the motions of halftime adjustments. However, Shrader and Tucker said the motivation was to go for records. The tailback was 25 yards shy of SU’s single game rushing high.

After the sting of Clemson loss, NC State football out to prove something vs Florida State (fayobserver.com; Thompson)

There was still lingering disappointment in Dave Doeren's voice as NC State's football coach recapped the weekend's loss to Clemson.

The No. 5 Tigers (5-0, 3-0 ACC) were clearly the better team during Saturday's 30-20 win at Memorial Stadium in the Wolfpack's first top-10 game in program history, holding NC State's offense in check and turning their opponent's mistakes into key points.

The Wolfpack (4-1, 0-1) dropped from No. 10 to No. 14 in the AP rankings and USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll, but more importantly needs Clemson to lose at least two of its final five ACC games to sneak into the ACC title game.

After the loss, redshirt junior quarterback Devin Leary captured the moment by saying he was "a little bit heartbroken and a little pissed off."

"Everyone was mad, frustrated, disappointed," Doeren said Monday. "By the end of it, they were ready to move on. They'll have juice. They'll be ready to practice. Our leadership and experience on this football team will help."

NC State returns to Carter-Finley Stadium this Saturday to face Florida State (4-1, 2-1), a team also coming off its first loss of the 2022 season. Doeren is 4-5 in nine games against the Seminoles but the Wolfpack have won four of the last five, including last year's 28-14 victory in Tallahassee.

‎Locked On ACC- Daily College Football & Basketball Podcast on Apple Podcasts (apple.com; podcast; Locked on the ACC)

Clemson proved why they're on top in the ACC. The Demon Deacons bounced back to beat Florida State. Louisville is in deep trouble after losing to Boston College. You good, bad & ugly for your Atlantic Division teams with Kenton Gibbs of @Locked On Wolfpack.

ACC football power rankings: Clemson solidifies top spot, chaos reigns in ugly bottom half of conference (247sports.com; Marsdale)

In a matchup of the top-two teams in last week’s ACC power rankings, Clemson defeated NC State 30-20, sending a message as to who runs the league. D.J. Uiagalelei was once again fantastic, as the Tigers converted two NC State turnovers into 10 points which proved to be the difference maker in the top 10 matchup.

Aside from the headliner, there were a handful of ugly upsets and blowouts. Pittsburgh was shocked at home by a Georgia Tech team that made a coaching change earlier in the week, while Boston College upset Louisville at home for its first ACC win of the season.

Wake Forest won at Florida State as an underdog, bouncing back from a heartbreaking loss the previous week at home against Clemson. Virginia Tech was also blown out for the second-straight week, sending the Hokies to their lowest ranking of the season in the power rankings.

All of these results caused significant movement this week, as nearly half the season is in the books.

1. CLEMSON TIGERS (5-0, 1)

Clemson survived the teams who rank directly behind them in these power rankings in back-to-back weeks, which might be its biggest test of the season. It is hard to pick a player in the country that has silenced critics as much as Uiagalelei has this year. The former five-star recruit was once again fantastic against the Wolfpack, throwing for 209 yards and a touchdown, while leading the Tigers in rushing with 79 yards and adding another two scores. The Tigers hit the road the next two weeks, traveling to Boston College and Florida State.

2. WAKE FOREST DEMON DEACONS (4-1, 6)

The Demon Deacons made a statement in Tallahassee and jump in the power rankings as a result. After allowing 559 total yards to Clemson and 428 to Liberty, the Deacs held a potent Seminoles offense to 393 yards on the road and won 31-21, building a 28-7 lead which the Seminoles were not able to come back against. It might be hard to knock off Clemson for the ACC Atlantic, but a New Year’s Six game is absolutely in play for Dave Clawson and company.

3. NC STATE WOLFPACK (4-1, 3)

Saturday was the biggest game in recent memory for NC State, and the Wolfpack fell short. In the 30-20 defeat, the Wolfpack took a 10-6 lead with just under two minutes left in the first half. It was all Clemson from then, as the Tigers drove right down the field to score with 31 seconds remaining. Overall, Clemson scored 24 of the game’s next 27 points after NC State took the lead. Like Wake Forest, NC State may have seen its hopes for a division title go out the window, but that does not mean all is lost.

4. SYRACUSE ORANGE (5-0, 5)

Syracuse was piling on FCS member Wagner so much that Dino Babers and Seahawks coach Tom Masella agreed to play 10-minute quarters in the second half. The Orange rolled to a 59-0 victory — leading 49-0 at halftime. A blowout was largely expected, but the Orange have three of their five wins against Power Five opponents, with the other two coming against inferior teams that never gave them even the slightest bit of a scare. Babers had to at least get the Orange back to postseason play this season, but it appears he will do more than that.

5. FLORIDA STATE SEMINOLES (4-1, 3)

Florida State suffered its first loss of the season, as 11 penalties held the Seminoles back in a big way. The Demon Deacons also played a clean game, while Jordan Travis fumbled in FSU territory for the only giveaway for the Seminoles. That proved costly, as the Demon Deacons would cash it in for a touchdown five plays later. The schedule does not get any easier, as a road trip to NC State and a home showdown with Clemson happen the next two weeks.

ACC Football: Week Six Power Rankings - Sports Illustrated Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets News, Analysis and More (SIl Caudell)

There is going to be some shake-up in this week's ACC power rankings.

Clemson and NC State played in the game of the year in the ACC and the Tigers came out on top and showed that they are the clear favorite in the ACC and are ready to challenge for a playoff spot. Obviously, Clemson was number one in the power rankings heading into the weekend and will stay on top. But who is number two?

In the other big matchup in the conference this past weekend, Wake went on the road and took down Florida State and ruined their undefeated season. Florida State was dealing with injuries though and will have a chance for a bounce back next week vs NC State.

Georgia Tech has been at the bottom of the power rankings for much of the season, but the Yellow Jackets found a way to beat Pittsburgh on the road this week and get a win for interim head coach Brent Key.

So who are the biggest risers and fallers in the AllYellowJackets.com ACC power rankings?

14. Virginia (2-3, L vs Duke 38-17)- Last week: 10

Virginia is taking the place of Georgia Tech at the bottom of the rankings. The Cavaliers have looked awful in most games and lost by three touchdowns to Duke this past weekend. Is Duke an improved team in 2022? Yes. Should Virginia be losing to them by 21 points? Not at all. Quarterback Brennan Armstrong looks like a bad fit for this offense and Virginia is going to look to avoid an 0-3 start in the ACC when they face Louisville this weekend.

13. Virginia Tech (2-3, L vs North Carolina 41-10)- Last week: 11

The Hokies took a big loss this week against the ACC's top quarterback and offense. Virginia Tech never had a prayer in this game and this offense is one of the worst in the conference. It is unlikely that Virginia Tech is going to make a bowl game this year, which is a tough pill to swallow for Hokies fans.

12. Louisville (2-3, L vs Boston College 34-33)- Last week: 9

Louisville continues to be one of the most disappointing teams in the ACC. The Cardinals were two-touchdown favorites and lost to a Boston College team, who has been terrible this year. All of the attention is going to be on if (or when) head coach Scott Satterfield is let go. Bad vibes all around the Cardinals right now.

11. Boston College (2-3, W vs Louisville 34-33)- Last week: 13

Boston College pulled a surprising upset over Louisville on Saturday

Georgia Tech was not the only ACC team to pull a surprising upset on Saturday. Boston College, who had not been playing well at all this year, took down Louisville and turned in their best performance of the season. It is still going to be an uphill battle for the Eagles (they face Clemson Saturday), but this was a much-needed win for Jeff Hafley and his program.

10. Miami (2-2, Bye week)- Last week: 12

Miami was off this week after their embarrassing loss to MTSU and now, Miami is facing a huge ACC Coastal game vs North Carolina. We'll see how the Hurricanes bounce back. The move-up is courtesy of other teams losing.

9. Pittsburgh (3-2, L vs Georgia Tech 26-21)- Last week: 6

What a disastrous loss for the Pitt Panthers. This was supposed to be an easy win over a team that had just fired its coach and the Panthers laid an egg. This team is still capable of winning the ACC Coastal because of how bad the division looks, but the passing game and offense have to be better than what they showed on Saturday. They will get that chance with a struggling Virginia Tech team on Saturday.

8. Georgia Tech (2-3, W vs Pittsburgh 26-21)- Last week: 14

Georgia Tech got their first ACC win of the year against Pittsburgh on Saturday

This might seem like a big jump up for Tech, but it is hard to put them behind teams that have not beaten anyone this year. They just beat Pitt, Miami was off and just lost to MTSU, and Boston College has played an easier schedule than Tech has and has the same record.

The Yellow Jackets had just fired their head coach and it looked like the season was about to hit the point of no return. Then, interim head coach Brent Key rallied the team to get a win over previously 24th-ranked Pittsburgh. The defense forced three turnovers and the special teams were finally not a complete disaster. With Duke and Virginia coming up, the Yellow Jackets have a chance to string some wins together.

7. Duke (4-1, W vs Virginia 38-17)- Last week: 9

The Blue Devils continue to win games and dismantled Virginia on Saturday. Quarterback Riley Leonard has been a pleasant surprise all season and the Blue Devils are inching closer to a possible bowl berth. If they want to make a bowl game, they have to beat Georgia Tech this weekend.

6. North Carolina (4-1, W vs Virginia Tech 41-10)- Last week: 8

The Tar Heels have the best quarterback in the conference and the best offense and that might be good enough to win the terrible ACC Coastal division. Drake Maye was fantastic through the air and on the ground against Virginia Tech and North Carolina could take a big step towards winning the Coastal Division if they beat Miami this weekend.

5. Florida State (4-1, L vs Wake Forest 31-21)- Last week: 3

Florida State could not overcome their injuries on Saturday vs Wake Forest and lost their first game of the season. They could not stop the Demon Deacons on third down and the Florida State offense could not finish drives. The Seminoles have to get back on the mat quickly though, as a trip to NC State is waiting next week and then a home game vs Clemson.

4. Syracuse (5-0, W vs Wagner 59-0)- Last week: 4

The Orange got an easy win over Wagner and are one win away from a bowl birth. Syracuse will be off this week and then start the most difficult part of their schedule.

2022 ACC 2-Minute Drill: Week 5 (youtube; video; ACCDN)

It was an exciting weekend in the ACC filled with in-conference games. The lone out-of-conference game was Syracuse, who won and went to 5-0 for the first time in school history since 1987. There were two matchups of ranked teams squaring off. Wake Forest bounced back from a loss last week to defeat Florida State on the road. Clemson got payback for an OT loss to NC State last year by defeating the Wolfpack, 30-20. Elsewhere in the ACC, Duke and North Carolina both continued to look impressive offensively as they defeated Virginia and Virginia Tech. Get caught up with the action from this past weekend right here with the ACC 2-Minute Drill.

The Yellow Jackets forced Pitt into three turnovers and made them pay for it, turning those turnovers into 13 points. Georgia Tech wore down that Pitt defense by recording a total of 44 carries for 232 yards and a touchdown in the 26-21 upset over the Panthers.

Loser: Florida State Seminoles
Florida State had every opportunity to get their first ranked win at home in years, instead, they inflicted so many unnecessary errors on themselves late in the game.
The Seminoles finished the game with 11 penalties, including three on their final drive in an attempt to cut it to a one-score game. It was an incredibly disappointing outcome for a team many felt like finally had some serious momentum with QB Jordan Travis playing some of the best football of his college career thus far.

Hard to argue with those.

From CBS Sports' "College football Week 5 winners, losers, overreactions":

ACC Coastal is wildest division in football: The ACC Coastal has earned a reputation for mayhem. In fact, each one of the seven members has won the division at least once since 2013 with Pitt serving as the only repeat champion over that stretch. However, the final year of the ACC Coastal before divisions are eliminated could be one for the ages.
Georgia Tech shocked No. 24 Pitt -- the expected Coastal favorite -- in a 26-21 decision the same week the Yellow Jackets fired their coach Geoff Collins. Conversely, Duke and North Carolina are the only undefeated teams remaining in ACC play, other than a Miami team that has not played a conference game yet. With Georgia Tech now on the board, virtually any team can win the ACC Coastal this season. It's a fitting tribute for the division.

FSU coordinators talk Wake loss, kicking, NC State game (tomahawknation.com; Mire)

The Florida State Seminoles are coming off an upset loss at home against the No. 15 Wake Forest Demon Deacons. Looking ahead to next weekend, the team will travel to Raleigh to face the No. 14 NC State Wolfpack on the road in a matchup that could prove to be all too familiar. Coordinators Alex Atkins, Adam Fuller, and John Papuchis reflected on the team’s performance and what FSU needs to do to recover from their 21-31 defeat.

Offensive coordinator Alex Atkins

Coming off a loss, offensive coordinator Alex Atkins took some of the blame for the team's performance saying that he has to coach them better if they want to see results.

“If we are playing too reactionary then that's on me. We should be dictating, knowing what's coming, knowing how to get it and I have to eliminate that reactionary trait, you're gonna have some of it but it can’t be a lot.”

Ball security was unusual, to say the least, during the start of Saturday’s game along with penalties. Atkins reflected on that saying it was the first time this team, with all the new faces, would have to overcome those deficiencies.

“Possessions are premium because you never know how many you’re going to get in the game. You don't go into the game saying we’re gonna run 80 plays. You just try to run the best plays you can and make sure you take advantage of every possession that you get. So when you talk about the penalties, you talk about the turnovers, those eliminate possessions so it makes you press a little bit more and this group, this is the first time (this season) we’ve had to overcome that.”

When looking at NC State, Atkin’s noted the size of their defensive tackles and that he thinks getting the matchups they would like up front will be challenging.

“The first thing you see is they got size. All the defensive tackles are 290 pounds and they play with three of them on the field. That's a little unique because they always got those three D tackles right there that do a good job stopping the middle and its hard to find those double teams, to try and create those double teams.” adding that, “They also do a good job of keeping everything in front of them.”

Atkin’s full interview can be seen below:

Defensive coordinator Adam Fuller

Getting off the field on third down proved to be difficult against Wake Forest and Fuller reflected on that.

“The name of the game is to get off the field and get the ball back to our offense and we didn’t do that enough on Saturday, especially in those ‘in long’ situations we have to get better.”

“Number one, give credit to their quarterback, I mean, he’s a really good player and he executed - we did not. You know, whether it was execution of, you know, the call, the technique, the finis, on how the play should have been defended better, but definitely disappointing. I thought we’d been making some strides on third down.”

Central NY town approves breakthrough electric vehicle service center. Is it Tesla? (PS; $; Doran)

The town has approved a proposed electric-vehicle facility, and there are signs it might involve Tesla.

The Chicago-based developer recently changed its application from a dealership with sales and service to a service-only business.

Why might service-only point to Tesla? Because Tesla doesn’t have dealerships; it sells directly to consumers. And New York law strictly limits auto manufacturers from selling new vehicles directly to customers.
Instead, new vehicles purchased on site must be sold through independent dealers. Under a law passed in 2014 to protect car dealers, Tesla is limited to five stores in New York, which are all downstate.
