Welcome to National Pulled Pork Day!

Pulled pork, consisting of shredded barbecued pork, generally from the shoulder, is celebrated and indulged upon today with National Pulled Pork Day. It is usually smoked slowly outdoors over wood, cooking for hours, regularly for more than half a day, after a dry rub is applied to it. But it can also be made in a slow cooker, in an oven, or in a pressure cooker. Once cooked, pulled pork is shredded and mixed with a sauce. It is often eaten in sandwich form—as a pulled pork sandwich—but it can be eaten on its own. It is particularly popular in the South.

Key Matchups: Syracuse vs NC State (SI; McAllister)

What a time to be an Orange. You’ve got the 1st matchup between top-20 teams in the Dome in over two decades, the men’s soccer team is top-10 in the country, and Judah Mintz may be the next coming of Jonny Flynn. Before we fly too far off the rails, the good folks here at All Syracuse wanted to give you the key matchups to track during the game. If Syracuse really wants to go into a matchup with Clemson the following week still undefeated and with a berth to the ACC championship game potentially at stake, they will need to take care of business against the Wolfpack.

WR Thayer Thomas vs. CB Garrett Williams

Another week, another number one receiver for the Garrett Williams. This matchup we’ll be interesting to track for several reasons -- while Williams has faced more talented receivers, there may not be a more VALUABLE receiver to their respective offense than Thomas. A former walk-on, Thomas has been the model of consistency for the past four years for Dave Doeren’s Wolfpack out of the slot, coming into this season tied for third in NC State football history with 20 receiving TDs, and seventh in school history with 158 receptions. Thomas works almost exclusively out of the slot, and with the status of Devin Leary uncertain, he’ll be targeted and force-fed the ball by whatever QB the Wolfpack throws out there. Slot fades, screens, post corners, and slants over the middle are the main ways NC State tries to get Thomas the ball in space. And as a two-time all-ACC punt returner, he has the wheels to create chunk plays quickly. It’ll be interesting to see how Williams responds to operating mainly in the slot after being primarily a boundary guy through the first half of the season, as well as if there’s any extra juice back and forth with two North Carolina guys going at it. (Williams hails from the Charlotte area, while Thomas is from Wake Forest)

Could NC State UPSET Syracuse in Week 7? | ESPN College Football

It’s been a long time since there was a Top 20 football game at the Dome: ‘I wasn’t born’ (PS; $; Leiker)

Mikel Jones was celebrating his 22nd birthday when he spoke with media Tuesday.

Most of the questions he answered were about No. 18 Syracuse football’s impending game against No. 15 N.C. State on Saturday at the JMA Wireless Dome and the significance of the game.

The last top-20 matchup inside the Dome was SU’s 1998 season opener when the No. 17 Orange hosted No. 10 Tennessee.

That was 24 years ago.

“I wasn’t born,” Jones said. “I was born in 2000. That’s a long time. I’m happy to be a part of it.”

Like Jones, most of Syracuse’s current roster wasn’t even alive yet when it took place.

“I don’t even know if I was a thought,” quarterback Garrett Shrader said.

Though the majority of Syracuse’s seven redshirt seniors were born in 1998, only one was alive for SU’s 34-33 loss to Tennessee — CJ Hayes. He was still much too young to remember it.

Saturday’s game between Syracuse and N.C. State will be just the sixth top-20 matchup held inside the Dome since its inaugural 1980 season.

This was the first week the Orange appeared inside the Top 20 in the AP Top 25. The Wolfpack, meanwhile, have been a top-ranked team since the preseason. N.C. State has bounced from No. 13 to No. 18 and up as high as No. 10. It has never dropped out of the Top 20.

Syracuse football: Dino Babers’s NC State week preview (TNIAAM; Ostrowski)

After a well-deserved week off, the No. 18 Syracuse Orange begin their prep for a battle with No. 15 NC State. We continue this week’s coverage of ‘Cuse football with the latest from Head Coach Dino Babers:

A Top-20 Clash Over 20 Years Overdue

Babers was hoping for a top-20 ranking, and now that his squad has that, he said the Orange “have to go out and prove that we deserve the faith that everybody’s putting in us.”

This kind of matchup has been a long time coming in Syracuse. The last time two ranked teams played in the Dome was back in 2001, when then No. 22 ‘Cuse hosted No. 25 Boston College. It’s been even longer since both teams were in the Top 20. For that, you’d have to go back to the 1998 season opener against eventual National Champion Tennessee.

Syracuse is expecting its biggest crowd of the season so far, with Director of Athletics John Wildhack announcing that over 40,000 tickets have already been sold.

Syracuse versus N.C. State will be the 6th top-20 football game at the Dome. What happened in the other 5? (PS; Leiker)

It’s been 24 years since the last time a top-20 football game was played inside what’s now known as the JMA Wireless Dome.

It’s been 31 years since Syracuse football won a top-20 matchup on its home turf.

And the Orange has never beaten a conference opponent — ACC or otherwise — in a top-20 meeting.

All of that could change Saturday when No. 18 Syracuse hosts No. 15 N.C. State. SU is favored in the game, albeit by less than a touchdown, and could continue its undefeated run to start the season. If the Orange win, it will be the first 6-0 start for the program since 1987 and just the third time ever.

A win would also give SU its first 3-0 start in ACC play in program history.

While only one current Orange player was alive for that most recent top-20 matchup in the Salt City, several said Tuesday that they recognized the significance of the game and were looking forward to adding to Syracuse history. It’s expected to be the most-attended game of the season thus far for SU.

Here’s a brief look at each of the other five top-20 showdowns in the Dome.

1998: No. 17 Syracuse vs. No. 10 Tennessee

SU’s 1998 season opener often elicits anger from Orange fans thanks to a last-minute penalty that set up Tennessee for a game-winning field goal.

The Dome was packed nearly to the brim with 49,550 in attendance for the 34-33 Volunteers victory. Syracuse coach Paul Pasqualoni had invited No. 10 Tennessee to the Salt City to compete against his No. 17 team with senior quarterback Donovan McNabb leading the offense.

It was a fourth-quarter showdown not unlike the one’s this year’s SU team has played against Purdue and Virginia.

SU to update community on JMA Wireless Dome fan safety ahead of Saturday's game (cnycentral.com; Staff)

Syracuse University Vice President and Chief Facilities Officer Pete Sala is scheduled update the public on the fan experience inside the JMA Wireless Dome ahead of Saturday's Syracuse football game.

One thing the university expected to address are safety concerns when it comes to large crowds. SU is anticipating the largest crowd of its football season this weekend, with more than 40,000 people expected to come out and support the Orange. This is also set to be the largest crowd in the Dome since Elton John came to perform in mid-September, where crowds packed tightly together in the concourse before the show began.

Many fans have voiced concern that the crowd expected at Saturday's game will be a repeat of the concert. According to a statement from Syracuse Police, months of preparation went into planning for the Elton John concert, but ultimately it can’t be practiced or rehearsed with the same volume of people.

Another issue that is expected to be addressed is the issues fans have had with the sound system inside the Dome, with some fans worried they won't be able to hear the action on the field.

A Syracuse Football fan’s visit to Earth-3789 (TNIAAM; Pregler)

We are no stranger to multiversal shenanigans here at TNIAAM, especially when they involve the Syracuse Orange. However, when Bill C of ESPN and SP+ fame gets in on the action, you know that the universe currently inhabited, for as crazy as it may seem, is really pretty stable compared to what’s out there in the multiverse of college football simulations.

Looks right to us https://t.co/H8x7ddlBz6 pic.twitter.com/328Vt1GMjT
— NunesMagician.com (@NunesMagician) October 7, 2022

So how does Syracuse make the playoff? What happens to get the Orange playing against Bama, Ole Miss, and USC? Go find America Chavez, because we are about to jump to Earth-3789.

Ok, that was cool. We’re now in Atlanta, at the site of the Peach Bowl, so naturally, I’m going to go to my favorite bar in midtown, Cypress Street Pint and Plate, and need to see if someone can walk me through the college football season. Thankfully, it’s filled with Orange and... USC fans? Ok, this is definitely weird. Thankfully, ESPN is on a TV and thanks to plot magic, explaining exactly how Syracuse’s undefeated run got them the No. 3 seed in the College Football Playoff.

Syracuse Football: Yes, the Orange is a true 5-0 team (itlh; Fiello)

I’m a sports talk guy, especially when it comes to Syracuse football and other Orange sports. I like podcasts when I’m at work and listen to Brent Axe on my hour-long drive home from work. It’s always interesting when you listen as a passionate fan to what you might hear.

Recently I heard a national radio host talking about whether an NFL team would be a “real 4-1” team if they’d won. And recently Orange fans have probably noticed the hesitancy to rank Syracuse football at first. They are finally in the top 20 but it definitely felt like Syracuse had to prove they deserved it more than certain favorites losing proved they didn’t.

My belief is that polls are flawed and based too highly on “expert expectations” meaning a sports writer thinks they know the potential of the team more than a record actually shows. It’s my contention that polls should be based on record especially if we are going to base jobs and standings on win/loss records as well.

Preview of Syracuse NC State game Saturday...

Axe: How big of a game is SU vs. N.C. State? Depends on who you ask (PS; $; Axe)

Syracuse linebacker Mikel Jones was honest when asked if Saturday’s tilt between his 18th-ranked Orange and No. 15 N.C. State at the JMA Wireless Dome will be the biggest football game he ever plays in.

“No, sir.” Jones said. “Mater Dei vs. IMG. My senior year.”

Defensive lineman Caleb Okechukwu said it’s the biggest because it is the next one.

“It’s the same approach,” Okechukwu said. “We expected to be doing well like this. I’m just blessed that we’re doing it.”

There must have been an echo in the room because quarterback Garrett Shrader gave a similar answer when asked the same question.

“It’s the next game, that’s what it’s the most important,” Shrader said. “The rankings and all that stuff doesn’t necessarily matter. I think it will be a fun one. I think if we take care of business, do what we are supposed to, scoreboard should be in our favor at the end of the game.”

Syracuse University wants to put a 205-foot tall JMA Wireless sign on top of the Dome.

Syracuse University gets approval from city for JMA Dome signs that will change skyline (PS; Carlson)

Syracuse University received approval from the City Planning Commission to move forward with a plan that will give JMA Wireless a spot on the city skyline.

The university’s plan to build signage outside of the JMA Wireless Dome, including a 2,200-square-foot sign attached to the building’s roof, was advanced during the body’s meeting on Tuesday night.

The centerpiece of the plan includes the installation of a JMA Dome sign that will be attached to the crown-truss portion of the roof. Three smaller signs will be attached to three different sides of the building.

The largest sign will be attached more than 200 feet in the air. The bulk of it will be 32 feet tall and 68 feet wide. For comparison’s sake, the Hollywood sign in Los Angeles is 45 feet tall and 350 feet wide.

The JMA Dome sign will face west and seems almost certain to serve as an unofficial landmark, one likely to be seen by drivers approaching the campus and by TV audiences during national broadcasts.

The school did not provide a specific timeframe for installation of the signage, saying it hoped to begin work “soon.”

ACC coaching carousel roundtable: The best, worst and most surprising hires (theathletic.com; $; Staff)

The ACC has had a wide range of results with coaching hires in the 21st century, headlined by national championship winners Dabo Swinney and Jimbo Fisher and program builders like David Cutcliffe and Dave Clawson, with plenty of disappointing tenures as well

Who was the best coaching hire in the ACC since 2000? What about the worst? Who hasn’t been an ACC head coach but should be? The Athletic’s Nicole Auerbach, Matt Fortuna, Andy Bitter, Grace Raynor and Manny Navarro gathered to discuss.

What was the best hire in the ACC since 2000?

Raynor: Dabo Swinney was not the popular choice by any stretch of the imagination when former Clemson athletic director Terry Don Phillips removed his interim tag on Dec.1, 2008. But Phillips clearly knew something the rest of the college football world didn’t, and Clemson has reaped the benefits. Under Swinney, the Tigers have won seven ACC championships and two national titles, in addition to signing seven top-10 recruiting classes in the 247Sports Composite. Like him or not, Swinney’s record puts him in the conversation for one of the best hires in all of college football.

Navarro: Swinney’s the obvious choice, but Dave Clawson stands out for so many reasons. Let’s start with Wake Forest’s recruiting class rankings in the 247Sports Composite since Clawson took over for Jim Grobe in 2014, in chronological order: 67th (last in the ACC in 2014), 51st (12th out of 14 teams in the league), 57th (11th), 68th (last), 64th (last), 59th (last), 59th (13th), 66th (last), and 72nd (13th). So, the recruiting classes aren’t supposed to be any good, yet Clawson has gone 56-49 (including 16-4 overall and 8-2 in the ACC since the start of the 2021 season) with an Atlantic Division crown. Now, he has Wake ranked in the top 15 and on a path toward a seventh consecutive bowl appearance. He also created the “slow mesh” offense, which is spawning copycats. Nobody is doing more with less perceived talent at the Power 5 level than Clawson.

ACC football power rankings: Florida State falls after second straight loss, UNC cracks top five (247sports.com; Marsdale)

The ACC once again had an up and down week, and that reflects with movement inside this week’s ACC Power Rankings. Florida State came up just short at NC State for its second-straight loss, while UNC held off Miami. The Tar Heels crack the top-five in this week’s power rankings, while the Seminoles fall out of it.

Elsewhere, Clemson took care of business again to improve to 6-0. The Tigers did not allow Boston College to score a touchdown in their 31-3 win, and they continue to hold the top spot in the rankings.

Elsewhere, Georgia Tech continues to surprise, as the Yellow Jackets won their second-straight game under interim coach Brent Key. When Geoff Collins was fired, many thought it would be a shock if Georgia Tech was able to exit the basement of the ACC. Now? The Yellow Jackets are creeping closer towards the top half of the rankings after beating Duke.

Subscribe to 247Sports YouTube for the latest college football, basketball and recruiting news including live college commitments.

While the top-four stays the same in this week’s power rankings, plenty of other movement happens elsewhere:

1. CLEMSON TIGERS (6-0, 1)

Clemson has not left this spot all season, and the Tigers did not let Boston College flirt with an upset even for a moment over the weekend. D.J. Uiagalelei continued his stellar bounceback season, throwing for 220 yards and three touchdowns and leading his team on the ground with 69 yards. Clemson allowed Boston College to gain just 254 yards and sacked quarterback Phil Jurkovec four times. It is another road game for Dabo Swinney and company, as Clemson heads to Florida State for a night game to face a Seminoles team that has lost two in a row after a 4-0 start.

2. WAKE FOREST DEMON DEACONS (5-1, 2)

After a slugfest with Army last season, Wake Forest blew the doors off the Black Knights, 45-10. Army put up just 10 points despite gaining 407 yards. Wake Forest has a bye before going on the road to face Louisville and NC State. Should the Demon Deacons take care of business beforehand, the game at the Wolfpack could go a long way in determining which team potentially gets a New Year’s Six bid, assuming Clemson keeps a stranglehold on the ACC Atlantic Division.

3. NC STATE WOLFPACK (5-1, 3)

Despite losing starting quarterback Devin Leary midway through the third quarter, NC State was able to pull out a narrow 19-17 win over Florida State. In a crucial ACC Atlantic battle against Syracuse, head coach Dave Doeren did not offer much about the status of Leary.
"It's a rehabable injury," Doeren said, via PackPride. "It's a day-to-day thing. ... There's no timeline. It could be this week or it could be six weeks."
That does not sound too promising if you are a Wolfpack fan. Jack Chambers only attempted one pass in relief of Leary, so that tells you what Doeren thinks about the situation at the position.

4. SYRACUSE ORANGE (5-0, 4)

11371547.jpg
(Photo: USA TODAY Sports)

Ahead of the bye, Syracuse was piling on FCS member Wagner so much that Dino Babers and Seahawks coach Tom Masella agreed to play 10-minute quarters in the second half. The Orange rolled to a 59-0 victory — leading 49-0 at halftime. A blowout was largely expected, but the Orange have three of their five wins against Power Five opponents, with the other two coming against inferior teams that never gave them even the slightest bit of a scare. Babers had to at least get the Orange back to postseason play this season, but it appears he will do more than that.

ACC Power Rankings Week 6 (fromtherumbleseat.com; Cramer)

The ACC has gotten down to the core of its conference play. Clemson continues to sit comfortably on top like a cat sitting on a fresh load of towels right out of the dryer. NC State and FSU couldn’t decide who wanted to win their game this week, but after FSU felt they led long enough decided to blow their lead and chance at a comeback. The Wolfpack thanked them and took their spot in second in the Atlantic as Wake Forest played a non-con against Army and showed them how to deploy offensive firepower. Louisville decided to join the win column this week against fellow winless Virginia.

The Coastal in its ever-chaotic universe had three divisional matchups this week to help sort out the pecking order. VT got out to a good offensive start before Pitt decided throwing the ball is useless and just let RB Israel Abanikanda run for 320 yards and 6 touchdowns. On the other end of the spectrum, Miami and UNC decided air travel is the only way to go and had both QBs pass for a combined 800 yards. Despite all that yardage, neither team managed 30 points and UNC came out on top to set themselves nicely in the Coastal. Finally, Duke went down to Atlanta on homecoming to take on the Jackets. Duke managed their only offensive TD with 8 seconds remaining to send it to OT. A costly offensive PI and a missed kick by Duke would be all for naught as Georgia Tech won and now controls its own destiny in conference play.

Power Rankings

  1. Clemson - Neither team wanted to score in the first half as Clemson took a power nap into the half with a 10-3 lead on Boston College. After a good rest, they came out and put the Eagles to bed. They’ll travel to FSU next which seemed to be a good game a few weeks ago but the Seminoles have been slipping the last two weeks.
  2. Wake Forest - The Deacons took a breather from the nail-biters this week and easily dispatched Army at home. They’ll get another rest this week with a bye before finishing off their schedule with 6 straight conference games.
  3. North Carolina State - The Wolfpack appeared in trouble at the half after FSU scored 17 points in the 2nd quarter. Credit to the NC State defense as it would be only points FSU would score as NC State widdled down the lead with a touchdown and three straight field goals. A deciding game looms next week though against the unbeaten...
  4. Syracuse - The Syracuse Orange took a bye after navigating the first half of their schedule without a loss. It’s time to prove that record as the next three up are NC State, Clemson, and Notre Dame.

ACC Football: Week Seven Power Rankings - Sports Illustrated Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets News, Analysis and More (SI; Caudell)

There was not a lot of shakeup in the ACC power rankings this week here at AllYellowJackets.com

Clemson remains the best team in the conference by a wide margin, NC State survived losing their starting quarterback vs Florida State, Pittsburgh running back Israel Abanikanda had a historic day running the ball, and North Carolina took an early lead in the Coastal division by beating Miami.

So how do the ACC power rankings look heading into week seven?

14, Virginia (2-4, L vs Louisville 34-17)- Last week: 14)

There is not anything good to say about Virginia right now, especially after this past weekend. Louisville was playing with their backup quarterback and still beat the Cavaliers by three scores. This team looks to be the worst in the Coastal Division and in the conference as a whole right now and it is only going to get tougher from this point forward. Virginia is off this week and then has a Thursday night road trip to Atlanta to face Georgia Tech.

13. Virginia Tech (2-4, L vs Pitt 45-29)- Last week: 13

The Hokies continued to look dreadful in ACC play and could not stop Pitt's rushing attack. Virginia Tech got a standout performance from Kaleb Smith at wide receiver, totaling over 150 yards and the offense looked decent for the first time all year, but they have not been able to put together a complete performance in any game this year. A home game against a reeling Miami team awaits Virginia Tech on Saturday.

12. Miami (2-3. L vs North Carolina 27-24)- Last week: 10

Miami finally got a good game out of quarterback Tyler Van Dyke, as he threw for nearly 500 yards and three touchdowns vs North Carolina. The thing is, Miami still could not find a way to win. The defense played pretty well given that they were facing the best quarterback in the ACC in North Carolina's Drake Maye, but they still gave up big plays. The running game for Miami was terrible though and the red zone offense is still among the worst in the country. Miami travels to Virginia Tech on Saturday.

11. Boston College (2-4, L vs Clemson 31-3)- Last week: 11

Boston College hung around for longer than most anticipated against Clemson, but the Eagles still could not muster any offense in the loss to the Tigers. There are still games left to play, but it is going to be unlikely that this team makes a bowl game this season.

10. Louisville (3-3, W vs Virginia 34-17)- Last week: 12

Louisville got their first ACC win of the season against a struggling Virginia team, but the fact that they did it with their backup quarterback is impressive. The hot-seat talk around Scott Satterfield is not going to quiet down though and this team is still going to have to win tough games the rest of the year.

9. Duke (4-2, L vs Georgia Tech 23-20 OT)- Last week: 7

Duke lost their first ACC game of the year on Saturday against Georgia Tech and it was largely due to the ineptitude of their offense. Quarterback Riley Leonard had his worst game of the season and the ground game could not get going against the Yellow Jackets. A tough test against hated rival North Carolina is on deck Saturday.

8. Pittsburgh (4-2, W vs Virginia Tech 45-29)- Last week: 9
...

...

4. Syracuse (5-0, Bye week)- Last week: 4

Syracuse was off this past Saturday and now will get ready for a big matchup with NC State. The Wolfpack might be playing with their backup quarterback and that would give Syracuse a chance to get to bowl eligibility at 6-0 and set up a big showdown against Clemson the week after.

Brett Friedlander breaks down historically strong powerhouse football programs Duke, UNC, and Syracuse + UVA & VT – 105.9 WLNI-FM (wlni.com; podcast; The Sportsline)

ACC sports reporter for 40+ years, Brett Friedlander joins The Sportsline to talk football in the conference, including how the historic and bitter Duke-North Carolina rivalry has spilt over to the gridiron, on area teams Virginia Tech and UVA, and who could end up number one in the ACC basketball preseason rankings.

Virginia Tech football: Hokies show some improvement in loss to Pitt (gobblercountry.com; Manning)

Virginia Tech’s back-to-back losses to West Virginia and North Carolina were humbling defeats. The two geographical rivals outclassed the Hokies on both sides of the ball defeating Virginia Tech by a combined score of 74-20.

If you didn’t know before, it was clear the Hokies were in the early stages of a teardown. The lack of talent against two teams that Virginia Tech has had plenty of success against throughout the years was evident. The Hokies have dominated UNC since entering the ACC in 2004, but now, North Carolina looks like an elite program compared to Virginia Tech.

Against the Tar Heels, we got to see what a big-time quarterback looks like. Sam Howell was terrific for the Heels over the last three years; Drake Maye will be even better. That’s scary. And having that type of quarterback, a salesman like Mack Brown in charge and the Jordan Brand behind them, North Carolina will further separate themselves from Virginia Tech.

Film room: Duke football has tough defensive test ahead against North Carolina and quarterback Drake Maye (dukechronicle.com; Jindal)

Sitting 1-1 in the ACC, Duke next returns home to face historic rival North Carolina. The Blue Zone takes a look at how the Tar Heels fare ahead of Saturday's high-stakes matchup:

Duke suffered its first ACC loss of the season in Atlanta, falling in overtime 23-20 to Georgia Tech. Despite the loss, the Blue Devils showed immense resilience, a focal point of head coach Mike Elko's team, which has led to increased success. After being down by 14 points in the fourth quarter, Duke fought its way back and forced overtime.

Quarterback Jeff Sims led the Yellow Jackets to victory, throwing for 227 yards and rushing for over 100. Next up for Duke is rival North Carolina, which has quite a capable quarterback of its own. The 5-1 Tar Heels—led by redshirt freshman Drake Maye—sit atop the ACC Coastal.

The Maye family is one the Blue Devil faithful may regretfully remember, as Luke Maye was a stout power forward for the Tar Heels’ basketball team from 2015-2019. Duke will have to watch out for his younger brother Drake, who has put up enormous numbers through the first half of the season. Maye leads the ACC in passing yards per game, averaging over 317. Watch Maye throw a strike downfield against Miami to deep-play threat Antoine Green in the following clip.

Start building homes now to handle Micron’s coming population surge, Ryan McMahon says (PS; $; Knauss)

Construction of the Syracuse area’s first chip fab is more than a year away. But Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon is already exhorting home builders, developers and the public to make way for Micron Technology and the growth it will bring.

The county is negotiating to buy more land near the 1,400-acre site where Micron plans to spend up to $100 billion building four chip fabs. McMahon hopes he can attract major suppliers who will want to be near Micron.

McMahon is urging home builders and real estate developers to start creating new housing now.

He just gave his economic development director a $35,000 raise and detailed him to oversee all county work on the Micron development.

McMahon said Micron’s decision to locate in the Syracuse area could unleash a boom that increases the county population by as much as 60% over the next two decades. He sees Onondaga County, population 462,000, growing to the size of Rochester-based Monroe County, population 743,000.

“Maybe bigger,’’ he said.

There is a lot of groundwork needed to make that happen, he said.

“To maximize this opportunity in front of us, we’re going to have to be bold and aggressive,’’ McMahon said.

To get the public ready, McMahon is planning to conduct a series of town hall meetings to talk about the project and its potential. He hasn’t put out a schedule yet. McMahon said he hopes to foster broad support for growth and to chip away at public pessimism built up over decades by the exodus of manufacturers like General Electric, Chrysler and Carrier.

Micron changes all that, he said.
