Welcome to National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day!
National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, which is observed annually in the United States on December 7, is to remember and honor the 2,403 victims who were killed in the Japanese surprise attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. On August 23, 1994, United States Congress, by Pub.L. 103–308, designated December 7 of each year as National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day.[1] National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day is also referred to as Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day or Pearl Harbor Day. It is a tradition to fly the Flag of the United States at half-staff until sunset in honor of dead patriots.[2]

During his accomplished 30-year football coaching career, Babers' name has been synonymous with winning. Known for his teams' offensive prowess, respected for his keen sense for recruiting and mentoring top-tier student-athletes, and lauded by many for his ability to turn around football programs, Babers takes the helm of Syracuse football as the program's 30th head coach.
"It is a true honor to have been selected to lead Syracuse University football, a program steeped in rich tradition, excellence, and success, both on and off the field," said Babers. "There were many coaching opportunities out there but none more attractive or exciting than this one. I've always admired Syracuse Football's scrappy demeanor, grit, and winning mentality, but what attracted me to this position even more is the University's intense focus on preparing its student-athletes for a lifetime of success. This is an incredible opportunity and one I am thrilled to have been offered."

SU Football Fans Sounds Off on New Coach (cnycentral.com; Hall)
Fans of the Orange overall seemed pleased with the hiring of Dino Babers as the next head coach of Syracuse University Football.
"I think it's a good hire," said Josh Goodrich, a longtime fan. "He's got some experience as a head coach, and he is going to bring in some good recruits hopefully and bring the program up to where it needs to be."
Students say they hope it makes football games more exciting to watch. Several students voiced opinions saying Basketball and Lacrosse games currently own student interest.
Getting to Know Coach Babers: Q&A with a Bowling Green Fan (TNIAAM; Cassillo)
It's official: the Syracuse Orange have named Dino Babers as its new head football coach. We've talked a lot about what we think we know about the Orange's new head man, but to get even more details, we went and asked a Bowling Green fan to spill the beans.
Matt Daley, of SB Nation's MAC blog Hustle Belt, happens to root for the Falcons and covers the team over there. So we tossed a bunch of questions over and he was nice enough to oblige below. Please thank him in the comments or on Twitter.
First off: Congratulations on Friday night's MAC title. Obviously you guys are sort of used to that level of achievement, but had to be nice to win like that in Dino Babers' last game on the sidelines.
For us, it was very similar to 2013. That year, we also went 9-3 overall and 7-1 in the MAC. When we went to the championship game, most of us had a good idea that Dave Clawson had one foot out the door, and he left for Wake Forest very quickly after winning that game. With Babers, we knew when he came to BGSU that he was older and had been at EIU only two years, so the likelihood of him being successful and staying with us was small at best. It's disappointing, but this is life for teams in the MAC. Babers gave us everything he could in two years, so we'll take the title and move on.

Upstate NY's Best Winter Beers: Here are 10 to Try: (newyorkupstate.com; Cazentre)
Some people think winter beers have to be spicy -- and many are in fact made with such additives as nutmeg, cinnamon or cloves. Others may include flavorings like cocoa, coffee or vanilla.
But those spices and flavors don't define winter beers. Many of the best have just barley malt and hops -- usually quite a lot of each.
The key: Winter beers should be full-bodied and warming. That usually means relatively high alcohol levels, say in the 6.5 to 10 percent range. (A standard domestic lager, like Budweiser, is about 5 percent).
Here are some suggestions for great winter beers brewed in Upstate New York (they're not ranked, but we've listed them, roughly, from west to east):
Krampus Imperial Helles Lager
Southern Tier Brewing Co., Lakewood (Jamestown), NY
A winter holiday beer that breaks from the spicy ale concept: Krampus is a strong lager (9 percent), clear amber in color, but with a warming kick from a boatload of malts and hops. It's named for the fanged, goat-horned and rather nasty elf that some European traditions say is the "enforcer" of Santa's naughty-or-nice list. Amid many Southern Tier beers that are terrific winter warmers, this one stands out.
Imperial Sponge Candy Stout
Resurgence Brewing Co., Buffalo, NY
If you're from Western New York, you know the regional treat called sponge candy. Buffalo's Resurgence Brewing makes a 5.5 percent alcohol Sponge Candy Stout, and for the winter, a stronger (10 percent), Imperial version, both available in 22-ounce bottles. The beers are made with sponge candy cuttings from Watson's Chocolates, but get their chocolate aromas from barley malt. There's also a limited release Bourbon barrel aged version.
