For some reason, I can not dislike Clemson

Everyone who just said the word rival in conjunction with Clemson should give yourself a 1 week self-ban. We sound like Rutgers after they beat us for the first time in 20 years. Clemson's rival isn't even in the ACC, it's the Gamecocks or Coots as they are better known to the Tigers. We are nowhere near Clemson's level and to even think we have a rivalry developing with them is crap. Most of them don't even consider us a serious competitor let alone rival. To them we are a basketball school taking some of their ACC money. Don't imagine for 1 second they see us as anymore than that. It would take years to change it. Pitt beat them in 2016, do they have a rivalry too? Nah, didn't think so.

I'm reminded of the story about the mouse floating down the river lying on his back on a log in a state of sexual excitement yelling "Raise the drawbridge!!!"

Of course. There's crazies everywhere. But the exception does not prove the rule.

I'll stick with my observation that there's a good-natured element of these Southern school fan bases that many Northern ones don't evidence.

When we had a two game series with Auburn a few years ago, I thought the conversation between the two fan bases was oe of the most intelligent and generally positive ones we have ever had with the fans of any opponent. And we began with the "Tie Dyed" Sugar Bowl game as a starting point.

That's when I started to think, "These people really are different". How many other fan base's can you say at the end of the conversation, "I understand what they are saying and I respect their opinion".
I have lived in the south for 10 yrs, right in SEC country. My experience has been that there is every bit as much hatred within the southern football rivalries as the northern basketball rivalries.

I disliked them 4-5 years ago when I thought they were being treated by the media like a way better program than they actually were.

But they’ve been really great the last 3 years, so I don’t begrudge them the media attention anymore. They’ve earned it now.

In the same boat, I root for Clemson as well. I feel like they are the good guys when compared to the rest of the current top schools.

Also had a great time there in 2014. Many fans came over to our tailgate to wish us luck and welcome us to town. They also invited us over to their tailgates as well. All greeted us with smiles, food, and booze.

Great experience that everyone should do once.

I feel like their fans mellowed out a bit after we beat them last year. It might just be me though.

This is the 37th post and the fact that none of you said the reasons why u like are Clemson are:

1A Terry Kinard
1B Andy Headen

Means once again, you have all failed at posting.

Dabo taking down saben was right up there though...

I was hiking in the desert recently and got bitten by a snake. Lucky for me, the next hiker on the path was a Clemson fan. He sucked the venom from my wound, applied a poultice he fashioned from some bark and cactus sap, then left me with his canteen and some jerky as went to get help.

Class act
No problem whatsoever. I was just happy I could help. And don't worry about me. I always carry two extra canteens in case I come across anyone (other than a gamecock) in distress.

If it's a gamecock, I'll still let them have a canteen but I make them pay. Also for gamecocks I also carry a piece of hose with one suction end so they can suck their own venom.

I don't hate them but I dislike them. I have met a handful of their fans. Some very nice. Some cocky. They all seem to have one thing in common and that Syracuse is not much of a football school and we don't bring a lot to their conference. They recognize our past (some just laugh, and do not) but still we aren't good enough. We got lucky with a gimmicky offense and probably won't ever beat them again. The ACC is mostly about Yankee basketball and they could do much better if the conference would have gotten better football schools or kick teams out. Honestly I don't think many Clemson fans know that much about us. The respect is not there imo. To the Clemson fans that come on here, you guys are a mature bunch. Every fan base has the good and the bad.
I wish I could argue your point but, honestly I can't. I don't think Syracuse is being singled out though. A lot of Clemson fans have a complex about the rest of the ACC in general. Some of it is with good reason but at some point you need to just move on.

For my part, I have to say that Syracuse is probably my favorite ACC opponent. I attended the first Clemson-Syracuse game at your place and was treated royally by your fans - It was one of your board posters in fact but I will keep their identity to myself so no one will know that they gave aid and comfort to the enemy.

I always root for Clemson in games that don’t affect Syracuse. “BYOG”’in the pouring rain might have been my favorite post game quote.

We do have a little known amnesty program for grievous infractions. :)

My son has Down syndrome, so I'm biased, but I'm a Dabo fan. This video kills me every time.

My mother thought autistic children for most of her career and she loves that video as well.

I know nothing of your sons situation but If he is is eligible you should check out the “Clemson Life” program. Its a college program gear towards students with special needs. It continues to grow each each and the stories out of the students and parents have been incredible to hear. Our school president has a special needs child and it was one of the attractions to clemson was how welcoming the College is towards those students.

Welcome to ClemsonLIFE

Now that SU is in the ACC for a while, the only team that I have a hard time disliking is Clemson. Their fans are friendly and support them home and away , the coaching staff is all class and they wear orange which should bug me put doesn't mostly because they add purple which I'm a fan of. I like this kind of "rivalry" (have to beat them more to be one) and the beauty part is this year if SU wins we root for the Tigers to win out. If SU loses we root for Clemson to win out.

As for the other schools, there isn't one I would like to see SU crush to the ground and along with that have multiple annoying things that go with them and each of us know what they are from Pittsburgh to Boston and then down the beautiful Atlantic, those schools, they are mud to me for many and various reasons.

Now back to the Tigers. I'd like to see if we can think of a trophy for the winner. A battle of orange maybe thrown in some way. The Dino/Dabo Trophy? Hopefully from now on, we'll just call the winner of this game...The Champion of the Atlantic Division.

I am still smiling from when we 41-notiing their butts.

Syracuse has a lot of cool fans and also alot of fans that suck! I'm glad to hear you had a great time!

I agree with another poster in that any feelings we have towards the conference and commissioner are not specific to Syracuse... a long time ago for many years we were the one football school (pre FSU) in a basketball conference. A LOT of history of decision by the conference that seemed to benefit those schools that were more basketball centric.

Lucky for us the tides turned a bit and the amount of revenue pulled in from basketball versus football is pennies on the dollar. There is a perception from a portion of our fan base that does believe there are some basketball focused schools in the conference that need to use more of the TV money from football to put back into developing their football programs.

We may be one of the few schools where it’s Football 1, Baseball 2 and then basketball... our soccer and golf programs have traditionally been good, at least much better than our basketball which frankly is an afterthought by most fans...

I think it just took a while for the ACC to realize that football drives the bus, financially. They seem to have gotten the point, though. Hopefully, we will be pulling our own weight soon, football-wise.

Now, baseball on the other hand... :(

You guys want to go D1 in lacrosse? ;)

This post should win an award. I don't know what award it should win, but it is definitely deserving.

I really don’t care if Clemson is considered a rivalry or not, it’s a great team with great tradition. Compare it to our Big East “rivalry” with Miami which I hated with a passion. What a trash pit. The turnover chain says it all with that school. Can you imagine Clemson introducing some gimmick like that? It’s nice to be able to respect your opponent.

And I'm still smarting from it!

True story - The State newspaper in Columbia, SC opened their first website in the summer of 1995. Those were the days of dial up internet. When I went to their site, I was usually treated to stories that had been published in the actual paper as much as two days earlier.

We watched the 41-0 shellacking at a friend's house. When it was over, I came straight home to see the reaction on Tigernet (which was about 4 months old at the time and had maybe 50 posters). It didn't take long to read what was there so I pulled up the State website. There in World War III headlines was the full story of the Clemson loss complete with photographs of all of Syracuse's best plays. The paper was run by all gamecocks at the time and their offices actually backed up to Williams Brice Stadium. It took them days to get articles about world and national affairs on their site but about 20 minutes to publish a story about Clemson being humiliated.

And outsiders wonder why we despise those cluckers!
