what do ND change up if anything to slow the offense down so Etta had less room after the first couple of series? we seemed to have decent pass protection most of the day. Several drops on key throws hurt and Dungey has happy feet at times but still how do we come out ripping down the field for 5-10 min and then go 30 without scoring?

I know it helps that ND still has a huge size/speed advantage on D. you watch Jackson run away from Clemson last night and realize how much any scheme looks when the QB can just run out of trouble.

Watch Brian Kelly's presser posted above. He explains what they did in an attempt to take ET out of the game.

They rolled a safety to him on nearly every play, the safety stayed deep and really stopped him from getting any deep open looks

That's exactly what happened on the 4th down play from the 5. They gave ET a huge cushion and brought the safety over as soon the ball was snapped.

and thus the need for 2 guys who can get deep in this style of offense.. we have 1 deep threat, 1 quick slot guy and then 2 guys who run slow shallow routes, BG had 2 guys who could get by the TENN corners, we need 2 and I wonder next yr if we will even have 1.

Hopefully Custis can but looking good in practice against our D who can tell. Estime will be gone, ISH needs to be the #3 not the #1-#2 in this system.

I look 2 yrs down the road and we have a ton of spots to fill to make this offense fly. I think Riley can be Phillips, I see glimpses in Butler. but does that mean we have to find 5-6 more guys in the next 2 classes?

this is where you hear Dino talk about Dungey playing better. if they double ET then that leaves spaces for the others. he hit phillips once and threw a catchable but not great one the other time. the reality is Estime is not built for this offense, but Riley is and next year I think those 2 will be tough to handle. Custis is supposed to be our kid that ND has. If he was I think we would be really seeing something this year.

Well, in fairness, Custis is hurt. But Butler could be the guy.

I have no read on Custis since he has never seen the field and practice reports against our D might mean nothing. I like that Dungey brings him up when talking so he must be impressing in some way.

If he is done for the year why not tell people? it wont change any game planning, so maybe he might still be back?

That's exactly it. It's going to be Butler, but they can't just throw him into the deep end. They're working him in now.

Custis isn't a burner. He's more like Ish. Bigger, physical WR type.

Still need a few more for depth.
