Forde says Schiano could be the guy

Syracuse (11). Left: Scott Shafer. Arriving: Is this the re-entry point for Greg Schiano? Has had success in the northeast, and his name hasn’t generated as much interest at some other locales as might have been expected. (There was some chatter about Schiano and Miami, but it may not be front-burner chatter.) Remains to be seen if athletic director Mark Coyle would reciprocate any Schiano interest, but he seemingly would be a very good hire at a school that has been down on its football luck for most of the last decade.

As icky as I would feel, I wouldnt hate it.
I'd rather eat lint

What does Greg give us? Offensive mastermind, No. Great recruiter, No. Great in game coach? No. We better pass.

This would be the face of the football team...

I agree while the answer is "NO" to all of those things, on the other hand he also isn't awful at any of those things either. He is an experienced middle of the road college coach. And those 3 things you mentioned, is he "great" at any of them...no. Is he an upgrade on each one of those over what we had in Shafer, Clearly YES!

Do I think SU gets him, probably not. I think we will get someone with Boise ties or ties with Coyle in some way, which Schiano doesn't have. BUT, I wouldn't be upset if Schiano was our next caoch

It's not clearly yes on any of them. What he was clearly better at was scheduling like a pansy.

Yeah, well, you know, that’s just, like, your opinion, man.

I don't have a problem with a team down 1 score trying to disrupt the snap and causing a turnover during the center-QB exchange. But from end to end he had everyone fire out low at the knees of the OL. Even DL who were not near the center. How does cheap shoting an OT help cause a turnover? Take him out so he can't get fall on a fumble?

It's clearly yes on all 3 in my opinion and its not even close. Schiano is a better recruiter, better at in game decisions, and ran a better offense...not saying he was "great" at any of those but he is clearly better than Shafer. Good enough to get an NFL team to offer him to make him a head coach. No NFL team will ever offer Shafer to be a head coach. To me that says it all.

Again, I'm not saying I want Schiano or saying he is some all time great coach. cause he isn't!!! Just comparing him straight up vs Shafer...yes Schiano is better. That's all I'm saying. I hope SU can do better than Schiano and I think they will.

Maybe, I don't know. The point, was to cause a disruption, and yes, if there was a fumble, perhaps the defense would be in a better position to recover. Call me naive. As much of an a$sho!e as Schiano might be, I don't think he was deliberately trying to injure the New York Giants' offensive line.

Aren't there a couple of younger, experienced MAC head coaches we can consider first?

I haven't read this thread, for good reason. BUT I SAY NO, GOD NO! NOT SCHIANO FOR THE LOVE OF GOD

Offense? Most of his tenure, the Rutgers offense consisted of blocking punts and defensive TD's, eeking out a few 21-17 wins while putting up 160 yards of offense.

You should feel icky for not hating it.

It is beyond stupid to want or think Schiano is the ONE answer to this equation. Oh Lord

You haven't heard him being seriously mentioned for any opening since Tampa Bay. Basically he's been found out.

I would rather buy pins for orangefog to hand to Toga to stick in Crusty's eyes.

I would rather sell off an organ to give the $ to Digable to buy pins for orangefog to hand to Toga to stick in Crusty's eyes.

I'm not in favor of Schiano as a coach here, and I hated him as the coach in Tampa (sadly, I'm a Bucs fan), but I honestly didn't have an issue with the victory formation thing. I had an issue with basically everything else that he did though.

From one Bucs fan to another... that REALLY sucked having Schiano as head coach. However, I think it got even worse now that Crab Legs is our starting QB (even though he is good). Man, I must either be delusional or soft in the brain continuing to root for a constant under performing team with these kind of guys representing... hell, maybe I'm both. Oh well, at least I'm good at consuming beer.

I'd rather spend the time sharpening my swiss army knife to cut out Comstock's organ to be able to give the cash to Digable to buy pins for orangefog to hand to Toga to stick in Crusty's eyes.

First off this just proves how really clueless Forde really is. Secondly this would be about as close to a deal breaker as I can think of to me as an SU football fan. I'd rather see them bring back GRob, seriously. This would be worse than Patrick Ewing drafted by the Knicks or Wade Boggs and Roger Clemens wearing pinstripes. A hire like that could get Coyle fired before Schiano ever hit campus the backlash would be so loud. Can you imagine Kent and the BOT's reaction to the fan reaction when they announce Shady as the new football coach during an SU home hoop game.
