Fort Drum Waste of Time

I wonder if with the expanded coaching contact rules if it can be done before training camp starts have it be strnegth and conditioning instead the week before. And the last day could be the first of camp and they could have an open practice.

Shafer rightly sees it as a chance to use football as a way of becoming a man, good citizen, successful, etc. Winning will always be the most important metric for fans...

HA! It better be the most important metric for Shafer or else he will be out of work and moving all about the country living the "assistant coach lifestyle"

Agree to disagree. People just want to watch a winning football team. Nobody cares about the other stuff at the end of the day. I have never heard on a post game call in show say or a journalist in the Post Standard write something to effect of..."hey SU lost 28-7, bu AJ Long got a 100 on his math test boy I am really proud of him for that. SU football is producing some fine individuals. "

I'm just saying in reality, nobody cares about the other stuff. It's all and only about football at the end of the day
People with a sense of priority care.

I think they should go every year - the problem this past year is they did it very late in the practice schedule last year.

I once asked HCDM if it was a distraction and he insisted it was not as long as they went during the first week of formal practice. He said they didn't lose anything because the first week is more about refreshing of plays, reps, conditioning and they didn't go full pads until end of week.

I have no idea why HCSS changed the dates and I'm not going to speculate but I didn't like the reason or what I was told but that was 3rd hand knowledge.

I know this is a Syracuse Athletics message and that is our main love... But can we think about how much this trip means for the Soldiers and their families? Soldiers being able to work out with, train, and hang with a D1 football team. Kids, who's parents might be over seas, getting to have a practice with the big boys.

They started doing this a year after I left Fort Drum, but man it would have been awesome to be there.

No doubt Chiz, great post.

At the end of the day though, are they sacrificing the football program by doing this? I love the fact that it is a great experience for the soldiers and their families, and our players/coaches as well, but at what point does everything need to be reexamined? If we went 9-3 this year, this would be a non-issue; however, the fact that we were a really, really bad 3-9 squad and ended the year on a dreadful slide brings all things into light.

Shafer has some serious soul-searching to do this offseason. Next year is his make-or-break season. Time to get it done.
