I just looked through his 4 years, and my stat remains true on both fronts. That how awful Fran’s game plans were. He couldn’t even out perform Robinson during his worstYou must have missed the Robinson years.

Have some honesty. We’ve had just as large classes in the past and no where near 25.It's very disingenuous to claim we have the 25th best recruiting class in the country. The ONLY reason the class is ranked that high is because the number of commits. Not the quality. 27 3-stars, only 3 4-stars, and 0 5-stars. Going by average rating this class is same as usual, down around the 50s and 60s.
Like I get if your a alumani and things like that but your are still a fan and that doesn’t give you the right to attack a man personally lol. He’s having a bad second year give him 1 more year or 2 to figure things out. It’s way harder to run a football team than yall think. I would love to know who’s played college football in here lol.
or . . . at least 11 without the boneheaded defensive call at the end of the Stanford game, which HCFB claims he called (maybe like he said this seasons preseaon competition for QB1 was extemely close).Pena, Allen, Gadsen, & McCord pulled 10 wins out of thin air last year. Could have easily been only 7.
Could have won 12 too. Works both ways.Pena, Allen, Gadsen, & McCord pulled 10 wins out of thin air last year. Could have easily been only 7.
This reply to my own post is to CanadianSU, oldpinepoint, CuseLegacy, ClkWrkOrange, and powdersmack -- I appreciate that you probably do not like the substance of what I reported in my post (i.e., people saying on X that Fran purposely lost the game) [I don't either] but is your "dislike" about that or that you dislike that I even posted that information on this website? If you don't know, your hitting the "dislike" button treats it as the latter and reduces the poster's total of "likes" on their posts. If I cared about that total (and I don't) I'd hesitate posting any information in the future that I think readers here might be interested to know but might generate "dislikes". Just FYI.I am seeing a LOT of posts on X [Twitter] of people saying that Fran purposely threw this game because he hates Miami. One even said he heard that the players were told to throw the game. I don't believe it for a second. But I don't know what to believe about Fran.
I explained time and time again why it’s going to be hard to win here. The RESOURCES Fran can get some good players but fans will need to pony up in the long term if they even want to think about joining the big 2 leagues when the next conference realignment happens. Yes this year sucked but if we can find a solid base and keep guys here I see next year as special.Would you rather have anger or apathy?
Anger is messy but shows there is an fanbase that actually cares and can lead to results. Apathy leads to death of the program.
I disagree with two points -- I don't think the title of the thread needed to be as negative (or nasty), and second I don't believe that starting Joe Filardi (walk on or not, lacrosse player or not) was "clown worthy" as he and the coaching staff may have viewed him as the best of the bad options they had at the time. [And I don't think the comments on here disparaging Joe Filardi by calling him a lacrosse player is the point.] What is lacking of Fran and the coaching staff is to have failed to 1) bring in better backups, and 2) coach up what they have to pay better, and 3) have a game plan that would allow them to be more successful. But thanks for starting this Thread. This is an internet message board for hard core emotional fans. Fran is being paid millions to win football games. College sports is no longer amateur athletics. It is pro sports. Calling the coach of a team that is responsible for the biggest loss in the history of the school a clown is not out of line in any way, shape, or form. I didn’t say he beats his wife or embezzled from the athletic department. That would be offensive.
My personal opinion is that Fran is an above average recruiter - at least for Syracuse - and not much of and X’s and O’s guy. He started a walk on LAX player at the most important position versus the toughest opponent on the schedule. That is clown worthy.
He has had two recruiting classes and has failed to Develop a Competent QB2. He deserves credit for bringing in good QB1 but unless he starts winning, no other stellar QB1s will sniff this place.
He should get credit for being 10-3 last with Dino’s stars (Pena, Gadsden, Allen) and winning the lottery with McCord and Meeks.
Should he be fired, no. Should he be criticized for this dumpster fire of a season. Yes.

Because there wasn’t. They just plugged in Rickie and hoped the band would play on.Did he? Move on? I don’t remember much of a youth movement in the first 3 or 4 games post Clemson.
You must have missed the Robinson years.
Pretty sure we’re going to be the Sarah McLachlan Special on Josh Pate Show tonight it was that bad.It was 28-0 with 5 minutes left in the 1st Q and 35-0 at the end of it. It's a good thing ND called off the dogs as otherwise 140-0 may not have been out of the question. The game was on NBC and national television for the whole world to witness. It's as bad and as embarrassing of a loss as I've ever witnessed or could've imagined. I'm not sure how anyone could truly argue otherwise IMO.
How is He a “above average recruiter at least for Syracuse” when he is bringing in the best recruiting class we have seen in the last 2 decades? That statement is stupid and just isn’t true. This is an internet message board for hard core emotional fans. Fran is being paid millions to win football games. Where was the recruiting class ranked in the ACC last year?He a “above average recruiter at least for Syracuse” when he is bringing in the best recruiting class we have seen in the last 2 decades? That statement is stupid and just isn’t true.
Sure, but those studs heroics made up for some boneheadedness more likely than the opposite. & the coaching blunders are a constant.Could have won 12 too. Works both ways.

What can ya do??It’s OK. We’ve only lost 39-11 on average for each of the past 7 games. Everything is totally cool.
We are painfully slow and non athletic on defense. That is probably true but it’s still malpractice. You simply can’t do that at this level and you definitely can’t make it public. And the defense was not a lost cause if the coordinator knew what he was doing.
Last year was a average class yes but what rank nationally is this years?Where was the recruiting class ranked in the ACC last year?
Thank you for the Marrone binder comment. Cracked me up!“13 wins in his first two seasons…
We are Syracuse University — not a blue blood, not a cash-printing SEC titan, not a program with a conveyor belt of five-stars. So let’s put Fran’s start in perspective by comparing him to our past coaches:
- Dino Babers: 8 wins (4 + 4) — had HC experience
- Scott Shafer: 9 wins (7 + 2)
- Doug Marrone: 12 wins (4 + 8) — no HC experience
- Greg Robinson: 5 wins (1 + 4)
- Paul Pasqualoni: 20 wins (10 + 10) — inherited loaded rosters
- Dick MacPherson: 8 wins (4 + 4)
- Frank Maloney: 8 wins (2 + 6)
- Ben Schwartzwalder: 10 wins (5 + 5)
Fran Brown: 13 wins (and a 10-win season already — one of only a handful in program history).
He has the second-most wins through two seasons of any Syracuse coach since WWII not named Paul Pasqualoni.
People keep crying, “But he had no head-coaching experience!”
Cool. Neither did Saint Dougy when he walked in the door. I guess that was magically okay because he carried binders or something.
This program is already better than it has been for most of the 21st century. The recruiting is better. The energy is better. The overall feel is better.
But sure — the galaxy-brain solution is to toss him out after Year 2 like yesterday’s trash.
**Brilliant. Truly visionary stuff.
