Fran's Holiday Bowl Press Conference | Wash St

I think if you want to remain part of the SU family, it matters.
Some players, like Marvin Harrison, graduate and never care about us again.
Others, like Donovan McNabb, Dwight Freeney, and the Jones brothers are proud to visit and be part of the team going forward. There are many more of these than you might think compared to never thinking about us again.
Again, if SU is in your rear view mirror for good, you dont care what Coach Brown thinks and whether this goes against DART.
Sean Tucker no longer family?

Sean Tucker no longer family?
That Dude was dealing with an injury and an undisclosed heart problem.
I think we could all see he had some injury throughout the year.
Anyone with a legit ongoing health issue deserves a pass.

Besides Sean was before DART.
Babers might have encouraged his players to do whatever they wanted and damn the team.

GOOD! And I love him for it. I was accused of being "selfish" for this very same mentality the last few years on here. Fran is old school and it's glorious.
The only thing is to keep in mind is while at Georgia noone opted out because they were always in the playoff. Im hoping he can keep a lot of these guys engaged and they want to play

I don't know why, but with the Holiday Bowl and all, I was hoping Fran rolled into the presser with an elf hat on...

While I agree with what Fran is saying, at the same time if you are kid who is leaving do you really care? Whether portal or opt out. Not like they are staying around. Especially when you have only been with Fran for less than a year. Also the younger generation tends to be anti social. I am sure meeting with Fran is person would give anxiety.

So what Fran is saying is the right way to do it. But at the same time I don't think it really matters to the kids leaving.
Never burn bridges ever

Qdawgg you know I like you, one of my favorite posters.

But we couldn't disagree more with this. Fans should want the players to play, it's what fans do. Can we drop the narrative that bowl games are ticking time bombs for injuries.. how often has that even happened to would have been NFL draft picks?

David - you are my favorite poster!!!

I want the players to play but I can also understand if they choose not to. If I had a job offer out of college that would pay me millions of dollars a year or at least a lot more than any other job and would still get my degree. But then had an opportunity to do one more thing that had the slightest chance of preventing me from taking the job offer……. I’m taking the job offer and not risking anything at all. That’s just me.

if thats the case, why play any games at all. Once you know you are on the draft board, just shut down mid season.
I don't want that kind of selfish, yes selfish, player on my team.
If the game has any kind of meaning, and I don't mean lower tier bowls like the Fenway and Detroit bowls and awful Boca Raton bowl, the players have the responsibility to play the game.
Maybe that makes me old school but I am 100% with Fran on this.
And I am glad he said it so plainly.

I’m old school and trust me, NO old school guy in a position of power and making money would EVER risk that. That’s how they got to where they were. Especially those “old school” guys. They loved everyone else to have the risk though.

Certainly. And as a frosh. He is visiting Miss this weekend. Not like the old days where our guys were vising OCC after leaving us.
Right. I’m not going to knock the kid. If he’s leaving it’s because he’s getting paid more and we’re prioritizing money elsewhere.

Actually, not true.

Professional soccer has been this way for ever.

Players worth millions $$$$ to their pro clubs are regularly released to play in matches for their home country team for regional tournaments and world cup qualifying, etc. It's called international duty.

Players get injured playing on international duty all the time and are subsequently also injured when they return to their pro club.

There's a whole insurance industry built around insuring them and their clubs if the player gets injured on international duty.

Obviously, not exactly apples and oranges since we're talking about college players that have yet to be drafted professionally, but I thought I read that some sports agencies are insuring players for bowl appearances now and sanctioning them to play with the player and the agent getting a payout if the player is injured in a bowl. I do not know for sure however. It was something I read in passing somewhere, but I really don't know if it's occurring with any frequency at this point.

You are correct. For me the big difference is those professionals are making millions playing for their national team, so really it’s like a secondary job but bigger than that, they’ve already made it. They are “in” the league where they are making the big contract that’s guaranteed.

College football players aren’t.

I assumed when Kyle said he wanted to see where we ended up that he would have sat out if we dropped below the Gator. Everyone assumed that their disappointment in going not going to Jacksonville would translate to the players. I'd rather go to San Diego than a 5th tier city like Jacksonville.
Not to re-litigate this… but I don’t think we “dropped” below the Gator Bowl.

My understanding is that tier I bowls all have equal say and rotate top choices annually. It’s a fair assumption that Pop-Tarts was 1, Holiday was 2, Gator was 3 this year based on the order teams went.

OMG!!!! I was writing on my phone and I swear that is not what I meant to write. The “not” should NOT be there. Changing it now.

YOU ARE MY FAVORITE POSTER!!!!
I believe you my good man!

If you are Kyle McCord and have never personally played in a bowl game, not a first round pick currently, and have the opportunity to set all time ACC records etc.

Like why in the heck wouldn’t you play?!

Life’s short, this is his last CFB game and it seems like he realizes that. Happy to see him playing, it’s the right thing to do for all parties and most importantly for him. (In my opinion)
McCord would jump out of a plane without a parachute for Fran. I think Fran would for him too.

The rest of the team I’m sure didn’t need any convincing once that precedent was set.

Honestly OG3 is the only one I wanna see take hard pass and get drafted high. That will do more for Cuse than him playing the bowl. It’s all about the S!

Best of luck. I lost my dog General close to 40 years ago and think of her often. I said that when I get to heaven, I hope to see my family yes, but I really want to see my dog General
It’s hard for non-dog owners to understand the psychological bond owners have with their dog. It comes from their unconditional loyalty. I had terrible grief after losing my first dog. My other dog was effected as well. I ended up getting another puppy later on and that helped a lot, but I still think of him often.

Herbie’s story with his dog Ben really got me. Having him show his emotion on game day the following day really softened me up to him. I never disliked him to begin with but between that and recent Syracuse mentions, he has a fan in me.

Herbie is really growing on me after him being the lone warrior to pick cuse over Miami, and now putting more love on cuse! Lol. I seriously have always respected Kirk, he is a great commentator and does amazing on game day. Now it appears he is partial to the Cuse and Fran! Only helps
His ability to jump up and crush NFL games while being the top college color guy is absolutely wild.

I meant that Kyle would have guaranteed sat if we dropped below the Gator. The Holiday is objectively a better bowl, just stupid it has the Pac tie in still. The consensus here is that because the board was mad over San Diego that obviously the team would look down on it, too.
