Freeh Report confirms the worst

Another one, from Mike McCann, a Sports Law Professor:

Penn State might also take a similar position in dealing with the NCAA, which is investigating whether Penn State lacked institutional control. There has been much debate as to whether the NCAA should punish Penn State, but it is clearly authorized to do so and could even impose the "death penalty," whereby the Penn State football team would be shut down for at least one year. Articles 2.4 and 10.1 of the NCAA constitution command ethical conduct on behalf of coaches and others associated with athletic programs, and 2.4 expansively states, "These values should be manifest not only in athletics participation, but also in the broad spectrum of activities affecting the athletics program."

Article at http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/20...-penn-state-reaction/index.html?sct=cf_t11_a0. It's a good measured take on the situation.

When I first went to visit Penn State, I made it a point, and was proud to see a hint of Orange paint remaining on the lion from the escapades of certain Orangeman fans- and board members later on- at the statue.

Someone needs to paint that lion black. I'll be in State College next week but haven't been an active vandal in 25 years.

Active vandal. Now that's funny.

I stopped reading the report half way through because I could not stand any more. It is really inconceivable that four of the most powerful university officials could be so. well... corrupt.

To be fair, it is commendable that PSU hired Freeh to do this exhaustive report. I conceive that it could be any worse and PSU did the right thing in getting it all out.

I also don't see how the NCAA can ignore this and not assess severe sanctions of some kind.

PSU did not comply (or even try to comply) with the Clery Act (reporting of sexual abuse on campus) and they face discipline from the Department of Education.

It is time for Penn State to quietly take down that statue.
"Getting it all out"is not what Penn State officials want. It further condemns them when a trustee Athony Librano is still trying to absolve the school and Joe Sue the hell out of that school.and the individuals involved personally.:blah:

amazing...

The handful of students and alumni that gathered in Penn State's student center this morning to watch the release of the Freeh report live were stunned when the channel suddenly switched.
While most of campus was still sleepy, the small group was viewing CNN on a large screen, or one of several smaller screens nearby, in anticipation of the 9 a.m. release of the report on the sex abuse scandal that has gripped the school.
Most were hoping that the report, part of a seven-month probe by former FBI Director Louis Freeh, would exonerate legendary football coach Joe Paterno.
But, just as an anchor was ready to speak about the report, the television screens suddenly went blank. They then turned to a public access channel featuring a reporter from The Morning Call newspaper in Allentown about the state budget.
Everyone watching suddenly went scrambling to find a way to switch the channel back at the student center, known as the HUB-Robeson Center Facility, or simply, "the Hub."
"Is this some kind of conspiracy?" asked Mary Krupa, an 18-year-old freshman from State College, Pa.

alright then, go ahead and give the order.

i then would expect every single hoop team that JB has lined up non-con to tell SU to go to hell, as they wont be playing them either. followed by every football team on the future schedules.

SU clearly shouldnt be throwing stones in this glass house.
no we can throw the stones if you choose, but,i hope we the fans are not cultists n and if the worst comes to su due to substantiated charges so be it and we do not look for rationalizations as the psu cultists do. this was catestrophically awfull for the victims, and i trust that su and the community at large would respond much differently than what we have seen from psu including eriksen's comments.
