Freeman might not

He will run away, like anyone else who will offer the most money. That’s the only thing that counts. Playing time, coaches, style of play or conference affiliation, means nothing. It’s only $$$$$! If you think differently, you’re kidding yourself.
, you could pay me 7 figures, and I’d rather be a bum on the street than kiss the asses of these kids. I don’t care if Autry fails with wins.

He’s a great guy, and it’s an impossible system.

If he's " running away" it isn't because of Autry. It's because the people on this board and the rest of the fans didn't pony up enough to keep him here. In other words, it's yours and my fault.
I'll start donating to basketball NIL when I feel like I won't be setting the money on fire. There's no point when I have no faith in the coaching staff.

Does anyone think he’s coming back THIS year? lol. Day to day!
He's been day-to-day for 2 weeks. It's more like week-to-week. During Tuesday's game, Matt Park said Donnie did no activity at Monday's practice, not even riding an exercise bike. He's still wearing a boot. This does not seem like it's day-to-day. Rumor is it's a foot stress fracture. The rest of the season is clearly in jeopardy. His agent might just shut him down.

He's been awful compared to the other hyped and highly ranked freshmen this draft class looked amazing and 10 deep of really good NBA players. Donnies been a bust compared to them.

He's probably good enough that he doesn't have to drop down a level to be guaranteed 30-35 mpg but if he goes to somewhere like Kentucky he could end up very upset about his role.

Red has been awful developing guys Judah was a sure thing first round pick when he came back that summer.

HOLY REVISIONIST HISTORY, BATMAN!!!!

In no alternate universe was Judah ever a sure thing first round pick.

Period. Full stop.

Judah was told by NBA scouts he needed to improve his playmking and outside shooting.
Because they had zero interest in a wiry 6’3” shooting guard who can’t shoot.

So he came back and promptly started jacking up more 3’s at a lower percentage, while his assists went down.

See for yourself:

How many times did Judah stand around jawing at the refs for not getting a foul on one of his flops,
while the opponent went down the floor 5-on-4 for an easy score?

He was NEVER first round material.

Lets throw money out and lets just pretend that Syracuse can pay Freeman the same as any other school in the nation false but whatever.

If you were Freeman and were hoping to win big, play in March, and develop your game to get drafted in the first round. Why would you come back to Syracuse? Serious question. Why? You can't have any confidence that those things will happen.
I think this is spot on. He has to come back for another year because he is not making the league next year. He's got one more year to show he's got first round game. Why would he trust that to happen here?

Mostly agree.

Everyone needs to stop torturing themselves with who could be leaving, etc. Here is how i approach ALL college athletics now.

Every single player is a one year free agent. Everyone. If they stay 2 years great. If they happen to stay 3 years even better. Noone is staying 4 years anymore. This is reality and you are fooling yourself if you think otherwise.

I never get attached anymore to players. Its never ever ever going to be like it was so we just have to hope for the best.

I dont know how anyone can get into college coaching in todays world. Its just awful what these coaches have to go through year in and year out.

I think Red was describing college basketball and SU's general situation, not Donnie Freeman's desires. Because we can't compete with the top $$$ schools in the portal, we're going to traditional recruiting and try to use our money to keep the players we have as they mature. Naturally, people are using the statement to start rumors about Freeman and criticize Red.

I’ working on the assumption He Gone. First one to the portal. Season went up in flames, and with it his draft stock. Now he’s injured and allegedly might shut it down. Probably lame duck head coach. No where close to tournament. Next year very well might be worse if transfers dont want to come here after this year. Another program will offer double or triple the NIL and pretty much guarantee he’ll play in the tournament and will show track record of draft picks.

Now, if he stays, I will give lots of credit to Red for keeping him. Maybe credit to Melo/Kiyan and his friend Sadiq too. Luckily this year I’ve finally joined my orange brethren in the state of apathy about the program…until they show theyre serious at least…so I won’t stress.

College sports is complete chaos with a ludicrously stacked deck against anyone who isn’t in the SEC and B1G.

Pro sports is far more sane and competitively balanced. Like FAR more.

I agree that it’s not worth getting too wrapped up in college sports anymore. People who want to be invested and care should do that with pro sports.

What a world, right?

Freeman would certainly get drafted late first or second round - most likely 2 round but his size and physique could get him late first - regardless, he is going to the G League - if he transfers there is no way way he is guaranteed huge mins - if he stays at Cuse he plays 35 mins and if he proves he’s a stud he gets drafted Top 20 - throwing portal money in complicates the situation for us - i personally think he best option is stay with us and team up with White and Melo - we are a PG away from being pretty decent

I agree, especially what you say about the B1G and the SEC. I think those school's fans are still heavily "invested" in their programs. I'd have a hard time believing in Alabama or Mississippi, Ohio and even in Michigan, depending on how the Lions seasons ends up, that they are never not going to be big college fans of State U. that regularly sell out 80, 90, 100,000 seat stadiums. Pro sports will always take 2nd fiddle.

Go live or work in those states. In Michigan, many people are alums of UM and MSU. In PA, especially western PA, they are likely to be PSU or Pitt alums. Ohio is a no brainer. I've never lived or worked down south, but you know it's a religion.

These people don't care about pro sports, unless their local team goes on a hot streak. NY is a fractured state. We have no big State U to root for. It's Syracuse or Bust and lately it's been bust. And even if Cuse was top ten in football and basketball, the average downstate Joe isn't coming up to Syracuse to watch a game, unless he's an alum and then it might be once a year at the very most.

Syracuse will always be at a huge disadvantage. Smaller, private school. Less alums. Less public funding. The President of the US and the Governor of NYS both went here and the school did nothing to capitalize on that.

Every mock leading up to that season had him in the first round. Then the season started and he quickly fell out of all of them.

Yes falling over every possession and crying for fouls non stop hurt his draft stock.

Every mock this past summer had Donnie somewhere in the first round. He's not in any of them at this point.

Just listened a few times to see if I missed something. These guys all get calls, there's no tampering rule that's real. JJ and Bell got calls and offers for more. It actually is just the way it is.

Made me think of this...

Different situation Maliq should 100000% take the money he was never going to make it to the NBA so he should take all the money he could get. Maliq wasn't the prospect Freeman was right? Maliq wasn't projected to be first-round pick before he step foot on Syracuse campus.

Maliq at Syracuse - Not a big bag. Not winning big. No tournament. No NBA prospects

Maliq at Duke - Big bag. Winning Big. Yes Tournament. No NBA prospects.

So I think Maliq improved his situation right?

:)

Y'all are gonna feel like dweebs next season when Freeman's wrecking the ACC, averaging 20 and 10, and taking us to the Final Four.

Shut up.

No, you shut up.

Shut it.
Based and orange pilled

Which is why the best player from last year’s team who stayed in college is on Duke’s bench now. Autry built his team around a transfer combo guard and a very 1-dimensional SF. And they’ve been predictably underwhelming on one of the worst SU teams in 50 years.
