Freshman DT's

Any word on how Harvey and Samuels are progressing? Will they be ready to contribute next year?

Wayne Williams was standing next to them one game right in front of me - actually there are 5-6 similar guys (must be OL or DE types) that hang out together on the sidelines.

What I was surprised about is that Big Wayne didn't seem so big next to them. I don't rightly know how athletic this next group of guys are but they pass the look test. I was going to print a list off of SUs website and see if all these big uglies were this year's crop of freshmen.

They're big, both 6+ and 300+. If I recall, Samuels looked enormous in some of the preseason camp vids.

We really need another body in the rotation on the interior DL right now. They must not be fully ready if they haven't been put into the mix. If Raymon can start contributing in the next couple weeks, we can probably tough it out to the end of the year. Still curious about whether they are simply too green, or if we're trying to preserve redshirts based on a cost/benefit analysis.

Next years D-line looks extremely good! Raymon, Williams, Harvey, Samuels and I think Cross will gets some run on the inside, with Johnson, Thompson, Slayton, Simmons and the 2 freshman coming in we look set on the D-line.

Raymon has another year?

Harvey and Samuels were raw as could be coming in here. They are both redshirting this year, bulking up and learning how to play the position from Timmy Daoust (who is a great DL coach IMO). The tea leaves say that they are progressing, but are still a year or two away from making contributions. Both have big, wide frames and should end up bigger than Brom.

They love this Cross kid that is coming in.

Yesterday's article from syracuse.com about Cross transferring high schools was disconcerting. Hope something strange isn't afoot.

Thanks for the info. Hoping that they are only a year away from making a contribution, because otherwise I think we might need to go JUCO immediately. Who's going to play next to Williams/Raymon next year?

Coleman, Raymon and Johnson will be back next year as well.

Are Williams and Raymon going to play at the same time, tho? Not sure that Coleman or Johnson are natural at DT. Would rather see Johnson and Simmons/Slayton at end and someone beefier in the middle. What's your take on Coleman, and Johnson's play inside?

I don’t know what to make of it either but they’re moving nowhere near where they were – gotta be 50 miles or more - so it might just be for a parents job. I think the place they’re moving is more affluent, Duluth (north of Atlanta) its Gwinnet County but right next door to Alpharetta, Johns Creek, Cumming and Forsyth/Hall Counties. Cumming/Gainseville is where my cousins are.

Douglasville is about 20 miles west of Atlanta and I don’t recall that being too nice an area.

That's actually encouraging to hear [versus he's just transferring to a different HS in the same city--which usually can be a sign of trouble of some sort].

The HS he is transferring into is one of the best in the state, and the surrounding area is a suburban family-friendly dream. The family is taking a huge step up by relocating. The HS he is transferring from is not so highly rated, 6/10 on the greatschools.org site.
