Syracuse, Notre Dame, and USC have student ticket policies similar to those at BC. At Syracuse, season tickets for football cost $99, while basketball season tickets cost $160. Syracuse also offers a package deal for both season tickets with a $40 discount. USC charges $155 for football season tickets, but does not charge for men's basketball. Notre Dame's football season tickets cost $210 and basketball costs $65, but hockey at Notre Dame, which joins BC in the Hockey East next season, is free to all students.

The NCAA also looks into the online footprints of athletes — and coaches — to examine potential rules violations.

Syracuse was found to have committed a minor recruiting violation when an athletic department staffer posted on the university's Twitter page that the school had landed a highly touted men's basketball recruit.

The problem was that Dewitt, N.Y., center Dajuan Coleman only verbally committed to Syracuse at the time and didn't sign a national letter-of-intent.

The post, considered a secondary NCAA violation, was deleted within 15 minutes, Syracuse.com reported, but re-tweeted throughout cyberspace before the original post was removed.

Syracuse avoided being penalized for the violation, likely because of its swift action.

Where's Winter? The Storm Team explains
It will be interesting to see what happens with the Syracuse-Georgetown series.

Looking at Thompson's comments (excerpted below), he seems pretty indifferent about it. I don't see him campaigning for it, but if I were him and was constantly losing to Syracuse, I might feel the same way.

But when you read the article about Hoya attendance linked above, you can see how important the Syracuse rivalry is for Georgetown. The coach might not want to play anymore but I think the AD will, I am sure the players do and I suspect even their fans will want it to continue. For the record, I would like to see it continue as well.

JTIII on the future of the Georgetown/Syracuse series:

"There's a finite number of games we can play out of conference. Do I like this series? Has this series been important to Georgetown? Yes. Has it been important to Syracuse? Yes. Has it been important to our conference? Yes. But they’re leaving. So now we’ll see," Thompson said according to The Washington Post.

Wow ... according to SB Nation Nerlens is a Syracuse commit ... phew. Glad that's over. I wonder how UK is feeling now? ;)

Can you imagine how good this team could be if only they could rebound the basketball
Here are some excerpts from How to develop a great rebounding team
  1. Excellent rebounding will give your team more chances to score and give your opponent fewer chances to score. Just one offensive rebound could literally give your team as much as a 6 point swing! This is because you get an extra shot (could be up to 3 points) and you take one opportunity away from your opponent (could be up to 3 points). That's a 6 point swing in your favor.

Bottom line, good rebounding teams usually get more possessions than their opponents. Which means you have more opportunities to score, while your opponents have less.

  2. Excellent rebounding will
  3. improve your team's shooting percentage. Many times, offensive rebounds are put-backs from close in. These are high percentage shots that usually go in. Plus, a defensive rebound ending in a good outlet pass can allow for a fast break score before the opposing team can even set up their defense. Many times, these are easy high percentage shots.

Every great play often starts with a REBOUND. If you're good at rebounding, your team's shooting percentage will go up.

  4. Excellent rebounding will
  5. lower your opponents shooting percentage. By cleaning up the boards, you stop the other team from getting out and running consistently. You also take away easy put backs on the offensive end.

  6. Excellent rebounding will
  7. get you to the free throw line more often and can get your opponent in foul trouble. How many times do you see a fouling situation occur on an offensive rebound put back?

  8. Excellent rebounding usually
  9. means your team has more heart -- and better defense. If your team has more heart, then it is probably going to spill over to the defensive end of the court.
