Frost was offered $1.8-2.0 million (corrected)

The average salary to our assistants was $125k?
Weren't our coordinators making like $250

I imagine the lower assistants are probably in the $140-$160 range

So a little more than 1.5? On top of a coach at 1.4 Maybe 3mil all told?

I can see 850k as a fair buyout after, like, year four. Maybe year three, even. But the fact that he can leave after one season, potentially, for 850k? That's just ridiculous.

He got what he wanted: HC experience and a quick way out to go to Nebraska. Kudos to him.

I think Coyle is smart to say that he wants a bigger commitment. And we deserve that.

So he basically got one helluva friendly deal with UCF. I don't blame Coyle for not making that deal, but at the same time they should have known that Frost was already looking for houses in Lincoln. He shouldn't have been the first choice.

UCF: New head coach Scott Frost says he’s not yet sure if he will coach in Oregon’s bowl game, saying UCF is his priority. His contract at UCF is a five-year deal with a two-year option and worth $1.7 million annually, according to the AP. Frost's buyout owed if he leaves for another job is $850,000. The assistant salary pool will be $2.3 million. Frost took less money himself so more could be available for assistants.

For an 0-12 non-P5 team?

That is a fair deal for both parties.

0-12 this year, but 31-9 with two bowl wins and three bowl appearances (including a win in the Fiesta Bowl in 2013) right before it. This was a calculated move by Frost.

And not for us. That's why we passed.

Probably not a bad deal for his future coaching staff too.
If Frost leaves after two years, you've got a good chance of following him to something bigger and better and more lucrative or you can get a promotion at UCF.

Footballscoop:

UCF: Scott Frost has a five-year deal with an option for a 2-year extension, worth $1.7 million in the first year. The salary pool for his assistants will be $2.3 million. Athletic director Danny White says that Frost was offered a higher annual salary, but wanted a higher pool for his assistant coaches. The buyout is $850,000 for the length of the contract.

He got a $4 million staff budget (including himself) by taking a$300,000 cut. that is a healthy staff budget.

Yes, it was a shrewd move by a qualified candidate and employer. Good for him and good for UCF. Both parties should benefit from a fair deal.

My guess is that if SU hires a current HC it will be $2.25 give or take 250K and $2.5 for staff.

He is smart.
If he jump starts UCF it could by a win/win. Everybody is assuming that Riley will fail at Nebraska and Frost will walk right in - that is by no means a given. It a bet UCF is willing to make. It remains to be seen how well we will hire,

If Coyle signed up to that deal he'd look like a clown.

Is that 5 years all guaranteed? If he fails you got that hanging over you.

The risk allocation on this contract if it is guaranteed money is very one sided, and for an first time HC ridiculous.

I know as recently as 4 years ago we had position coaches making 125K.
I realize in the world of big time athletics that is low, but for a position coach at Syracuse, you can live a good life on that money. This is a problem I have with the system and how grossly overpaid coaches are, not Syracuse in particular.
