My guess is that if SU hires a current HC it will be $2.25 give or take 250K and $2.5 for staff.
I understand your point, but, position coaches rarely last more than 3-5 years. You can't live that good of a life given the instability of the profession. It's not the same as a $125K Salary for you or me where we can bank on that year after year no matter what.I realize in the world of big time athletics that is low, but for a position coach at Syracuse, you can live a good life on that money. This is a problem I have with the system and how grossly overpaid coaches are, not Syracuse in particular.
The results will determine how ridiculous or not it is. We probably would be better off with the Frost deal than Shafer in the past two years. If Coyle signed up to that deal he'd look like a clown.
Is that 5 years all guaranteed? If he fails you got that hanging over you.
The risk allocation on this contract if it is guaranteed money is very one sided, and for an first time HC ridiculous.
I agree with that. Its a tough life of moving around and very little stability. Payment should be higher due to those intangibles.I understand your point, but, position coaches rarely last more than 3-5 years. Another factor is that UCF's new AD White is also a career-climber. If Frost wins right away, he looks better and his pedigree indicates he'll be a strong candidate for P5 AD jobs. He probably isn't worried about UCF in 5 years either.
So after any single year of the contract, all someone at Nebraska needs to do is pony up 850k and he's gone.
He got a $4 million staff budget (including himself) by taking a$300,000 cut. that is a healthy staff budget.
Yes, and from my satellite viewpoint, the coaching search is starting to look like our defense -- a dollar short and a day late. Praying this doesn't turn into a complete CF. We need to start ponying up more money to pay for the shortcomings we're pretending our program doesn't have.So he basically got one helluva friendly deal with UCF. I don't blame Coyle for not making that deal, but at the same time they should have known that Frost was already looking for houses in Lincoln. He shouldn't have been the first choice.
Yes, I know I included his $1.7 million.he has $2.3m for the staff. not $4m.
here is his press conf:

Good point. Frost may have wanted odious departure conditions, but that's the market. Many of the up and coming coaches are in a superior bargaining position. With 15 vacancies, they can pick and choose. With the losses piling up and our average attendance in the tank, we are not the dream destination our fan base perceives us to be. The market's the market --- time to start ponying up.Western Freaking Kentucky's buyout for Brohm at the signing...
- Brohm's contract buyout will start at a larger figure than that of former coach Bobby Petrino (who owed WKU $1.2 million when he left for Louisville), but it decreases in cost every year. If the contract is terminated before March 1, 2015, WKU is owed $1.5 million. If it is terminated before Feb. 28, 2016, WKU is owed $1.2 million. If the contract is broken before Febr. 28, 2017, WKU will be paid $900,000, and if it's terminated on or after March 1, 2017, WKU is owed $600,000.
It would be $1.2M if Cuse gets him...Frost's is ridiculously cheap.
Pony up a fair salary, yes, but we can't just let ourselves get bent over.Yes .. and as odious as it may seem to some, Frost and many of the up and coming coaches are in a superior bargaining position. With 15 vacancies, they can pick and choose. With the losses piling up and our average attendance in the tank, we are not the dream destination our fan base perceives us to be. And yet I was told by 75% of the posters that Coyle blew these negotiations and SU was cheap.
Thank you Mr Coyle for being smarter than some geniuses here.
Don't worry, Rutgers is after him. And I'm sure with all the public money they have to spend and their delusional fan base, they'll pay whatever he wants.I never wanted Scott Frost as HC. I just didn't want us to be cheap and we weren't. I wish the disinformation wasn't given but it was. The idea of hiring Chris Ash turned me into Johnny from the Shining.
As long as we don't hire Ash or a career defensive coordinator I will give Coyle an A. Hire Ash and its an .
I wasn't mad we didn't sign Frost. My concern and I stated a number of times was that Coyle should have known going in that Frost was looking to jump ship as soon as possible to Nebraska and not targeted him to begin with. Should never have interviewed him or offered a contract IMO.
One of the problems is that we are not a destination for coaches. We are not in a good bargaining position and we are simply going to have to take a deep breath and accept objectionable terms or pay up enough to make them go away. I don't care about Frost as he wasn't my choice anyway. We are going to have to accept either a lesser candidate or greater money/lesser contract terms.Pony up a fair salary, yes, but we can't just let ourselves get bent over.
Well again, I'm on the hill overlooking this process. I'm not as involved as some b/c I think talent, not coaching, was our major problem. I would rather have spent $1M on a recruiting guru than go through this meat grinder. What little ground we gained in recruiting is now up for grabs .. and the question pinging me is ... will the program improve long-term, or just cycle through another staff and tank again?Pony up a fair salary, yes, but we can't just let ourselves get bent over.
