FSU Dumpster Thread

FSU trying to hire at the same time UF is? That will not go well. UF boosters are more numerous and have proven to donate much more to get what they want at the minute.

But maybe FSU knows that Jimbo would return for peanuts or that Dan Mullen would love that job to go after UF.

The dreaded "vote of confidence"

They need to fire Alford. He gave Norvell a long-term contract, big raise, and big buyout for two good seasons. Alford is again proving he has poor business decision skills. The lawsuit to leave the ACC, the Norvell and staff buyouts (total approx. $72MM), the major infrastructure commitments that FSU has not funded but borrowed for. Basically, he has mortgages the FSU AD future for a mediocrity. Sure, two really good seasons, but then everything else has been a failure.

Sure, Norvell has to go, but FSU cannot afford to can him. They will likely do so anyway. Then starts the clamoring for the SEC or B1G invite when neither wants him as a partner.

Alford should be canned because he sucks at his job more than Norvell. Then can Norvell.

I read an article a few weeks ago or so that said the Defense hadn't been the same the UCLA coach got fired as Tony was one of the coach's in final consideration and his head had switched gears to the UCLA job now. I'm still not sure what to make of it but there whole team has taken a dump since that big win of the first game of the season against Alabama.

Is fsu going to sue the NCAA to be in the playoffs because they beat Alabama, so they are one of the top teams?

I disagree. Alford had no choice but to extend Norvell. If he lets Norvell go to Alabama, he is off to a bad start. The issue is that Norvell probably would not have gone to Alabama, but that is what the QB agent (Sexton) does... he has a near monopoly and screws over nearly every school by using it.

Meanwhile, FSU got what they wanted out of the ACC. They have a manageable buyout after 2029, plus an unbalanced revenue share system. That is what the fan base and boosters wanted... and they got both!

FSU, Clemson, and UNC are not exactly lighting up the ACC these days either. Be careful what you wish for...

Respectfully, you give Alford too much desperation and too much credit.

Regarding Norvell, he sucked before he was good and had a losing record. If he wanted to pay more, so be it. The buyout was clearly not warranted. Norvell was not even close to a championship nor a perennial power status. Norvell had and still has much to prove to be worth what FSU is paying. If Alabama was willing to overpay Norvell, so be it. Alford was not forced into anything. A true negotiator would have let Norvell go before accepting the deal.

Regarding the ACC lawsuit, he lost miserably, demanding that the ACC let FSU out after the season and for $100MM. The court ignored him, read the filings. Sure, once ESPN decided they didn't want to have their dirty laundry aired, ESPN forced the ACC into the renegotiated deal. Alford has no idea he would receive that windfall and all respectable attorneys who reviews the filings before ESPN forced the ACC's hand agreed FSU had no chance once it went to the federal courts. Some were not sure it would survive the Florida courts.

Anyway, over estimate Alford's abilities, he's still an amateur in the world of college sports.

If a school cannot afford the buyout, then they should not offer the contract. If that means the coach walks, so be it. Or if that means paying more short term for long term protection, so be it.

What I mean by that, is it not better to pay $9M a year for 3 years than to pay $7.5M for 10? One you are on the hook for $18M and the other $67.5M. Yes you are "over paying" for those three years but you are saving your self from being stuck. But if you can afford the $67.5M then no worries.

The way things are going in Tallahassee, will the B1G or the SEC be interested in taking on a floundering FSU program? And it surely doesn't look like Florida St (or Clemson?) will be able to profit from the unbalanced revenue share.

They are both going to do very well with unbalanced because they each get a big rivalry game to move viewership up. No matter the records, those games get watched. Plus, each has a second SEC opponent this year or ND. Beyond that, people just tune in to watch them lose still. At some point, however, the brand might lose steam. Nebraska is the example... Nebraska is no longer must watch TV.

After 7 Weeks... FSU is #11 in TV viewership, while Clemson is #14.

ND is #7, Miami is #8.

Ga Tech is #29. UNC is #31. Louisville is #39. Shows how much winning matters to viewership. Colorado is #20.

Va Tech is #46, Virginia is #49, we are #50.

South Dakota (#73) is ahead of NC State (#74). For all those NC State fans that think the SEC wants them. Delaware is #66.

Of all the teams that the ACC could possibly think of adding to get to #18... Tulane, Memphis, and UConn are not on the top 75. South Florida is #70. I tend to think that FSU and Clemson leaving would open a spot for USF, Tulane, and UConn to get to 18 teams. Or 16, if two other teams left (UNC/Virginia?). The ACC would be fine with 18 or 16. If we still have Miami, we would be as good as the B12. Just a lot of chaos like the current B12.
