FSU Dumpster Thread

The way things are going in Tallahassee, will the B1G or the SEC be interested in taking on a floundering FSU program? And it surely doesn't look like Florida St (or Clemson?) will be able to profit from the unbalanced revenue share.
🤣

After 7 Weeks... FSU is #11 in TV viewership, while Clemson is #14.

ND is #7, Miami is #8.

Ga Tech is #29. UNC is #31. Louisville is #39. Shows how much winning matters to viewership. Colorado is #20.

Va Tech is #46, Virginia is #49, we are #50.

South Dakota (#73) is ahead of NC State (#74). For all those NC State fans that think the SEC wants them. Delaware is #66.

Of all the teams that the ACC could possibly think of adding to get to #18... Tulane, Memphis, and UConn are not on the top 75. South Florida is #70. I tend to think that FSU and Clemson leaving would open a spot for USF, Tulane, and UConn to get to 18 teams. Or 16, if two other teams left (UNC/Virginia?). The ACC would be fine with 18 or 16. If we still have Miami, we would be as good as the B12. Just a lot of chaos like the current B12.
6 weeks (plus CFP and bowls).Let's see where everyone is at the end.

It is our fault. It feels like every time FSU needed to turn their season around, there was SU on the schedule.

2021 0-4 then beats SU starting a run of winning 5 of 7.
2019 3-4 then beats SU to start 3 of 4 run.
2017 2-5 then beats SU to start 4 of 5 run.

Really that 2021 game might have saved Norvell's job. Looking back at that season there were major red flags. They had the 0-4 start which included a L to an FCS. They beat SU, Miami, and BC all by 3 points. SU was the last play of the game. Miami they were down 8 in the 4th Q and took the lead with under 30 secs left. BC got down to the FSU 36 on their last drive.

Where's this ranker data coming from?

This is also why the TV ratings rev share model is seriously flawed. There's soooooo much nuance about ratings performance. Network, daypart, opponent, competition, weather, etc., etc., etc.

A team might be delivering huge audiences on, say, CBS Sports Network, if you control for other games on that network, subscriber count, and competition. But in absolute terms their ratings might rank poorly. Give them an ABC noon game and it'd be much different, potentially.

The whole model is kinda dumb, but the dopes in Tallahassee demanded it. Clowns.

Some link on reddit. FSU and Clemson demanded it because people would rather watch FSU-Wake Forest than Syracuse-Pitt and maybe even WVU/Pitt. The FSU/Clemson game this year may draw more viewers than an ACC CG between Ga Tech and Virginia. If they are the reason we are getting 25% more in revenue, why shouldn't they get more?

Well, people DO like to see FSU lose, so...

Finally, a writer calling out FSU's idiocy.

The ugly truth behind the rise and fall of FSU coach Mike Norvell

From the article:

After spending more than $483 million on two football facilities, FSU may spend another $70 million to make Norvell and his staff not coach in Tallahassee, then spend another $70 million for a new, elite-level coach and his staff to replace the mistake they made with Norvell.

That’s more than $625 million spent on football, or significantly more than what the university could’ve paid the ACC two summers ago to leave the conference if it had an invite to the Big Ten or SEC ― which it never did.

Alford is reckless in spending funds the school does not have. He should be held accountable for his mismanagement of the Athletic Department, funds, and debt. This is almost Rutgers-esque.

Losing has been the way at FSU since Norvell joined them. At 36-31 over 5.5 seasons, hardly the same level of "dominance" as the preceding 30+ years. Norvel may be the best paid HC per win, especially when one considers he is 5-14 since his raise/extension. $20MM over last season and this on means FSU is paying Norvell $4MM per win, at present.

yo be fair...Willie Taggart got that ball rolling. Norvell just took it and ran with it.

Agreed, Taggart started the FSU losing ball rolling. However, Norvell conned Alford into a very BIG pay raise and ENORMOUS buyout.

AD Alford, the arrogant, overspending, clueless one, is being pressured to can Norvell, possibly after the Wake game.

I am no Norvell fan but getting canned now with a $60MM buyout and enjoying the holiday season with family does not sound too bad. There are worse things in life.

P.S. how much will FSU overpay the next guy?

Well they will have too, they are the 4th best job behind PSU, Florida and LSU. Maybe even Arkansas. That assumes someone like lane kiffin doesn’t leave and that job opens up.

Why get into THIS coaching carousel??? Unless there is mutual interest with Franklin.

Because Alford is a not as brilliant as he thinks he is.

Anyway, why would anyone want Franklin? He was at a premier football school, had all the tools, and failed to compete for conference championships let alone national championships. Besides, he was there when Sandusky was there but conveniently knew nothing was going on.

The headline on an article tonight on the Miami-Herald website:

"Florida State's Mike Norvell clings to job"
The article lead --> "It feels like Mike Norvell's Florida State tenure is hanging on by a string."

We're too good for the ACC, that's why we can't win there.

FSU fans are truly delusional.

FSU ended their streak of 58 weeks without an ACC victory. It took the entire BoT and press to pressure Norvell into something, but win the Seminoles did. Maybe, FSU is realizing they can neither afford to buy out Norvell nor pay for an elite coach and they keep him for years to come. However, I have faith in AD Alford's incompetence and they will go week to week with Norvell.
