...and yet FSU says a men's lacrosse team will cost too much...

If FSU adds Men's lacrosse and does not add a new Women's sport of the same rough number of scholarships, FSU will get a visit from the Feds. And FSU definitely does not have the resources to add 2 sports like that.

You were the one that not long ago had SU begging to get into D3 conferences while FSU was going to be the subject of a bidding war between the SEC and B1G and was going to be swimming in cash. (Only a little hyperbole regarding your past comments)

Regardless, a D1 men's lacrosse team usually runs a budget of $500K - $2m. If we double that to cover another women's team, or $1M - $2M, the cost of the new women's lacrosse facility would cover 6-12 years of both new teams. Besides, FSU is now almost $450M in debt, what's a few more bucks when they will be receiving all that new conference money plus post season earnings?

Alternatively, having two teams use the lacrosse facility is likely to double the ticket, parking, concessions revenue of just one team. As it is, the facility will seat 1,000, at $10/ticket, they receive $10k revenue per home game. Being generous, the home stand will include 10 games, or $100K in revenue. To pay back the $12M will take 120 years!

That assumes that the 1000 who attend all pay $10. Do they make students pay to attend down there?
Great point, I don't know. It also assumes they draw 1,000/game and that they get 10 home games/season. Most schools draw in the 100's/game. It's hard to believe that FSU women's lacrosse, which just stepped up this spring to D1 will draw 1,000 fans for each home game.

Most schools do not host 10 games annually. SU women's lacrosse has 8 home games and men's lacrosse has 7 home games.

I was trying to be generous, far more generous than AD Alford and FSU deserve.

Penn State put 700 million into Beaver stadium and the 535 debt stares in 2026 from it.
They have a real plan to pay it back unlike FSU lol.
Glad you cleared that up. My first thought was whether PSU was going full Rutgers. PSU knows you NEVER go full Rutgers. They do enough other bad things at PSU, no need to add full Rutgers to the list.

It's nice to see that they're putting something into Beaver for a change. It's a good step.

I think they've got a sugar daddy paying for it. A few years ago, there were rumors that a sugar daddy was going to fund both teams, with funding for the men's team contingent on their getting their Title IX numbers to work.

Sugar daddy makes it sound cheap and sleazy. I am sure it is a mutually beneficial relationship that neither will regret at any point in the future.

I think not having a men's team may be a Title IX numbers problem. I think the same is true for Pitt.
I believe you are correct. As long as they are going deep into debt and building a facility for the ladies, spend a few bucks more add a men's team and another sport for the ladies to keep in line with Title IX.
