FSU Post Game

Syracuse had their 2nd best offensive game of the season last night by Torvik's AdjO and one of their 3 worst defensive showings (Northeastern and Hofstra the other two) - but most of that, IMO, is that FSU wasn't missing much AND getting offensive rebounds. FSU had their 2nd best offensive night of the season.

I don’t get the “fighter of the game” anymore?

OK - Kiyan’s 2 makes were both extremely difficult drives,
and he had 3 dimes!
plus 3 boards.
That’s all very good.

But he got abused on D as per usual.

Betsey having a career game from 3 -
that makes sense.

Do-it-all Donnie had an amazing game across the board.
I get that you don’t want to give him this award every night, but -
The way he played was the definition of a fighter.

And Nait had THIRTEEN dimes!!!!

Will Kyle did all the usual Will Kyle things:
9, 9, & 3 swats.
Only 1 foul.

JJ had another solid outing, 7/10 from the field, 3 & 3.
Only 1 TO.

Now - if this is something the team votes for, and that’s how it worked out-
whatevs.

tl/dr - get off my lawn. 🤣

Love Donnie. What I think I like most about him is his competitiveness. I think that will keep him from disappearing in games. His motor is much better this year.

We need to appreciate him. He could have left for more $ - he wanted to be here. I hate looking ahead, but he’s going to be hard to replace. Sadiq gives me Terrance Roberts vibes.

If we can cut down the brain farts and stupid turnovers, we can make a run.

Need to nail Kiyan’s butt to the bench if he can’t play within the team concept. The ball and player movement was rocking last night…and then Kiyan gets out there and we get a couple “look at me! look at me!” iso possessions.

Red chose a very odd time to send a message to Nait last night. The time for that stuff is pre-conference. You can’t jeopardize January wins to make a statement with your PG. It’s these nuanced things that make me crazy.

The guy to send a message to last night was #7.
I think white can be a much better player than he is now. He is getting less minutes but he is our best defender and inside guy when given ball down there. Nice baby hook. He is probably frustrated but he will start all next year after Donny leaves. Kid will play in nba I think

Could be an attempt by Red to keep Kiyan engaged and staying positive because he's a poor run of play recently. I could see him bouncing back at BC.

I tend to be a little hard on George, but he had 13 assists last night! His best moment was single-handedly working his way out of extremely intense defensive pressure on the game's most critical possession which led to the game-sealing basket.
When was the last time we ever saw Syracuse basketball player stepped through the double team like he did. I don’t recall a JB player doing that probably did, but I just don’t recall it. It was distinct, well done, and learned

I love Sadiq's aggressiveness last night. He took a miserable jumper early in the game, rightfully sat awhile, and then was amazing attacking the basket. He just needs to shut his mouth when he disagrees with a ref's call. He killed us in the Hofstra game, but fortunately it didn't matter last night. I thought the ref was a bit aggressive with that T, but don't even give the official the opportunity to call it.

We have to have some swagger even if it puts a bit of risk out there of getting a T. The nice guy routine does nothing for us. Not to mention Sadiq is a great kid as is Donnie- just not so nice on the court. That’s something we have to have if we want to keep winning.

He will never be the shooter Donnie is because he doesn’t realize he’s right handed.

Sadiq is likely a 3 yr guy to me if not 4. He will have to improve his handle, get stronger and prove to be an elite defender, rebounder and shot blocker to truly get the attention to make it to the league. He has the athleticism so that part is good. He will have to decide if he wants to be more of a William Kyle with a wider offensive skill set or more of an Andre Jackson with a handle…

I don't think those two things are mutually exclusive though. You can have swagger and confidence while keeping your composure related to arguing calls. If we make the tourney, it's going to be with very little margin of error and room to spare. An unnecessary technical already cost us one game (Hofstra).

I don’t disagree and there is a lesson to be learned on how to control it. Just so long as it’s not pulling back the level of intensity and fire when doing that.

I really liked what I saw out there. Team held together in the first half even when FSU was on fire from three.

Plenty said about Donnie, no need to add more. He is NBA bound if he keeps up this level of play. Loved that he contributed at both ends and took over whenever we needed a play. His block and score at the other end was the game changer.

Kyle does Kyle things, he puts up a spectacular 11-9 -3 (blocks) game including 5 O boards. I was surprised Souare didnt get a few more minutes.

George was terrific, cant complain about 13 dimes, but still a TO or two more than I would like to see. A solid 8 points on efficient shooting.

I was glad to see Red reward Betsy with some of Kingz minutes. Betsy, when open, is probably our best three point shooter, he is big enough to crash glass, if he would do that & get himself 4 or 5 boards a game instead of zero then he could start. But for now, he has to prove he is hot to earn minutes.

Kiyan and White both contributed, but you can see the difference beween frosh and upper classmen. The White T was almost a killer but we overcame.

I like Red's improvement as a coach. Getting better at rotations and mixing up D's. He may not be there yet, but if he gets us to the Dance he should stay IMHO.

EDIT - It should also be mentioned what a nice efficient game Starling had. He has really played under control and within himself the last couple of outings. Great leadership - hope he keeps it up !!!

Did you watch the game?
As someone mentioned in the game thread last night, it seems Kingz starts out hot every game and you think he was productive, and then you see the stats at the end and he is 2 of 7.

Does anyone know if I can find the jacket that Melo was wearing last night at TJ Maxx? I want to get one for myself.
It didn't seem like it fit him well.

If this team could just clean up the turnovers and stupid decisions, they might be able to make some noise. Substitution patterns remain a liability.
What is bad about the TOs is almost half of them are unforced. The good news is that those should be the easiest to clean up.

I keep waiting for Kingz to have a shooting game like Betsey had last night. Like you said, he starts out hot in some games and then disappears, missing wide open 3s.
