FSU Postgame

This team plays too fast. I know Red wants to play fast but this team can’t. They don’t think fast enough and can’t make good decisions moving fast. We’re out of control on defense and offense. We always seem to be in a rush to do something. We are not able to outscore anyone, so if we are giving up 80, we have no chance. Our bigs can’t play fast. We need to slow the pace down to limit scoring opportunities for the other team. We have a better chance trying to score 65-70 than getting to 80. My concern is, can we hold the ball that long without turning the ball over. Our defensive gaps are horrible and teams go to the rim with zero worries about getting blocked or even challenged. This team is athletically challenged both offensively and defensively.
they play too fast ? every half court set takes at least 10-15 seconds to even start. we are going against a fully set up defense every possession

Bell hitting some shots was nice. About time. He made 4 threes which is infinitely times more than his combined rebounds, assists, blocks, and steals combined today.

On the con side, all his 4 treys did was prevent us from getting blown out by 30.

We're just really bad.

Am glad he finally got some shots tho.

Is that a mathematically true statement?

Genuinely asking. I'm not good at math.

At halftime, a friend texted me and asked if I wanted to go to Monster Jam. I’ve never thought of going to Monster Jam, but I knew what was going to happen in the 2nd half so I attended Monster Jam. I’m happy I went to Monster Jam which means this is officially rock bottom.

I stumbled onto the game today, I didn't know when or who we were playing. I turned it on and was excited that we were only down 57-53. It didn't take long before I was reading stuff on my phone and barely paying attention.

I didn't even think to post anything about it, until hours later out of boredom.

Suffice it to say, unless they get rid of Red this is the level of indifference I'll have until he earns it back. Last year I was closely watching for improvement and effort. Now I don't even know who or when we're playing.

Fire him, don't fire him, I don't really care. A new coach will get my attention automatically, though.

Seeing them live, we just aren't good.

Any good moment is washed away by something bad - some turnover or missed assignment or rushed possession.

Just too many mistakes. There was a sequence w Carlos where he had like 3 turnovers back to back. A 4 point game became a 9 point game.

W Donnie its the lapses on defense & deer in the headlights moments on 50 50 balls. The FSU kids were his body type too, but a lot tougher & more aware.

There is a lack of motion on offense & reliance on one on one play.

On the positive side, it was nice to see Bell hit some shots, Petr fighting for every loose ball, & JJ back in action.

We were OK when we settled the ball a bit & tried to get good shots. We just didn't do that enough. After some initial motion, players would stagnate & someone would take it upon themselves to force a shot. Usually a shorter SU player on a taller FSU player. Every shot for us was hard. For FSU, their shot attempts were largely uncontested.

One thing that maybe doesn't show up on TV is Red having to direct people to the right spot. There was a moment where he spent about 10 seconds trying to get Petr in the 'right' spot on an inbounds play. P seemed really confused. Ultimately didn't matter bc the play broke down immediately and we barely got it in.

I hope things work out for Red next year, but I just don’t see it. I cannot tell what kind of program he is even trying to build.

Monster Jam live is actually quite electric. You made a great choice

Monster Jam is an experience. Like another world.

Not sure we can play slow though because our PGs can't get us into a set, whatever set we are running if any.
Agree ...Lampkin can't run the court so by going fast they're basically taking him out of the play or the fast break...Brown could run and follow up misses ...Carlos too small to lead break and finish if no one is open ...they really miss Mintz and Brown to go fast

+/- is largely dependent on who else is on the floor for both teams. It is a highly flawed stat.
For the 1st time I can remember (many many years) I didn’t watch or listen to the game and I didn’t even check the score until this morning.
It makes me somewhat sad, but also glad I’m not wasting a lot of my time on this crap team

I love that devo went to the "well theres a lot of new guys this year" as if

1) that isn't entirely by choice from red and,
2) that doesnt impact every school in the country.

Oh, and he can kindly off with telling us we dont know basketball, because it appears the coach doesnt know it either
Best comment. Da base doesn’t understand. He’s right. He was commenting on how the new world of NIL and dynamic rosters is really hard to coach into an integrated system. But no, it’s Boeheim. We aren’t special. Every fan base is largely ignorant.

Was well aware of the game but didn’t bother watching. I actually turned on the Bucknell and Wake games at the start but switched to something else immediately. Just couldn’t do it.

I’d watch if we just didn’t have the horses (i.e., talent) but played hard and looked organized on at least one end of the floor. Neither’s true unfortunately. We look like a poorly coached HS team w/ just bigger and better athletes.

While Donnie was on the floor, his 16 did nothing to help getting outscored by 21.
+and - is a joke. A good example is Breanna Stewart of the New York Liberty. Most games she has the worst + - rating, because her coach Sandy Brondello leaves her on the floor when the reserves come into the game.
But she is among the 3 best players in the women's game.
