Ft Drum Camp

This is a good way to keep players' grounded. They have incredible opportunities (free education in their chosen field of study and a shot at the NFL) while most people are lucky to get into college while paying for it. Working with the soldiers is a reminder that will be with these young guys for the rest of their lives and should be a means of helping to keep them humble.

It would be cool if we hear in 10, 20 and 30 years how current players recall their time training with the soldiers and how it has affected their lives.

what about the poliquin pee gutter named in his honor- was it good enough to get it renamed?

I think of Bud every time I relieve myself in one of my beloved pee troughs at the Dome. Please tell me where I can find Bud's honor trough--I would love to give him a golden salute!

Good video. Has anyone seen a new game intro video for 2015?

Talked to Ft Drum and they said the team will be up there August 17-21.

So if the timeline is the same...I expect the scrimmage to be Thursday, August 20th

I love that we do this but always wonder how it affects our season prep. Ive been wondering about this with the more relaxed NCAA summer coaching contact rules could this trip be moved a bit earlier in the summer and have all the military days be considered S&C and film study, possibly schedule it to have the first practice up there then come back to camus for the rest of training camp?

I honestly don't get the "hostility" towards the time spent at Drum posited by some posters. There are strict guidelines on the amount of practice allowed. When they are up at Drum, they are conducting essentially two a days. The time in between is highly regimented with scheduled team building exercises. I think that the time up there is much more efficiently used than if they were to stay on campus.

Agreed. People need to realize the huge value of getting off campus and being thrust into an unusual environment together.

Just because it hasn't translated to w's doesn't mean it isn't hugely important to building the foundation.

I think it's a cool, unique thing we do, and that's great for a school that does its best to torpedo every tradition we have. ;)

That being said, it really does reinforce the concepts of narrative-building and correlation-not-equaling-causation. If we were a top 10 program you know there'd be breathless national columns written about this time at Fort Drum is "why" we're winning. But we're not that program so it's just about intangibles. Not being negative, just observing how it all works.

I'm happy to hear they're continuing this recent tradition. Great way to give back to the community and also huge benefit to the players in learning life skills.

I think Ben Schwartzwalder would agree with you. He used his military training during every practice and he was without a doubt the best coach at SU, ever!
