What happened to the other $300M?

ETFE roof replacement, which was always the smart more, and some limited updates. Not a $500M white elephant extravaganza.

Decent compromise.

what does anyone know about Turner Construction? That's a bit of news that we haven't heard yet

Turner is one of the largest (maybe the largest) construction managers in the game. They are big time. I work for a competitor, but work with a lot of their guys in and around NYC.

I have always considered the concourses bottlenecks, as they are very narrow compared to modern stadiums. The other major bottlenecks in the Dome are the narrow, rotating door based entrance/exits required by an air-supported Dome and the staircases between floors. Those will presumably be areas targeted for ADA improvements.

Corners are the biggest issue.

When there is a big crowd during September - early October it can get stuffy real quick. I think the lack of meaningful crowds over the past 15 years is one reason it doesn't get overheated as much.

That could be too.

it will be exciting to watch the whole process, really curious on how they'll deal with the roof construction

Replace stairways with escalators and add a couple more elevators?

To me, the decision of whether to include AC or not is tied to negotiations between SU and the city of Syracuse regarding the tax status of the new Dome. I sincerely hope an agreement can be reached where SU can use the facility for more non-academic related events without affecting its tax-exempt status (give the city a cut of ticket revenues instead).

That could pave the way for a lot more events during the late spring and summer. Concerts, camps, monster trucks, maybe even conventions and trade shows. That would also make private business more willing to invest in the Dome: hotels, restaurants, etc.

A new tax agreement is going to be very important. I hope Mayor Miner can handle it. If not, hopefully the new mayor can...

That wouldn't handle the volume. During games there is a steady flow up and down the stairs.

They just signed a new 5 year deal.

Miner was able to negotiate the current payment for services from SU and was the first mayor to do that. I hope sanity prevails in this case and trumps ego. Although she only has 2 years left so this may pass her by.

Escalators increase by 28% the number of people it can move.

doesn't that cover services though? I can see the city wanting some of the revenue generated from events at the dome if the are going to increase exponentially. I think this is why the university stopped doing major concerts there a while ago although I may be misremembering that.

I saw a mockup of the roof around Easter from a guy bidding on the job. He said at the time that it would be that plastic that has been identified and said that he believed that to be the best option. He also mentioned that they could build it without having to sacrifice any time between football and basketball. Haven't read much on it to see if that was accurate or not. He is big in the stadium building world, but do not get this contract. Said that there were a lot of issues to consider with this project

Yes. I would expect the introduction of ramps too.

Watching the local news, Pete Sala said the new roof will use the same roof ring as the existing roof. He also says it will be a lot higher than the existing roof. I am sure the roof will be slanted to stop the snow from building up.

I am worried about the roof ring comment. Hoe that doesn't mean the concourses are going to stay crazy narrow.

Suddenly the folks at the September Opener wished SU didn't call Carrier's Bluff and paid for AC.

Could be ramps instead of escalators. Hoping for escalators.

Escalators are the better option but I don't think they address the ADA issues...a lot has to do with whether the concourses are widened.
