Just some thoughts... 1). State money is on its way to pay for a portion of the Dome re-do.

2). The rendering that was leaked was one of the more aggressive plans that was ultimately discarded. You can't get all that done for $250M. Expect much of what was on it to not be in play. Fortunately, I would bet the most accurate part of that rendering is the dome roof.

3). There will be a legal battle over the school's ability to rename the facility. Should the university win - I would expect the first call would be made to Danny Wegman. Wegmans is expanding into the Carolinas and has eyes on the entire Atlantic coast. It would be a perfect fit for their marketing needs to have the Wegmans Center broadcast into every ACC home.

Agree with 1&2. That's why I said previous this phase ($250M) can't do everything in that pic. As to #3, I would love to see Wegmans involved. But I've also heard Carrier isn't completely off the table.

I've heard the same as Bees. I chatted with someone after the press release that sounded confident that they would be able to get new naming rights. The same person also said they were still talking with Carrier, but they were not real receptive.

I love the idea of replicating Archbold grand arch. The natural place for it is on the Irving Ave side. I understand it wasn't practical to do with an air-supported building but now, it is a no brainer, and it would work well with the giant EFTE arch above the walls on the west side.

It would be grand if the hotel is offset from the facility so there is an opportunity for views to the west. That is where the best views could be, and given it is on the basketball side, where it would have the most visibility. Watching a sunset from your seat would be really cool.

Yeah it would be nice to offset or adjust the location for that view but I think avoiding the shadow and high end suites with a game view are a priority for them and I would expect them to set the building between the dome and Irving.

Interesting project, but the student housing market in Syracuse has to be getting pretty close to saturated, right?

Also, does anyone know if Upstate still owns this apartment building on Townsend street that has been vacant for years? I believe I remember that they purchased this building along with the one to the left, with the intent of renovating them for med student housing. Only the building to the left was renovated though.

Like it or not, here comes the Syracuse University Place Promenade


University Place will be closed to traffic other than emergency, maintenance and buses beginning Tuesday. On Friday, June 3, bus routes will be rerouted to Comstock and Waverly avenues. Signs will direct drivers along the new routes.

One parking lot on campus, the Quad 2 lot, will be closed during part of the project. The lot is expected to reopen in mid-June.

Well, do we really want to believe the University that this is not the actual design, or just sour grapes that they weren't the ones to release it?
Personally I think this may be an early design as it doesn't really extend out of the existing footprint on the sides. I had expected it to as a need for expanding the corridors. It also shows the connection to the Arch which I thought I had heard was scrapped.

This is simply the university making it seem they'll take the university employees complaints to heart. This is a done deal, and SU is doing damage control so they make it look like they are including the university community, before doing what they had planned on all along.
