FYI

I doubt he gets fired today. The more I think about, the less I want to see him fired over something relatively trivial if I'm Cantor. The way these things work, more unsavory information that makes it look like someone at SU should have at least had suspicions would cause another sacrificial firing. If you've already thrown JB overboard for disobeying orders and talking to the press, there's really only one person left to fire. Cantor.

So if I'm Cantor, I want JB hanging around as a buffer for me, in case anything else we don't yet know about comes out. And this has been so bizarre a story, I would be really uncomfortable with no buffer between me and a pink slip, with all the unknown unknowns out there...

What scares me is how many of these trustees don't give a rat's ass about sports? And would vote fire JB just to make a point "academic first..."

Uh, as someone who has the better part of a quarter million dollars tied up in Syracuse University, I think the Board of Trustees damn well better care about certain things more than sports.

Out of curiosity, is there a townie/alumus (or student) disconnect on the forum on this issue? Are the students and alumni the ones on here who are preaching calm while the non-grads are the ones threatening to boycott games or hoping for riots if Boeheim gets fired?

Firing JB has nothing to do with academics. Firing JB would be because the BOT does not tolerate abuse of children and anyone associated with it. If JB knew nothing, he should survive, if he did, he won't. That's the way it should be.

FWIW, as an alum, I think its a good thing that there are members of the BOT that don't give a rat's ass about sports, even though I personally live and die SU sports.

Well, I'm an alum from a family of townies (with the exception of one uncle), and I defend JB. So does my family, as far as I can tell.

What I meant was individuals who would vote a certain way just to make a point, regardless of the truth.

To answer your curiosity, I'm a local, graduated from a University not in NYS, and I would never protest/riot/boycott SU basketball. Simply not fair to punish current players for that happened in the 80s.

This is clearly not a town/gown split; many of the most vocal boycott advocates are alumni. I think there's only one knucklehead hoping for riots.

Don't get me wrong; I defend him too (as of this moment).

But even as someone who has been to ~400 Dome basketball games and whose #1 interest is SU basketball, my preference is that the Board looks out for the betterment of the institution as a whole. I don't want to root for a team that has nonsense or criminality associated with it - 1991 and the Dynasty goofballs of a couple years ago were bad enough.

Haha, he's cool; he was quick to change his tune.

And fwiw, as a non-alum (or "townie" if you will), I also think it's a good thing that there are members of the BOT that don't give a rat's ass about sports.

At this point, everything they will do is damage control.
