Class of 2025 G Alex Wilkins (MA) Portal from Furman

If Gerry runs a robust offensive scheme like, say, UCONN, then I wouldn't have a problem going with Dual and Moesch at the point, but if the scheme is similar to the offense that Gerry ran last year at Siena then I think it is important that we do pick up a player who can create offensively at the point guard position. I dont have faith in Dual to create enough of the bounce or beyond the arc to be that guy and while I like Moesch as a pass first point, he has a big jump and adjustment period to transition from HS to ACC ball. Who knows, maybe the new assistant coaches will be bring a fantastic offensive scheme with them and Gerry likes what he is hearing/planning, but from my meaningless armchair quarterbacking recliner, I'd like to take a swing at at least one offensive weapon at the point.

I feel like a talented point guard is almost vital to any offensive scheme in the modern era. you have to have a guard that can get in the paint at will.

From what’s left in the portal Malik Mack could provide offense at the point guard position

I don’t think he is either. His numbers are really inefficient and the turnovers are a whole other issue.
Not sure where SU is at with Wilkins, but I feel good about adding him with Dual on the roster who really excels at avoiding turnovers.

I thought it was too short, shoots too early.

Kentucky wants Wilkins to play shooting guard, not the point.
Oh, so they are obviously worried about the turnover issues. It could work for Wilkins, but does it affect his NBA prospects if the conversion to SG full time doesn’t work out well. Syracuse could sell what seems to be versatility in their system for their guards. Perhaps Gerry has the secret sauce to mitigate the turnover issue for him….

I’m just generally not in love with him as a player. Too many turnovers to play point and he plays worse defense and is less efficient than Doty.
Yeah if the staff is in the market for another guard and that guard is a change pace type of player as a backup. Then this would be a home run. I don’t think he is ready to run the show at a power conference level yet on a winning team.
