Class of 2022 G Amarion Dickerson (OH) Portal from RMU [Interest Only]

Watching the highlights back again things that jump out that would be useful to use that we lack...

-Looks like he has really good basketball IQ on both ends of the court. Knows when to cut on offense. He attacks offensive glass at the right times not every time. Sets good screens.

-On defense he seems to know when and how to rotate seems to get mad on the court when other players miss rotation which is needed on our team Someone who is a leader on that side and will hold others accountable

-Looks very team-first guy. Teammates fall first to pick up etc.

-Passion he seems to be someone that is very passionate about playing the game and shows it on the court I think that is good and we need more of that.

Things I will have to dig to see more of...

Can he guard a wing player in space? That will be a determining factor if he fits in our starting lineup at the forward opposite of Donnie. Donnie I don't think he will have the foot speed to stay in front of quicker small forward-type players. Will he?

Shooting from distance? Can he improve enough to keep defenses honest at the P4 level.

I agree hes a great player, but also agree with Matt that he’s a rough fit with who we currently have for next season. If JJ was not the shooting guard I would feel more excited about him as a potential pickup.
Yup that’s exactly what I meant as well. No hate on the player at all, he’s legit . But with what we are projected to currrently have it just doesn’t make sense. The money (I know we have a lot that doesn’t mean we should freely spend it on positions/needs that aren’t currently needed as much or more than multiple others)and roster spot is needed elsewhere/for a better fit. We currently have no proven shooting. As you said I would be alot more inclined to Dickerson if we had a shooting guard slotted in that was a legit shooter.

I mean, we also have no proven defense.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

When you watch Louisville this year, it’s hard to say what position some of their guys play. They’re just good basketball players.

The overall highest priority for the team is tenacious, athletic players who can both defend and score. This guy is that and then some

Yeah, that gets us to .500.

There is more to basketball than a bunch of guys who play hard.

Exactly, people are so hung up on "positions" and height/weight. This guy had 82 blocks last season! Our entire team had 83 blocks. And I know people are going to say "but what was the competition like," I don't think there was a player on our team who even left the floor to contest a shot 82 times last season
We had 83 blocks? If you told me we had 15, I would believe it and I watched every game.

Yeah, for real!!! But, Dickerson could be a piece. We need shooting, no doubt, but Dickerson is a talented guy and a huge improvement what we've had from an athletic standpoint. I am watching Florida vs Maryland and I can't say that any guy is a knockdown shooter, but they play at such a pace that they only take open looks. They know how to move the ball and move away from the ball, it's fun to watch. I would love if we could figure out how to play like this. It isn't classic basketball, but it is the new way.
