The idea of squibbing was 100% correct, it was just a poorly executed kick.

No absolutely not, you're kicking off from midfield down 8 with like 18 mins left. Go for the onside kick, if you don't get it, they only get like 15-20 extra yards. After that, I think floating it high > squib, because you can't do what we just saw.
