Shafer when he was hired, "Lets storm the damn ACC"

This is the perfect opportunity for us. We are coming off a road win vs NC State. If we get this win we get to 4 wins, 2 away from bowl eligbility. Better yet, we then are coming home to what will be a BIG CROWD, vs wake forest. I say its a big crowd because (1) its family weekend so that will sell tickets, and (2) McNabb is being honored. More so, if we are on a 2 game winning streak, this will hype the game u even more.

Win vs. Wake then we are at 5 WINS, going on the road at MD. Just imagine if we got that win. We would be at 6 already, and are next game is @ FSU, playing with nothing to lose.

Wishful thinking but I think this Ga Tech game is huge for us. This could allow us to really make a statement in the ACC

I don't think it is wishful thinking. Ga Tech is not that good. Their strength is our strength and same for weaknesses.
Oddly enough I am more concerned that Wake could be a trap game.
And you are right, three in a row and bowl eligible at 6-3 would really make folks stand up and take notice. Could happen!

This will be strength against strength for both ball clubs. I thought we had the edge in the passing game up until last week. Huge we show up, and play tuff, and don't lose in a blow out to a team that just lost 3 in a row. Huge for recruiting, as I know we havea couple of kids in Georgia that want to come here, and playing there, and playing tuff hard nosed ball will send a message. I don't think it is a must win, but certainly a must SHOW for all team.

Win and they will come. I bet Ron Thompson's size and athleticism at DE makes him an X-factor this weekend.

Hoping our strength and depth at defensive line makes a difference.

This might not matter.

Since I joined this forum, I have learned that raking leaves on a football Saturday is a family tradition!
Get a mulching kit for your mower and you don't need to rake leaves on Saturday afternoons. You'll have more energy to raise a glass of your favorite beverage while watching the 'Cuse.

Lot of smart people on this forum!

If this team want's to greatly exceed expectations this game is huge. If they lose it's not the end of world though.

Right. Win it and there's a plausible roadmap to 8-4. Lose it, and there's still a good chance at 6-6 (believing they could pull off 7-5 would wane a bit).

8-4 on its own would exceed expectations. 8-4 after starting 0-2 would greatly exceed reset expectations back in early September.

GT isn't all that great. It's feels more like a game SU should win.

Noone thought we were winning anything ever again coming into last weekend so I am not getting too hopeful. Still, I agree ... 'Cuse by 10.

I think our defense can go toe-to-toe with their running game. Their passing game's better than NCSU's, obviously not as good as Clemson's, gotta watch out for it though.

Our passing game suffered at the hands of a top level Clemson. Our running game was so good out passing game was out of rhythm, though NCState did an overall good job. I think if it had been necessary to pass more, we would have and we still would have won.

I would not be surprised if the offense passes a bit more to keep GATech honest and lighten the box for the running game. I would love it if our receivers would step up and light up the game with some catches and some YAC, too!

I'm getting dizzy from some off th changes in direction on this board.

GT is a better team with better personnel with a better, more established and experienced staff. If both teams play to their profiles this is a 17-16 game. They run the ball and stop the run. SU is more balanced, GT is ridiculously run heavy and try to set up the big play with play action, but have struggled pulling that off the last couple of games.

An unbalanced team fits Shafer's eye and if the run blitzes work and SU can get GT off the field this could set up well.

One caution is that is what they thought they had the right design against USF last year but whatever Shafer schemed resulted in USF having its best offensive game of the year and going for 369 yds rushing and 552 total. Hopefully that is a lesson learned.

Against an option offense if your DT' s can force double teams, and get penetration into the backfield they can blow up many plays. I believe we have 4 guys who can create havoc for Georgia Tech. The group of Bromley, Crume, Raymon, Jones have been getting better every game.

If the DL can penetrate and the backers can read and react well SU should be fine. The problems I see are WR's breaking free for long gains/TD's or not being able to contain the qb on those reads. NCState did not have an athlete at qb, GT does and SU has struggled with that.

GT is going to load the box and spy on Hunt when he does pass. The receivers HAVE to step up in this one and Hunt has to hit his spot throws. No drops and block like heck when you're called too.

I think it will be strength vs strength but also who's weakness can step up or be exposed.

Only for locals. The rich people down state that are sending their kids to SU pay people to rake for them ;).

The best way to beat GT is an early lead. You usually can't run down a 10-14 point lead because it takes you 15 plays to score. We take their first punch, or score if we get the kick, then hold them to punt. We play smart assignment football with some quick scores they are forced to pass, which GT is in no way built for.
