Game 1 Depth Chart / Game Notes | Tennessee

Putting anyone on upset alert is such a crapshoot week one. I want to believe we can beat Tennessee. But truthfully Fran truly has no idea how good we are. You can see things in practice and flashes of talent, etc…but you truthfully don’t know until the lights are on and everyone is going game speed against a real opponent. Same goes for Tennessee obviously. Will be a good first test though to start the season
I agree, but I do like Fran's approach in practice. To make everything as hard as possible so that games seem easy. I am sure most teams approach things similarly, hopefully how Fran implements it makes the difference.

Josh Heupel, when he sees Johntay run past his secondary:

In years past, it has been said that during training camp, the D often has the edge because they "know" what's coming. I don't recall what last summer was like, but IIRC, the D always seemed to truly have the edge. This Summer, it seems the O may have had the edge. So, glass half empty/full argument...is the D worrisome, or is the O better than we hoped? As usual, the truth is likely somewhere in between the two, but we won't know for sure until Saturday. I am (uncharacteristically) optimistic, and you can blame that 100% on HCFB.

This game comes down to how we handle pressure on offense. We also have to generate pressure on defense. Tennessee is to good to be able to run all over the field for 4+ seconds. I know the coaches are having been using more packages sending blitzes from backers and secondary guys.

Last time we heard the O was ahead of the D we had a terrible D and a terrible O

Why are coaches so silly? From a player standpoint no one is really going to be a surprise outside of QB. And in the rare case there is, put that kid listed as 2nd.

Now formationally there could be changes. But in that case just release last year's formations.

Embarrassing by both schools. Thought we as a program got through this nonsense. I guess not.
Look, we can love Fran while acknowledging that HCs in general are paranoid weirdo meatheads and not a single one of them is capable of overcoming all of the associated tendencies that come with those characteristics every time.

I don’t put this on Fran. Tenn went out and said they’re not releasing a depth chart. Fran clearly thought well if you want to play that way fine.
In reality depth chart means nothing the first game. With so many new players even if you had a lineup game planning may be difficult.

Yeah I have got zero issues with this. If Fran wants to game it with Tennessee who honestly cares? Every single position will have "or" included. Go has broken down with RF and others who are likely starters. We know who the players are and we will know Saturday morning likely who is starting, who is out for injuries, etc. This is a

Before this camp he had the swagger and the attitude that he would beat you anyway.
