Geno Thorpe - COMMITTED TO SYRACUSE

because freshman have 4 fewer years of bad coaching/bad habits to unlearn
I think having good basketball players who are good shooters and playmakers/scorers and fit our system outweighs any challenges that the players have to unlearn bad habits. Their basketball fundamentals are already developed. And it's not like Bill Self, Tim Miles, and Larry Eustachy are bad coaches. But it sounds like JB felt having to integrate two grad transfers (as opposed to one) and teach them a new system was problematic, especially with both playing key roles.

I don't think he has a computer.

Funny, guys, but patently false. I just got a message from that fan, Danielle. SHE says that Thorpe is a solid defender but occasionally has lapses. His lateral movement is solid but she wants him to get his hands up more often. Danielle says hi with this pic but doesn't want to post. She's just a lurker. She is enough of a Thorpe fan that she may consider rooting for SU next year if we land Geno.

Thorpe would be a homerun. Him and Battle would be really good at the top of the zone. JG couldn't pick up the nuances of the zone, but every kid has a different learning curve. Not sure the blanket statement that 5th year grad transfers can't pick up our scheme fast enough applies just cause it happened one year. Thorpe takes pride on that end of the court and is a really active defender. I watched him play twice last year and was really impressed with his all around game. Not phenomenal at any one thing but really good at everything. Would rather Thorpe than any freshman point guard.

I think AW3 was hurt defensively by arriving on campus when he did. Get Thorpe here ASAP if we ink him.

I also don't think he was a great fit for the zone. His lateral quickness wasn't good for the top of the zone or covering the baseline. He tried and did what he could, but he wasn't a zone prototype.

No doubt and down low he couldn't rebound because of his size. Still, he was set back by being late to arrive.

Just taking a stab here, Pitt is probably the favorite am I correct? Local kid and all so it would make sense but he picked Penn State over Pitt during his original recruitment, have a feeling this won't be an easy addition even though it makes perfect sense and he would probably fit in great.
Who will he play with at Pitt. They gone

Just moved to Tampa and my wife started at USF last semester. Kind of wish now that I actually checked out a game or 2 so I could've seen him.

We have to have offered, right? If not, it's insane. I love HW and have faith in FH, but this is the combo guard that we need. Four guards, and we are good to go. I really hope it is Geno. We need some good news. Geno, and Marek please, after Tucker goes to the Devil.

Impossible not to like this kid from what I've seen. Which I have watched everything I could find on him. Intelligent, mature, and a family man. As for basketball wise, it's impossible not to like his game. Personally, I love it. He can shoot, slash and finish at the rim, or hit a floater, and pass. His game is very unselfish, so he's the perfect fit to play along side Tyus in the backcourt. While feeding TT, and the rest of the front court.

He can be a scoring PG, and create when he needs to. While also finding the open man, and creating looks for teammates. This would be a huge get. Defensively, he should be fine. Losing Ayala, and getting Geno for a year would be a blessing.

Tough to leave USF with those women down there, but SU isn't too shabby Geno. I think he could have an Andrew White type year, and put himself into the draft.

After watching the video above, I will say this much...

He appears to be a smart guy, who's a team first type. He found an awful lot of great things to say about USF and his teammates, and they were pretty bad last year. He seems like a classy guy. He has the size to excel at the top of the zone.

Whether that can translate to P5 success or not, I don't know. I'm hoping he can pick up the 2-3 a bit quicker than AW3 and Gillon. If we offer him we need to do it ASAP... let him gel with the guys, develop some chemistry, and learn the nuances of the zone.

Cautiously optimistic...

Is SU hiring a custodian who possibly works near the coaches by any chance? Maybe even cleans their office for them. I'll even do it for free, just give me a janitors closet to sleep in. Call me Joe Dirt. Pronounced D·air·tay.

Would love to know where we are at with him. The missing piece to relevance.

I really hope there's some work being done here to set up a visit soon. If by chance we get JT Thorpe would be a perfect fit to round out the roster and allow us to move onto '18. (Sorry iommi... Wasn't replying to your post really. Just for some reason I think this particular post of yours should be kept at the forefront of conversation.)
