Gerry Staff Predictions…

I have no problem admitting I was wrong. Things are heading in the right direction. Hopefully, the player side will be equally as well-conceived. LGO!
I’ll wait until we are a few games in. The Board was very happy with the direction the program seemed to be heading when Autry first became coach, and last year, the portal additions and Freshman class gave us all hope.

All the right things can be said and done but I’ll wait to see how it all is executed and pays off.

This logic applies really to any coach which is fair. No corner has been turned. Seemingly GMac and Syracuse are off on the right foot with staff. More to come. When all is said and done it's wins that matter. We shall see what next season brings.

so, say it comes down to either Blackwell or AO and not both, seems like consensus is AO > Blackwell?
My hope is that AO can emphasis defense, rebounding and interior play on both sides of the ball with our bigs. Also to get through to them the importance and value of toughness and strength. AO will be invaluable if we end up getting a player like Gilhool.

If I recall AO was automatic inside 5 feet also. I think he can absolutely help develop offense as well.

What is the difference between an assistant coach and a player development guy? Aren't assistant coaches responsible for developing players?

The board, myself included, was very naive in that take. Proof is TBD this go around but this is a whole different level of commitment this go around much more in line with actually investing in being the type of program we knew for many years and expect.

Optimism is a requirement for being a Board GM

The first thing GMac is doing that Red didn't was to fill all his Assistant coaches' slots and hire people from outside the family. Two massively important steps. All I can judge GMac on is what he has done, and so far so good.

The portal is up next, which will be just as important if not more...

The hiring of Gerry is starting to trend like the hire of Fran. Not much initial enthusiasm in general here and then the excitement started to build. When Fran started bringing studs onto the roster we all bought in. Between the huge boost in donations, season tickets etc and what is projecting to be an excellent staff, I’m feeling pretty fired up. The next big test, of course, starts when the portal opens up but so far so good

Also in bringing in Brunt, he’s bringing someone in who is both talented in what he does but also with a lot of experience too going back over 20
yrs as a GA and then coach. A combination of having someone who fits the need of being a defensive coordinator type, strong recruiter and also more experienced to balance things out with having an OC like Daly and assuming bringing Lee over too.

I’d imagine it’s an assistant’s assistant. Kinda like how lots of jobs have a manager and a supervisor. The assistant coach thinks more ‘big picture’ about the stuff he needs his players to be able to do. The player development coach works on improving the players’ skills to do that stuff. But idk

UConn has 4 assistant coaches and 11 support staff as an example. That includes 4 or 5 GAs.
I noticed about the same number or more for Duke. There were 4 assistants and then a bunch of guys at the end of the bench past the players. Incredible!

Looks like we're heading in a smart direction!
