Gm job to me is the dumbest job in college sports. A HC should be able to handle along w 5 assts. one of the assistants can be more of an admin variety.

The era of big govt college hoops should end if we’re spending 500k for a “GM”. Spend it on a player vs a bean counter (there’s no trading, salary cap, etc).

The GM job is essential nowadays because of the portal and the high turnover rate each year. Some teams have been turning over their entire roster. A head coach and a few assistants can’t possibly oversee that type of change over the course of a few weeks. A team needs to be prepared when the portal opens, and that requires scouting and research during the season. Coaches don’t have time for that. Gerry and his staff had to do it themselves at Siena because they didn’t have a GM, but I bet he’s glad he has one at Syracuse.

I’m still a bit confused as to why a full staff hasn’t been formally announced. Starting to get a bit antsy on this issue, especially on GM. Hopefully everyone is announced at once on Monday. I’m a bit concerned they’ll be operating behind the 8 ball once the portal opens.

Again, GMac directly stated in the welcome back PC that the staff was not in "limbo" and was already working behind the scenes. He even told you that there would be some familiar faces on staff and some new names. Things will come together quickly once the portal "officially" opens.

I guess I can kinda understand some of the angst about the official announcement...nah. Mountain and mole hill stuff.

More importantly, I don't think we will be "behind the 8 ball" when the portal opens.
