Get Hodgson, Get Melo on Board

NIL is great to go out and get the top names. That’s fine and dandy but we don’t have the budget for that. So that’s where scouting comes into play. There are always tons of kids that fly under the radar. We have to find them.

I’d rather have 4 100k kids that WANT to play for Syracuse. WANT to play hard. WANT to hustle. WANT to do whatever it takes to win. I’d rather have that than 1 400k kid with a big head and doesn’t care at all about Syracuse.

With that being said we have to have a coach to implement a great strategy and philosophy into the kids. Look what Mark Pope is doing with his 100% turnover roster. It’s a bunch of rag tag guys who were never a #1 guy. He has them believing they can beat anyone.

It CAN be done. But the buck stops at the top. They have to make that decision. They have to pull the trigger and say I KNOW things can be better than this. Syracuse fans deserve better.

They were the only 5 players in the portal last year?
You really can’t figure this out? That’s the market. A range of guards with different levels of talent and what they make. If our spending limit on a guard was below $600k, who were we going to get?

Some people are using NIL as a scapegoat, and they're wrong. The coaching is horrible and even with more NIL we would suck, and that's the bigger short-term issue that needs to be fixed now.

But NIL is still a huge long-term issue for us. Eventually we'll get a good coach, but with 2 - 2.5m of booster money and underfunding from the 20m he'll have one hand tied behind his back. Or, worse, we won't be able to attract many good coaching candidates because they'll think they can't win with that amount of money.

I hope SU is working on both of these issues simultaneously. They are so reactive and behind on things, they can't wait to fix the NIL until after they get a new coach.
What a fascinating post. So you can use NIL as an “excuse,” but others can’t?

What is the ball park of our NIL, how does it compare to others, and what is the ground that needs to be covered? We need more NIL is a weird argument when all the data is secret.

Drake is 14-2 with D2 players in their rotation. They've beat more Power teams than us. We have a lot better NIL situation than Virginia Tech yet we have the same record. At some point people just want to make excuses.
LOL, as if Drake could compete in the ACC.

We have the same record as Va. Tech because we didn’t have Starling for three games we would have won otherwise.

He's taking 247 numbers as gospel.
You mentioned 247 earlier, to a post referencing a link from a different website. I don’t believe I’ve referenced 247 at all in this thread.

Considering Drake has a KenPom ranking better than 11 ACC teams they certainly could.

Again we gave a fat guy who can't jump over a phone book more than we cared to give a pg. As much as what Hepburn received. I called this out over the summer that he was going to underperform.

Day2 has his agenda to defend the staff and Red against any implication that they may not be good enough to bring SU back. No idea why, and while the number of staunch supporters is dwindling, the zealots are entrenching themselves in any excuse that SU can't compete in this new college basketball environment and we all should shut up and clap harder.
You have no idea why because you’ve constructed a straw man argument. Our NIL budget is not a defense of Red. It’s the reality of what we’re working with. SU can fire him this year or next year or never. Coaching is still only part of the equation. If we want to compete - if we want to attract a more experienced head coach - then we have to do something about our NIL.

Perhaps Day3 will be his day.

They have beaten Kansas State, Miami, FAU, and Vanderbilt.

They're legit and will be doing something Cuse hasn't done in years come March.

whatever you feel like posting as defense of Autry and SU.

Where does our NIL rank in D1? 150th?

I know you don’t honestly believe that about Drake.

Timelines matter. Lampkin committed early for $500k. By the time he held out, Hepburn, Leffew, and almost all of the portal guards worth a salt were long gone.

Red had a need at PG and C and he tried to get both for under $1 million. It didn’t work, but it seems pretty clear that the initial limit for an individual player was around $500k. He refused to pay Leffew more, just like he refused to pay Edwards more.

When Lampkin held out, we were desperate and he took advantage. At least he’s putting some of that money back into the community.

You keep spouting that as if it is facts but you don't know for sure if we would win those games with Starling or not. We aren't winning any of those games if last night Starling showed up.
