Get Hodgson, Get Melo on Board

Fran knew McCord when he was 12. Hardly a good example. I agree that Autry has to do speaking engagements to help things but it better not be his or any head coach’s ” primary” job.

What does Fran knowing McCord since he was 12 have to do with raising money to get him here? It is one thing to know him but it is another thing to get him a NIL package that is at least competitive with the market so he doesn't have the chance to say no. It is widely rumored that if McCord came back Red had lined up an NIL package of 2-3 million. So Fran was able to get as much money as our entire basketball budget for 1 player? That tells me the money is out there have to hustle to get it.

Believe what you want man. If a HC can’t secure NIL he can’t win. Period.

Lots of circular arguments here

Thinking about NIL and coaching, does anyone believe Red has us “punching above our weight?” One could have made that argument last year, but this year our record is worse than both talent level and NIL bang for the buck
agreed.

if we were competitive in most games and won vs like Texas and only got boatraced by the Tenn/Duke types and we end up on the other side of the bubble…then you MAYBE can go, hey, we did they best we could with the NIL situation we have.

the idea the current level of the product is due to NIL is absurd.

Really? You don’t think the relationship had something to do with him playing at Syracuse over a higher bidder?

If we offered 0 and someone else offered 1.5 mil then I don't think he would have came to Syracuse

Kelsey year 1 just showed us what ripping off the band aid and hiring the right coach means.

I hope JW has the leadership and funds to do it...

Go out and get Hodgson and get Melo on board with it. I sure hope the wheels are turning on the DL.

Do the job, John Wildhack.

Red will always be a Cuse legend which is why this really sucks, but he's assembled a group of misfits and he's out of his depth trying to coach them. The offense is poor, the turnover bug returned, and it's clear we whiffed in the portal.

But the greatest concern is we look completely incapable of playing any semblance of defense against better teams and the effort being put forth is very suspect. I believe the term is "mailing it in". That cannot stand. 100% unacceptable.

This can't be run back unless the powers that be are more than ready to accept more of the same (which I fear they may be.) Hope that is an unwarranted fear.
It's weird being a long-time fan and watching the game on TV. I can't even get upset anymore rooting for them. It's a feeling of indifference? Like I'm watching a different college basketball team, but it's Syracuse? What the heck has happened? Very sad day for Cause basketball fans.

Well then drop some non-revenue sports.
It's not like they haven't done it before.
Remember what a great wrestling program SU used to have?

I am a former wrestler and that is a hot button issue for me...

Imagine having a great legacy coach in Mills who was essentially a pinnacle wrestler and a Magic Johnson or Walter Payton of the sport per se... and Jake calls you into his office that stinks like an ashtray and tells you you're cut loose and the program is axed. Title IX... tough luck... and such...

I mean, EVERY modified and highschool wrestling team nationwide worth spit is coached on the the Mills' Half Nelson series to this day.

The guy was and IS literally a legend... and Jake just kicked him to the curb like yesterday's trash.

OK wrestling rant over.

P.S. Rutgers is really good at wrestling now.

Yeah, I grew up here in CNY, and remember Mills and so many others. I mean, Fulton, B'ville, some of the high school programs were so dominant, too.

I'm just like you. It's a bit of a relief since I know I won't get myself worked up and feel pissed if they lose. My hope is that GM Alex Kline will help us uncover some quality portal kids.

They had the top class because they had 12 transfers... If you look at the average rank they are pretty far down the list.

To put this point home a bit, California is 15th in the transfer rankings, are we really going to say they brought in more talent and spent more on transfers than Arkansas? No, its because they brought in 10 guys and it gave them a numbers boost.

Its like when Syracuse football was top 30 class for a bit, it was only because we had by far the largest class in the rankings and it gave us extra points compared to smaller classes even though our average/recruit was well below everyone else Now they are .55th once everyone else started filling their classes.

Also that site literally says this at the top of it's rankings
On3's Team Transfer Portal Index utilizes the On3 (P)erformance score to measure a team’s production during the transfer process, compared relative against its roster and not a comparison against other schools. This proprietary algorithm determines if a school has improved its overall team talent, stayed the same, or declined in talent during the transfer window.

They rank first because the talent level they had on the team last year was awful and they all transferred out. By average ranking they were probably around 25-30, hard to compare a class of 12 transfers vs a class of 2 or 3.

Extremely brilliant and realistic argument. He wouldn’t have “ came” to Syracuse then.

My wife likes it better because I've given up screaming at the TV!
After 30 years my wife will still ask, "Did they win?" She doesn't even have to leave the room or go upstairs during the game since I'm under control. In fact my kids and I laugh quite a bit more watching the terrible defense and such. Despite the apathy, I don't believe some of the folks on here who are posting that they forgot there was a game on.

Correct so like I said we had to put together a competitive NIL package for him to come. His relationship with Fran made it so we didn't have to have the most money just be competitive.

It's a better argument than Red and the AD facing impossible odds and we need to stick with a clear loser that's out of his depth because that's the best we can do...

...and some posters are worried about losing their insider access with an outside hire...
