Give me your Top 5 NFL QBs of all time, in order.

J. Montana
T. Brady
J. Elway
P. Manning
J. Unitas
Next Best 5
D. Marino
R. Staubach
S. Young
B. Starr
D. Brees/ Eli Manning (Tie)

Follow up...how far down the list before McNabb shows up? Top 20? 30? 50? lower?

I would have Donovan at around #30 all time, mainly because his stock dropped his last few years, even though alot of that wasn't really his fault, but the situation. I believe there was one team, Arizona, who if he had gone to right out of Philly, he may have had 2-3 good years, and may in fact still be playing. Not saying they would have been a great team, but he would have turned them around, and he had some weapons to throw to as well, which he didn't have in Washington and MN.

Here is what I think it is now:

Elway
Montana
Peyton
Unitas
Brady

Here is what I think it will be in 10-12 years:

Peyton
Elway
Montana
Unitas
Luck

Uh the broncos were not a one hit wonder...like that schlub marinos phins...

Is this john Elway?
Hey Joe, they weren't a one hit wonder the first 3 because they had the greatest qb leading them. Name me a pro bowler on offense for those?

I am a huge Bronco Fan, maybe it was the colors! Regardless, my favorite player of all time in football is John Elway. But in reality, he wasn't the best QB ever, IMO. I believe he was the best over achiever ever...especially many of the teams he took to the playoffs and superbowls that hd no business being there!

I'll put Elway in the top 10...barely. But just isnt a top 5er to me...

Eli Manning
Phil Simms
Jeff Hostetler
Kerry Collins

It's late in the 4th quarter, you are down by a TD, on the road, in miserable winter weather conditions. Momentum is totally against you as the winds of Lake Erie play havoc on the kick off and you start at your own 2 yard line. You have but 1 TO left as you stroll on the field, in the heart of the dog pound, with Milk Bones bouncing of your team as they huddle up at the back of the end zone, and you look around and see players like Sammy Winder, Mark Jackson, Steve Watson and Steve Sewell looking back at you (Not what I call top tier talent) and the QB calmy says, "OK guys, we got them right where we want them!", I ask you again, how many guys on that list of yours would do what this guy did, some 47 times, with mostly mediocre teams, and you can't see him as a top 10 QB?

Sammy winder. He also had the 3 amigos and a really good group on d (except against Montana who shredded them )

Use whatever metrics you choose. Maybe you value team success more than personal stats, or vice versa. No ties - that's boring.

Mine:

1. John Elway
2. Joe Montana
3. Tom Brady
4. Peyton Manning
5. Johnny Unitas

Just on the cusp: Dan Marino, Brett Favre, Roger Staubach

1. Joe Montana
2. Terry Bradshaw
3. Johnny Unitas
4. Otto Graham
5. Sammy Baugh

Eli Manning
Phil Simms
Jeff Hostetler
Kerry Collins

LOL. You left out Y.A. Tittle, Fran Tarkenton and Charley Connerly.

He was really athletic and had a gun for an arm, but it took those Super Bowl wins late in his career to make him more than just another Jim Kelly.

I said I WOULD put him in the top 10. By barely I meant probably 9 or 10.

Sounds
I said I WOULD put him in the top 10. By barely I meant probably 9 or 10.

More like reluctantly in the top 10 then sincere is why I made my point. I would have to respectively disagree, maybe #4 or #5 or just out the top 5 IMO. Again, times have changed and it is all subjective, opinion that is! :)

Nice, u named one of only 2 skill position players he had on o, any of those 3 SB years. Not even an uno of the three amigos ever made the pro bowl

Well Montana also won with Freddie Solomon, Russ Francis, Dwight Clark, Jim ring, Wendell Alexis, etc. jerry rice skews the debate. Other than him, Montana and elway had nice players. Just because u make a pb is irrelevant. You don't get to all those Super Bowls without a cast.

Wow, making a pro bowl and having that quality of player on your team is irrelevant to a qb's success? And I suppose Bill Walsh's system was irrelevant as well? One time Montana had 9 pro bowlers on offense, that's a little more than "nice players". No need to continue this debate...
