Give me your Top 5 NFL QBs of all time, in order.

I shouldn't have said 9 pro bowlers at once, but you get the picture. It isn't even close on what Montana and Elway had talent wise. When Elway finally got real help he won back to back sb's as well.

Wow, making a pro bowl and having that quality of player on your team is irrelevant to a qb's success? And I suppose Bill Walsh's system was irrelevant as well? One time Montana had 9 pro bowlers on offense, that's a little more than "nice players". No need to continue this debate...
What year did Montana have 9 pro bowlers on offense? FYI the year he destroyed john elways broncos Walsh was not his coach...next you'll tell me that rice wasn't the best because he had Montana right? Or rice had Walsh? Or Walsh had joe/jerry? Why can't people just comprehend that the 2 best offensive players were on the same team and were coached by the best coach?

Nobody said Walsh was the coach that year, who's system did they use? I'm saying it dilutes a qb's greatness in a comparison to me if one guy has hardly the talent to work with and that another has one of the best coaches and players that ever lived.. Remember we're talking an individual qb on his own two feet. Since we can't compare solo head to head because it's a team sport, a lot of things factor in how talented a qb is on his own. Your last sentence is exactly my point.

Pro Bowl is a joke and should not be used to measure a players talent. Jeff Saturday made the Pro Bowl for the Packers in a season he lost his starting spot and then was let go after the season.

It's what makes your point silly. Montana didn't have the same players or coach on any of those teams. And if my last point is exactly your point you agree then that Montana is the best...

Brady
Elway
Montana
Kelly
Aikman

Peyton would be #1 if we were talking about most cerebral.

I gave my list earlier and the guy Im going to mention was not on it and is probably not a top 20 QB overall but for my money has was the absolute best 2 minute QB I ever saw and that "the snake" Kenny Stabler he was a master at it and his drive against the Dolphins i think in the 74 playoffs is the best drive ever and for my money is still the best NFL game I have ever personally seen

Top 5: Montana, Bradshaw, Marino, Elway, and Graham

Gamer: Unitas, Starr, Tarkenton, Simms, and Kosar

Top 'playa' : Broadway Joe Namath ;)

Wow.. Ok, here's another way of putting it. Brady gets more credit in my book, because he did more with less, than Aikman who had a cast almost like Montana..

Some interesting comments on this thread, but skill position talent greatly helps qb's. The talent surrounding Brady this year is significantly less than what manning has. Does that mean manning is better than Tom. For the past three weeks maybe, but lets not forget about the big moments where certain guys flourish and other guys shrink. Elway, Montana, and Staubach were always great in the clutch. Brady has been for the most part as well. Too many times in the past 15 years I have seen Manning have a dissappointing performance in big games. Whether it was the games against the Patriots in the playoffs, getting destroyed by the Jets in the Meadowlands, or the pick six in the Super Bowl, I don't think Manning has the clutchness the rest of the guys have. Honestly as bad as he is right now, I think I would take Eli over Peyton down 4 with 2 minutes to go. Peyton Manning teams, much like Brett Favre teams play great when they are ahead, but struggle when they are behind.

1. Peyton
2. Brady
3. Elway
4. Unitas
5. Marino

any list with montana on it is a joke.

He was a system QB, when nobody on earth had seen the system.

Bradshaw before him, for Terry at least.... 'I called my own plays!!'

So Bill Walsh should be on your list then? A 'system' needs someone to make the plays.
Hell, Nassib was nothing last year then, right? All Hackett?

I can see it now...1989...10 years in...d-cords scratching their heads wondering "what's this dadgum system they runnin"

Johnny Unitas
Randall Cunningham
Terry Bradshaw
Joe Montana
Norm Van Brocklin

CUNNINGHAM? McNabb was better than cunningham. Hell..even McPherson was better but the league wasn't ready for his type of qb play yet.

Mc
Follow up...how far down the list before McNabb shows up? Top 20? 30? 50? lower?

i think its crazy to not have McNabb top 15 all time considering he did everything without any other offensive players of note besides westbrook and owens for a single year.

Not taking anything away from Donovan, but Randall was one hell of QB for the Eagles besides being a helluva nice guy. I know we (SU) have offered his son and I for one would love to see the kid play here (as well as to get a chance to see/meet his old man). Probably ain't gonna happen, but hey, ya never know...

He would fit in well here. I agree with you on that. I agree that he was an amazing qb by the way..just not as good lol

Well Montana also won with Freddie Solomon, Russ Francis, Dwight Clark, Jim ring, Wendell Alexis, etc.

marino had a great arm and numbers but couldn't ever push his team over the top. the leadership issue alone knocks him out of the argument imo. give me a lesser talent with the grit and drive to get the job done.
equation . bob griese > dan marino.

Yet sadly, they were.

Except for Belichick, who nearly ended his career...2x.
