We all know this.
Children are being sexually abused. For all of its horror, PSU and SU have shone a huge spotlight on this sad reality. It is highly likely that because of all of the attention aimed at our two "storied" programs, some children will be saved. A child might speak out. An adult may notice something. People will feel a sense of responsibility towards the helpless. Someone might think twice. That someone may go and get help.
In that way, PSU and SU are huge rocks thrown into the pond. Who knows where the ripples will spread and their consequences? But I can't help but feel that this is for the good.
I am a passionate SU fan, and feel heartsick about this. If JB knew, he should be fired. But I don't think he knew. Remember the empty spot during the national anthem, and the empty chair? People who have a niggling conscience don't do things like that. Now, I am sure his conscience has been quite niggled in the last few days, as have all of ours. I don't believe he should fired because he spoke in defense of his friend. He apologized. And he has a lot to think about.
