Good court-storming...

There are 3 steps to a good court storming:

1) Get the away team off the court quickly
2) Get the players up on the scorer's table with security keeping the fans from getting up there.
3) Student section only should rush the court and go buck freaking wild

*4) Syracuse fans should never ever rush the court because no Syracuse basketball home victory is a big enough upset to warrant it. Are we unranked and the opponent is an undefeated #1? Don't rush. They didn't have a chance of winning in the first place, don't let them think they did. Is it Georgetown in a last second win? Don't rush. Georgetown should be disrespected at every opportunity and rushing the court would signify that we think they don't suck (same for UConn). Is it Jim Boeheim's final home game ever? Go insane and burn the mother effer down!
is it UConn or UCon??? to me it seems like UCon, but maybe that's just me wanting to label them as convicts...

It's UConn. Conn is one of the two abbreviations for Connecticut (and the one everyone used until the Post Office came up with CT when it invented zip codes).

Interestingly, the NY Times style book still uses "Conn" for Connecticut, and it also uses a number of the "old" abbreviations. It refuses to use the zip code abbreviations.

Got ya... just didn't know if there was a underlying code and dislike of UConn here... aka, UCon... thanks for clarifying...

what exactly happened there at the end. wolfpack was dribbling out the clock and then suddenly there's a duke guy at the free throw line with 5 seconds left. did they steal the ball?

The old fashioned one I always remember is "Penna." Your post reminded me of it. Wonder what the style guide recommends on that one?

Yeah i wondered that as well.

And then it got awkward when K wanted the team off the court, refs didnt understand, then k shook hands with nc state, then explained to the refs he wanted the players off, then the refs understood and stopped the game to get the duke ft shooter to safety which led to a non-dangerous court storm.

PNC Arena staff was walking around the our first two rows telling is the "plan" if there was a court storming. They started having discussions wih about 10 minutes left in the second half. They did a really good job at making sure fans were safe.

ok so i go back and check the play by play.

0:12 73-87 BeeJay Anya Defensive Rebound.
0:07 73-87 Anthony Barber Turnover.
0:07 Rasheed Sulaimon Steal. 73-87
0:05 73-87 Foul on Ralston Turner.
0:05 Rasheed Sulaimon made Free Throw. 74-87
0:05 Rasheed Sulaimon made Free Throw. 75-87
0:0

those duke dooshers actually steal the ball with 7 seconds to go while the wolfpack is just casually dribbling out the clock? and then K decides to go all theatrical about safe egress?
if i was coaching the wolfpack after the fts i would have slow rolled that ball the entire length of the court while they stood by their bench and then jammed it home making dookies have to inbound the ball. imo they'd deserve a trampling after such a dickhead move. sulaimon is a classless turd!

Arena staff did the same thing at Maryland last year. We were in front row with hundreds of excited Maryland students directly behind us. Very large security guys came around, warned us what could happen if Maryland won, positioned themselves in front of us and told us to stay in our seats should a court-storming begin. Fortunately we won the game in the last second... so none of the precautions were necessary. I did, however, fear that we might be trampled had MD won.

Good form by Security staff to make sure the people close to the court know what the process is.

Also - I took a page from Tomcat on that last post. I don't think I'll be trying "talk to text" again.

I would hate to be in the middle of one of those court stormings. Went to the Paralympics with my dad in 1996 in Atlanta. We went in the wrong side of the stadium so went all the way around the concourse and I think all 80,000 fans were there with us. I don't think I saw more than a foot in front of my face for 30 minutes. Ever since then, I don't do well in situations like that.

I'm surprised PNC allows court storming.
I can see a school owned venue allowing what they want, but to me it seems like a unnecessary liability to have to provide security for that.
