I know for a fact that some people aren't going because of the mask mandate. Sure its not a majority of people, but its a sizeable chunk. There is no need for the University to be in direct conflict with where the state is on this...the masks need to go.
Don’t disagree. I’ve had it twice now. I’m fully vaxxed and boosted. Just have to deal with it

I sat next to a guy at the FSU game last month, and 3 days later he tells me that he's sick.

I had to get tested, my brother and his g/ had to get tested, and we had to take our 93 year old father to get tested (since we both were in contact with him).

Every one of us tested negative.

By the way, both myself and my brother and my friend at the FSU game all wore masks.

It's all the proof I need.
Zero doubt masks work (if properly worn). But also think that you probably have high levels of antibodies and/or had it recently, etc. all factors

I think he wants the biggest and loudest crowd possible for Duke, and I'd bet strict mask wearing is a deterrent to some coming to the dome. Personally wouldn't keep me away, but I know some people who don't want to put up with the hassle. Hopefully we can get to the point soon, where those who don't want to wear one are free to do so, as are those who want to wear one are free as well.
That’s basically where we were last summer, until omicron changed things for the last couple of months. But the rest of the country (including NY) has already moved in this direction - time for the university to adopt the same policy.

if you take masks away i wonder how many will stay home for that.. im not sitting in my local arena quite yet without a mask for 2-3 hrs.. even the movie theater i still wear mine because who knows who sat there the previous movie.

I still wear mine at Wegmans, and I'll continue to wear one at Hoops and LAX games for a little while anyways.

I almost feel naked without it.

He can. But he’s been on both sides of this fairly alienating issue. Better to just say “we do what we are told”

JB was on the reopen front pretty early on...

we sold 22K of tickets for a midweek game against a bad GT team in a down year. How much is attendance really suffering from a mask rule? a few hundred people?
The issue is butts in seats, not tickets sold. I was there last night and it was maybe 15k actual.

Yep, it should be a personal option at this point. Those that don't wear one shouldn't shame those who do, and vice versa.

Lost in what JB said was that kids are wearing them to class and at the Dome, but not when they go out.

We play at ND Wednesday. As of today they still require masks. They just recently opened concession stands.

We play at UNC next week. As of now they require masks at games as do the other Carolina schools. You can’t compare universities with the state policy or city policy or other businesses. They are going to be more conservative and cautious. They are responsible for thousands of students that are under their “care”.

There are those who are not attending because of having to wear masks.

There are those who will not attend if the mask mandates were to be lifted tomorrow.

I say the former group tend to be younger, the latter group probably older, more concerned about catching it.

Besides the head count, the masks also inhibit loud cheering and screaming. I put on a mask for an indoor face to face meeting where I had to talk to a bunch of people around a conference table. 20 minutes in the inside of the mask is moist and heavy, just from the talking. Once that happens it gets very uncomfortable, it also fogs up the glasses for those who wear them. You can't tell LGO at the top of your lungs ten times before the mask gets soggy. It definitely mute the home crowd to some degree, on top of affecting attendance.

Responding to yourself again I see, lol.

If you're that concerned about catching Covid, then you probably shouldn't be going to a large gathering to begin with, mask or no mask.
My point was that people need to do what they're comfortable with regarding going or not going to an event. And if you go, you need to follow the guidelines of the venue. Last I knew, basketball coaches don't make public policy decisions for the institutions that employ them.

Curious, How about SC schools? I’m in SC right now and there are no masks worn anywhere, none. You couldn’t even buy one in a store if you wanted

MSG is packed for Knicks games. Looks like 80% no masks.

Clemson removed the mask requirement yesterday.

MSG makes masks required only for unvaccinated. If vaccinated, they are recommended but not required.

There are probably more fans that won’t go if the mask mandate is lifted. It works both ways. That is why JB needs to be quiet.

And if you look around while at the dome and realize half the people are using them as chin straps, you’d be out door in a nanosecond.

Definitely more people not going because of the requirement, than are going because they feel “safe”.

At this point they serve no purpose. The woman in front of me could be eating ice cream at the dome and doesn't have to wear it, but because I am not eating anything I do. It's all a show.
Not no purpose but less. Effectiveness depends on compliance. The more that wear it the more effective . It is pretty simple. Same with vaccines

I'm vaccinated. So is everyone else at the game. I am safe without the mask. Again, when you're serving food and beer it doesn't matter. Nobody is being fully compliant.
