Good luck in the nfl chandler

Ok. How bad did it get at the end of the year?

Obviously I am not going into detail on a public message board as I want to keep the few sources I have, read kingottos post as to what we will be replacing now. Plus there are other players who are considering leaving.

Love that when I posted his tweet two weeks ago everyone called me crazy that I assumed he was gone.

I would imagine Chandler has an appreciation for life beyond college moreso than most 4th year students, due to what he's been exposed to via his brothers. Can't blame the guy for wanting to get on with that.

I suspect a good NFL defensive line coach will get him to produce pretty well.

So we are losing on D:

-our two starting DEs

-our two starting Ss

-at least one if not both of our starting CBs.

-we also lose Fisher from our Okie package.

Our DEs coming back showed nothing this year. And we could have 4 new starters in the secondary. Who are our leaders? Could be a long year on D next year.

On O we lose:

-the right side of our OL
-our starting WR and our #3 WR
-our starting TE
-our starting RB

Our skill positions coming back showed nothing this year. And we will have two young inexperienced guys stepping in on the right side of the OL. Who are our leaders? Could be a long year on O next year.

Add to that a challenging OOC schedule and next year is a total rebuild year. We might as well play two 1AAs again since we have no chance at 6 Ws.
So what you're telling me is that if we're going to have a chance to move the ball at all Lemon is going to need to catch some 250+ passes?

To go where? Sit out a year at another BCS school on transfer, assuming they are wanted or go to an FCS school to what end?

While not a cluster the OP is right, there is more to Chandler leaving then simply the high draft grade. The same reasons Carter came within a hair of leaving when he was a junior.

The players don't like each other, they don't like the coaches, they don't like the fans, they don't like the program. The "life skills" program Marrone put together was run by an outside firm last year but the coaches took it over this year. Not sure they did a great job with it. Anyone who says Marrone didn't lose this team has got blinders on.

I hope DM figures this thing out fast.

So we are losing on D:

-our two starting DEs - Chandler is a good player. We'll miss him. Marinovich? Meh.

-our two starting Ss Both good players. Thought they both underachieved this year. Shamarko was hurt a lot. Hoping he comes back. P. Thomas had a lot of picks and a lot of missed tackles and bad angles that led to huge plays. I'll give you this one.

-at least one if not both of our starting CBs. Kevyn Scott? Desir and Reddish, after spring ball, will be upgrades. Lyn is talking like he'll be back. I'm probably in the minority but I think Anderson, Reddish, Desir, George, and Lyn will end up being a solid group. Young, but solid.

-we also lose Fisher from our Okie package. Fisher? Replaceable. There's probably 2-3 players on the current roster who can play the Okie as well as Fisher.

Our DEs coming back showed nothing this year. And we could have 4 new starters in the secondary. Who are our leaders? Could be a long year on D next year. DEs are a concern for sure. They weren't great this year either. I like the idea of moving a DT (Goggins) to the strong DE spot in situations. He can get to the QB. Again, some will disagree, but we're not losing All-Americans in the secondary and there's talent coming up. We will end up being excited about Reddish, Desir, Eskridge, Mungwa, George, Anderson, Wilkes and hopefully Lyn. In the long run, this will end up being an upgrade. Hopefully sooner rather than later. Leaders? Who were they this year? Teams need new guys to step up EVERY year. It's college football. Your best players are only here for about 2-3 years anyways. Some names though - Spruill, Brantley, Goggins, Lynch, Vaughn, D. Davis, Wilkes, Sharpe. I don't know if any of these guys have leadership qualities. But nobody here can tell me that they don't either.

On O we lose:

-the right side of our OL Excited to see a RT tackle not named Hay. Tiller is a big loss.

-our starting WR and our #3 WR Graham and Chew? That's not Harrison and Moore. Both can be replaced.

-our starting TE Loved Provo. Really gonna miss him.

-our starting RB Loved Bailey. Gonna miss his pass protection. Gulley, Smith, AMM, and possibly freshman can make up for the rushing yards and TDs.

Our skill positions coming back showed nothing this year. And we will have two young inexperienced guys stepping in on the right side of the OL. Who are our leaders? Could be a long year on O next year. Our skill position players leaving didn't show a hell of a lot either. Already commented on right side of line. Leaders? Senior QB has to step up. Pugh and Lemon can play. It's imperative that some playmakers step forward.

Final comment: There is talent coming back. The sky isn't falling. We NEED offensive playmakers in the worst way. The defense isn't going to be nearly as bad as some people think.

If Chandler is a legitimate 3rd round pick he should go, and at this point I have to accept the reports that he is. I'm a little surprised because unfortunately we never really had the chance to see him completely shine (healthy, mature, with enough team support to limit double teams). Chandler strikes me as a great kid who is bright with a big personality who enjoys hamming it up in front of the camera. I hope he's ready for the next level.

Wait, what?

We actually had a life skills program run by a firm? For realz?! Is this normal? I thought that was just a snarky catchphrase, not an actual thing. Do other schools do this so formally?

Honestly, my worries about this program grow more by the day.

yup - that is exactly where I am at. Every day that we hear some new little tidbit from a poster who would know what they're talking about - I get more and more worried. I hate to say it but I'm at the point where I'm starting to think this isn't going to work.

ChanJones99 Chandler Jones

I have decided to forego my final football season at Syracuse University and enter the 2012 NFL draft.
OK Chandler good luck I think one more year ofphysical develop ment with an insurance policy with Loyds against permanent injury would have been better for you in the long run. but its your decision and its the one we knew was coming. We will watch your career with interest.

With the roster we have coming back next year we really should be going balls to the wall on O and on D. Being conservative with all that youth will give us zero shot at 6 Ws. I would love to go back to the D we played when we had Mike Williams. A lot more agressive and willing to get beat deep. Lots of short drives both good and bad. The bend and pray we don't break D we have seen since then will be torture. Same goes for the O. We need to be more agressive. We won't be able to sustain long drives. Need to take shots. You cannot expect an inexperienced team to execute over and over again.

I've never heard of this kind of thing but I think there is all kinds of problems with going to the outside for "life skills" teaching. Its like expecting someone outside of the family to teach your kids how to be good citizens and quality people in their lives. Iwould advise Doug not to get into that garbage with an outside firm and then taken over by coaches. You better know damn well what is being "taught and by whom. Kids can spot a phony a mile away. You need to be someone kids can relate to or at least listen and consider the advice being given. Not freaking easy to do.

We should be stronger up the middle on D. The O-line must be strong from the get -go. Curtis and Trudo could be quality competitors The running game MUST be what Doug wants for a change . Not just a clock strategy. Nassib will bounce back. so I expect that part of the offense to be a threat. Spring ball should reveal Hale to be a factor in the fall. Lemon will be the pre-season star of the offense. George will give us the speed from the backfield lacking for a long time.

Again Marrone's system and the way he runs the program is not for everyone and during a losing season can wear players down. People can blow it off all they want but its a concern when its causign players ie Graham and Shamarko to leave and influencing Chandler. People dont realize how bad things had gotten by the end of the season.

I'll say it again. Marrone has two years to get us back to a bowl game. Not win a bowl game, just get back to a bowl game. If not, he's toast.

I think we have to take into consideration that we hired a guy with no head coaching experience.

I'm not saying it can't work. But I think about it more everyday.

One year from what I am hearing, if we dont get to a bowl game next year the hammer may fall. Some higher ups were not pleased with the finish (not the admin) fball boosters.

Shuuuuuuuuuu next thing you know you will be asked to stop posting.

Yes that is very actually more true than you can imagine. Doug is liked but he needs to have a good year.

Does this mean Juco Bryan Johnson from Nassau CC will now get an offer and will help to fill the huge gap due to Chandler's departure?

Are you the guy complaining about the young players not getting on the field. Shouldn't you be consistent and see this as a good thing?

Yeah, I've thought about that too.

Except then I realized that now he has three years of head coaching experience, so I think the time to blame that has passed.

If boosters are harping and he needs to have a good year, well, it's not good for Doug.

Just wondering, Go. Do you see this as a good thing?
