Good to see the Bills are in mid-season form

Coughlin should be the guy if they are smart.
Of course the Bills could always hire Jeff Fisher because why not.
Shannhan's dad will advise him not to take his first HC job in Belichick'a division.

If Whaley goes, one needs to hire a GM before a coach - no?

Doesn't sound like Whaley is going to be fired, I was hoping we would clean house totally but the Pegulas don't want to go that far at least not yet.

Saw on Twitter (same source who called Rex being fired today) that Bills are very interested in Lynn as permanent HC and would like to switch back to the 4-3.

I would rather get someone more experienced but Lynn has at least shown he know what he is doing from an offensive standpoint. Really hope we speak with Schwartz and Coughlin as well.

If Ralph Wilson was still there, Fisher might actually be a possibility but no way with the Pegula's.

I'm OK with that (the Reggie Bush end around notwithstanding) but hope they throw a boatload of money at Schwartz to return as DC.
I would LOVE that scenario. Lynn as HC with Schwartz as DC would be incredible.

He just has to promise to never do that again.

Bills need a tall physical receiver if Tyrod stays (among other things).

There's this kid in CNY that might be worth a look in the 3rd or 4th round.

It's weird. I'm glad they fired him and know it's the right decision but I can't bring myself to hate on Rex or make jokes. He's a good dude who wanted this season to be special for his dad and it just sucks that it didn't work out.

Rex got a 5 year 30 million dollar deal.
Wow I give Pegula credit for eating 18 million your old owner was too cheap to do that.
You guys need a smart young defensive guy. As the offense needs to stay the same to continue momentum. If your OC became HC find a good DC and next year AFC East will have 3 good teams.
Buffalo has talent. I do expect NE to upgrade its roster as well they are likely going to get a first round pick plus for Garapolio thanks to the Bradford payment from Minnesota to Philly and
they have over 60 million in cap space with only 2 guys to pay.
What is the Bills cap situation?

Yea, Pegula is serious about winning and is one of the richest owners in the league. Dramatic difference between he and Ralph.

We don't have a ton of room but we're also not cap strapped. If we keep Taylor and Gilmore, that will eat a lot of it. I also expect us to try and resign Z. Brown who will command a bigger contract.

Not sure what the cap situation is with Aaron Williams if he retires.

I look forward to a similar thread next season.

Bills fans are the best to watch from afar.

When Ryan's replacement is hired, this will be the AFC East money stat:
NE coaches since 2000: 1.
Mia/Buf/NYJ coaches since 2000: 23.

I think if Kyle Williams retires, about 8 million will be freed up. I believe the Bills plan on having a pretty decent amount of cap space maybe 30 million or so but as you noted depending on Gilmore and Brown that can be reduced pretty quickly.

Eh... I think the bigger money stat is QB's since 2000.

They need a linebacker as well. Preston Brown is terrible and I hope they have a plan B for Zach Brown if he commands more money in free agency than they are able to afford.

Even Zach wasn't very good after the first few games IMO. Upgrades/decisions among the front 7 depends a ton on the new defensive coaches. If they go back to a 4-3, guys like Preston Brown are suddenly a better fit in the defense than he was in the Ryan 3-4.

IMO, Buffalo should return to the 4-3 and then re-sign Preston to backup Ragland. Preston will be a cheaper option than Zach, and he's already proven effective in the 4-3.

I'm not so sure about that. The Shanahan's seemed pretty receptive to the Bills position before Rex was hired. I could easily see them ending up in Buffalo together.

My money is on Lynn though.

Ian Rapoport is saying Buffalo is interested in re-signing EJ Manuel.

I know the guy is a clown and rubs some people the wrong way, but I just don't see the point in firing someone after two years, unless they are completely inept, and that wasn't the case, they were somewhat competitive.

I would generally agree but the defense regressed under him and that was his calling card.

Will be tough for Rex to get a job as a defensive coordinator right. Took over a Bills team that was ranked #1 on defense and in the two years since he took them over they are ranked near the bottom of the NFL. Rex will go do TV for a few years until everyone forgets about his last 5 or so years as a head coach then some dumb owner will hire him again.

Poor Rex and Rob Ryan will be doing some emotional binge eating and tossing and turning at night with nightmares of Jay Ajayi running up and down the field on their defenses...lol

Dave Toub ST at KC seems to be getting some play. I think they can keep Lynn without promoting him to HC but we will see. I think it will either be Lynn or somebody under the radar, don't buy any of the bigger names, unless they can get TC, keep Lynn and say he's only going to coach 2-3 years. Then TC just needs to find his DC.

I don't see TC putting up with Whaley and Brandon though, jus don't see it. In addition, I just got down to Florida today from Ithaca and asked myself why the would coughlin not go back to Jacksonville in some capacity if he still wants to be involved in either coaching or front office.. screw the weather up there and I'm 42.

I just got back to NY from NC today and asked myself why I, or anyone else, actually lives up here. It really sucks for more than half the year. Ridiculous.

As it's certainly true, misery indeed loves company, which is why this lifelong Jets fan is posting on a Bills thread. Please note it's commiseration, not taunting and baiting. :noidea:

One never knows for certain what went on during the negotiation phase, but promising/guaranteeing a playoff spot in two years is hardly outside his bravado quotient. Did it happen? Hell if I know, but it's well within reason to figure something like that went down.
