Goodell needs to be fired after watching the Rice video

jim brown should be thankful there weren't cameras everywhere back in the day

No doubt about it. I'm glad that the greatest football player ever went to SU, but as a human being he was/is a piece of .

If there was a video of me knocking my gf out with a devastating haymaker, I would 1,000% be fired by my employer. It's not a "domestic dispute." It's a dude knocking out his gf and dragging her limp, unconscious body out of an elevator in a public place. Additionally, since NYS is an employment-at-will state, they could fire me for just about anything they damn well please. And I'm not in a unionized job, so I wouldn't be able to run and hide behind the union after I beat the crap out of my gf.

I agree. I know at our firm, a low level exempt employee was told to quit or get fired after being arrested (not convicted) for DWI. They were told if they voluntarily quit they'd get a small severance package and unemployment, if they didn't they'd get no severance and the employer would fight unemployment benefits. When the employee checked with a lawyer they were told that being an "at will" labor state, they could be let go for any reason unless there was discrimination (no union of course) and the severance package was up to the employers' disgression. They might have an issue regarding the unemployment benefits but even that wasn't clear-cut. The person quit.

I don't think how hard he hit her was what 'baffled' me (meaning, we all saw the footage of her unconscious on the ground -- this is the real world, not the movies, it was pretty obvious without seeing the elevator footage that he had hit her full force). What's shocking is that it was framed to make his wife sound so much worse than she was. She might have tried to slap him with an open palm (or maybe she put her finger or hand in his face -- I didn't really want to watch the video twice to figure it out), which isn't right, but having her apologize in front of the national media like she was going at him with a baseball bat as a cause of this is terrible.
Yep, the Ravens and the NFL made sure that dog and pony show went out to the world. pathetic on every level. If she came at him with a deadly weapon on that elevator, then he can do what he did. I would say that an open palm does not fit that description, eh?

Schefter is not a happy man: http://deadspin.com/adam-schefter-is-fed-up-with-the-nfl-1631937239

This is what happens when a league lies to reporters' faces. Even the tamest of them, like Schefter, who is basically the gold standard for one-note NFL insiders who exist only to pass on information and occasionally do some tacit shilling, end up turning into Keith Olbermann live on SportsCenter. That's really all you need to know in order to understand just how badly the NFL has this whole situation up.

im not kidding.. was just having the discussion with HR people, they cant imagine how you could get fired from most jobs for this. If you were union it would not be a question you wouldnt get touched. perhaps high profile stuff where you had some morals clause, but not any regular employee, let alone if no charges really got filed.
Are you in an at-will employment state?

I dont get the added reaction today. What did people think it looked like when the description was rice knocked a woman out cold?

I don't want to be the token female pointing this out but I wish a tape existed of every single person brutalized in this fashion, with the public shame and outrage accompanying it. It happens every single day.
The fact that she actually apologized and then married him shows fear, not a desire for a paycheck. That video was so difficult to watch. He assaulted her, but almost worse was the callous way he treated her unconscious body. The guy is a frigging sociopath

I have no doubt that many people knew about this video and are now performing the circular firing squad that generally happens when the fecal matter hits the rotor. The whole thing- every aspect- sickens me

Holy , just heard the Ravens terminated his contract. Good.

Will the Raiders give him a shot... next year?
With Belichick's obsession over Rutgers players I sadly wouldn't be shocked if next year he were a Patriot. Goodell needs to tage him with an indefinite suspension right now and make him seek counseling and do all the right things to even be gien a second chance next season.

This was the front page of the Ravens website after their second preseason game. Those fans should be ashamed.

More punishment should be coming, though what a joke it was to begin with.

Saw this the other day after the Welker suspension:

NFL employee: "Welker popped Molly"

Commish: "Supsend him two games"

Employee: "Sir, Molly is a drug"

Commish: "Oh, in that case suspend him four games

welker "I wouldn't know where to find Molly"

Jim Rome " how about your pocket":rolling:

"

There I fixed it for you

Cherie I belong to a trades union and the "at will" still applies to us and it happens all the time.

When a DRINKING BUDDY GETS LAID OFF the foreman will look to see who he can get rid of and hire his buddy and vice versa. It's a game that goes back and forth

I'm not sure they should be ashamed, a lot of new information has come out since that game. I think the NFL and the Ravens tried to completely manipulate the public in the way that they portrayed the apologies and Rices' press conference. They made it seem like it was a two sided "fight" and that Ray was as much a victim as he was guilty of what he did. The NFL and the Ravens made Ray's wife give a nationally broadcasted apology for apparently shoving a finger in Rice's face or giving Rice an openhanded slap. It's almost comical when you think they portrayed the situation like that, when you remember that Ray is a guy that has tried to pick a fight with JJ Watt...

The Ravens fans fell for it because they gave their favorite team the benefit of the doubt.

this sport is too meatheaded to deduce what happened on that elevator before he captain caveman'd her away.

"in light of new evidence that he knocked that girl out that confirms the old evidence that he knocked that girl out uhhhh durrrrr duhhhhhhhh"

and the ravens made all these mistakes to protect a dime a dozen running back. that's even more meatheaded

My conspiracy theory is that the NFL had not seen the tape and investigators wouldn't give it to them because the ravens and the investigators were in cahoots. Now that it's out, the ravens release him trying to put an end to the whole thing before they are exposed.

Roger Goodell has announced that based on new video evidence that became available today he has indefinitely suspended Ray Rice.

Looks like he's done for at least this season.

and if this casino didn't go out of business I would be willing to make a wager that this video still doesn't exist

Ray's daughter has such good role models as parents. One wonders if child protective services have been or will be involved.

Honestly, Roger Goodell RESIGN I used to like you back when you took for Tags in 2006. However, your a joke who is more of a hack than any commissioner ever. Gary Bettman and David Stern look good compared to you. This guy is a hack and sucks. Go away Roger its a joke you make 44 million dollars a year while the highest paid player only makes 20 million.
