Shafer can motivate the team, clearly. But he can't be a CEO that being a head coach requires. Horrible time management, punt/go for it decisions, assistant coach hirings that are all his friends and not best guys. We are a missed field goal and miracle drive away from 8-14 under Shafers control. COMPLETE SET BACK from the Marrone era. The continuity that everyone hoped would continue has done nothing.

He will get another season because of injuries, but unless serious staff changes are made, next season will be his last. Next years team will be less talented and probably play a harder schedule. Hoping for the worst. Expecting the worst.

Damn, if only Shafer were a healer to magically heal all ~20 players on the injury report. God, what a terrible head coach! We should be kissing his ass that this team wasn't beaten by 50 today. 10 points with the offensive personnel he's forced to put out there may be a minor miracle.

No you're not.

The defense is Shafers and it's it's fantastic. I love how some of you seem to not to acknowledge SU was playing with the second string offensive line and 4th string QB!! Do you guys get it??? 4th string QB!!! Please tell what coaching mastermind is going to win in those circumstances?? Please start throwing names out there. You guys will eat crow next year it can't come quick enough.

Everyone throwing Shafer under the bus under these circumstances shouldn't have the right to cheer for the team when they succeed next year under full strength.

Does the 4th string qb explain why we can't make it through a half of football without burning all of our timeouts??? Does it explain the moronic play calling???

Agreed I don't even think these guys should be allowed to post at all right now. They so lack objectivity it's amazing What did anyone expect? I think it's a bear miracle that they actually could have won this game. SU at full strength would easily beat Duke.

Because other football teams don't have injuries. If this was basketball, I'd be with you, but not CFB.

3 things..

We need better depth

Less fragile players

Better S&C

Teams that are poorly coached and constantly overmatched rack up injuries. That's this team.

I have seen some mistakes this year but I think Shafer still has time to grow. Marrone made some bad decisions his first two years. The really interesting thing is who is hired to take McDonald's spot. Hopefully it is an older experienced coach.

Not saying I was a huge fan of the play calling, but we didn't burn all of our timeouts in either half today. Plenty of things to gripe about, but timeouts is way down the list.

Maybe so, BUT I watch other football games too, I can't think of any other program that is consistently good for at least 1 or 2 What timeouts per half.

1 or 2 is different than 'all'. I watch other football games, too. We are not all alone here. As I said, complain about a lot of things, but timeouts is way down the list.

Alright, the Shafer hate is now over-the-top. He's going to get next season no matter what, so turn it down a notch, folks.

They need to figure out the offense, no question about it. Hunt's injury didn't help. He screwed up by firing McF**kit when he did, imo. But that isn't quite a fireable offense, just add it to his list.

I expected a breakout season (as did many) and we're going to get 3-9 instead. That really sucks.

But
Shafer is going to get 2015 at least so might as well grit your teeth until next September and hope for the best.

Second string offensive line with the 4 th string qb. Seriously does anyone get that? Not to mention two best WR out.

I absolutely agree - before this game our offense was just killing it. Special Teams too, been really "special" this year.

Exactly; it's like we signed a 5 year non-aggression pact on return yards.
Edit: Except for Brisly in the bowl game last year...

People can rationalize all they want, but Shafer will never, ever win more than 5 games a season. So if you want to go through a 2-10 or 3-9 season next year under this regime to prove the point, which is absolutely certain to happen, so be it. In the process SU football is going to be killed for a generation.

Question - how many players were out for Villanova or Maryland ?

I know it wouldn't ever happen but I'd love to see some big name, disgraced head coach(like Petrino) for us. Someone with some national recognition so maybe we can get a recruit who isn't lesser or equal to 3 stars

Um he already did?

This team is a decent offense away from being pretty good. It's a pretty good offense away from being REALLY good.

So, yeah, we should fire Shafer right now. Ridiculous. His regime only brings in one of the best recruiting classes we've had in a long time, defense plays really well and A LOT of freshman saw time this year.

Do I agree with SOME game time decisions? Not at all. Some are glaringly stupid. But NO coach should ever be given only 2 years. Shafer is the right man for the job. I think it will become evident next year, and maybe even evident in the final 2 games--as long as Wilson is not running the offense.

Shafer already told you it is Lester.
