Greg Paulus Press Conference | Dec 1

Paulus: "First, it's just great to be with you here, talking about a game and a season. ... We're excited to begin the journey."

Paulus on his team coming back from a pause: "One of the first things that we tried to do is making sure that everybody's healthy and taking the proper protocols." Said it's a gradual build-up getting his team back. He said he wasn't sure when they returned to practice.

Paulus said the team looked into opportunities to play before the Syracuse opener. He said the team is using film from last year's game to prep. He likened the window to a midseason conference game last year (going Friday-Sunday for instance).

Paulus said that playing Syracuse and all that comes with it is a tremendous opportunity for Niagara as a program. For him personally, "This is home. ... I've always been proud, no matter where I've played, coached, been, to say that Syracuse is home. It's helped raise me."

Paulus said he doesn't know what an empty Dome will feel like. Operations is a priority right now. They got the bench layout yesterday, figuring out travel logistics, entry procedure, etc.

Paulus after a year of coaching under his belt: "You go from making suggestions and thinking you would make certain decisions... And then going through that view, you're able to learn what works, what doesn't work, this is what I want us to be. ... It takes time to do that."

Paulus said his schedule was initially finalized in March/April. Then it moved over the summer and again multiple times recently as teams have dealt with pauses. "It changes every day."

Paulus said he's viewing team preparation through a long-term lens. Believes Niagara will learn a lot about itself on Thursday. Until then, it's about incremental growth in practice.
