GS had a good Game

We need to get him out of the pocket so he can either run or pass. The fact that we called a QB draw up the gut last drive is mind boggling.
It almost looked like a broken play….swear to god he stood there for a sec looking like”why do I still have the ball?”. That play looked shot from the start. Not sure what happened.

Someone PLEASE explain to me why we opened the game the way we did on our first two offensive drives. Many of us were talking about this very thing before the game. I even said, that I hope we don't just try to rely on basic runs up the middle and go 3 and out on our first two drives and fall behind and THEN adjust. I'm no football coach, I don't pretend to be at all. However, we knew what FSU was going to do and yet we start the game that vanilla. We were lucky not to fall 14 points behind.

Now, to the coaching staff's credit, they adjusted and did so quickly (but why not from the very beginning??). Shrader looked like a different QB allowing him to roll out and take advantage of his running ability. I'm not sold on this coaching staff.

He’s what everyone has been asking for. We might be undefeated if he started the year. Yes this team needs a QB who can run over defenders. Good speed too got to the edge a few times I didn’t think he would. We aren’t losing next week if he plays like that.

Yeah, I think you may be right although I don't really blame the coaching staff for starting Devito in the beginning of the season. However, I do think Shrader is a bit limited but as he gets more games under his belt, I think we will see more wrinkles, confidence, and the ability to get yards when they're needed. Hell, we saw that today when the coaches started rolling him out more. This may not be fair, but he appears to be a poor man's version of Dungey. That said, I'll take it more so than what we've seen the last couple of years.

I wasn’t optimistic about today. After the ugly start I feel pretty good about the rest of our games. We should have won by a couple scores.

No one is giving GS for how good he has been on the ground last 2 weeks and he doesn’t have star WRs. I can live with 1-2 poor throws a game when he’s on the run. WRs finally looked serviceable without Taj.

Dungey was great at moving the chains with his legs but he couldn’t outrun defenses to the end zone like Shrader can. And I’m not sure our WRs are doing a good job getting open for him when the play breaks down. He should have been building chemistry with them first 3 weeks it was a mistake to go with Tommy. That said we’re moving in the right direction here. I think we’re gonna be 4-2 going into Clemson.

You know I just watched the shortened version. All of the Syracuse Florida State game and I was just curious if anybody knows what is Schrader's 40 time because that dude is fast. You know I don't know if he's maybe he just looks faster than it really is but I mean he's just like pulling away from everybody so this could be like Michael Vick type not that quite but you know in the proximity I guess LOL

He had me worried a bit after that first quarter but he definitely turned it around for sure.

He looks slow until you see him pulling away from linebackers. Sneaky fast long strider.

I don't think he's quick twitch like a Lamar Jackson, but he's a long strider who gets to top speed pretty quickly. And he's so big, he's a load to bring down once he's got a head of steam. Quite a weapon as a runner.

I'm sorry I didn't see any part where he seems slow. Is it possible where his acceleration is in top-notch possibly but you're saying slow no not at all this kid can run

From what I've seen from the scores Wake Forest seems to have a bad defense or not a real good one, Not Top Notch so I think we could definitely take advantage of that and I think this game will be closer then some people think or even a win. The way I see Wake Forest is kind of the same when it comes to Talent as us but it seems or it is that they have more consistency So that obviously means some of the coaching is better so we need to close that Gap

Shrader is clearly a winner. Let's go ahead and say it -he reminds us of a certain #2. Similar heart.
He will only get better as he gets experience and practice reps.
A poor man’s #2. Never gonna be another Eric Dungey

GS had a good game. Certainly something to build on. Missing a wide open Tucker in middle of the field on 3rd and 7 on our last possession was a killer. Instead he threw the long incomplete. Tucker easily had the first down and would have kept the drive alive into FG range. That misread hurt. I hope he can improve on that.

Didn’t get to watch the game live (boys soccer trumps even Cuse games) - but watched the first half.

He played really well. I owe him an apology - his throwing motion *can be* pretty good when he sets his feet. Needs to get more consistent. But - I love the fight and his running alongside Tucker gives our WR some room to operate.

Courtney Jackson had a couple of nice catches.

This D + RB + Garrett growing into the offense? We have a shot at every game.

Not comparing GS to Dungey, but he doesn’t have the WR’s that the latter had. No Ish, Amba, Ervin, Custis.
Ish and Custis were both big targets with speed. What happened to this?

He lost

Most teams have had their starting QB taking 1st team reps all spring and summer AND had four full games under their belts going in to Saturday. As late as last week, GS was still splitting reps with TD and he had only one full game this season before yesterday. Sterlin Gilbert doesn't even have a good idea of what he can do with him yet - but he will (or should) shortly.

As Vooh said "No Ish, Amba, Ervin, Custis. Ish and Custis were both big targets with speed." GS had nobody of that caliber yesterday. (On the other hand, Eric didn't have #34 either.)

Vooh is exactly right and I WILL compare him to ED - sophomore year to sophomore year. He's not as quick as Eric but he is bigger than Eric was in his sophomore year and sees the field just as well if not better. Both are/were so so passers. Not sure who is faster but both are/were fast enough.

If we set aside ED's 3rd and 4th year heroics for a moment (hard to do) and imagine both were playing at the same time they would both look pretty similar - again sophomore to sophomore. Shrader is not a "poor man's Dungy" or poor man's anything. If you can't see his heart look again.

I for one am encouraged and excited for the future, if not his season, 2022, 2023 and beyond (hello Mr. Lamson).
LOG!

People forget Dungey wasn’t Dungey yet as a soph. Even his senior year people were calling for Devito to replace him at one point.
Shrader is very Dungey like - runs well, struggles with deeper balls and wears his heart on his sleeve.
He has a lot to accomplish to be on par with #2 but give him time to develop

How many seasons does Shred have left after this one?
