Guess I don't understand the rush to join SEC etc.

My understanding is they are plussing up to 50k after the Big12 announcement...

Could be in future, but I believe this year the renovations that started last year actually reduced seating down from 46K to either 44 or 45K anticipating a Big East schedule at the time.

So, unless they move a couple of big games to a larger stadium, they won't average 50K this year.

Cheers,
Neil

If you think SU will become a football factory, you're clueless.

It will never happen - it can't happen - and it has never been what SU is.

In the best of all worlds, SU Football will be a consistent top 25 team with an occassional top 10 and maybe top 5 finish. It will never truly compete for a NC - at least with the BCS system in place. There is a big difference between SU FB and SU BB.

And that's where SU fans get it wrong I think.

That's why so many on this board feel such frustation with the program at times.

Too many have the misguided notion that we are Ohio State or Alabama or Penn State or Va Tech for that matter - or that we should be those kinds of schools. We are not structurally capable of being those kinds of schools and we never will be.

Our endowment is not even $1 billion for gosh sakes - Stanford has an endowment of $16 billion - Notre Dame has an endowment of $7 billion, USC has an edowment of $3.5 billion and Boston College has an endowment of $1.7 billion.

BC has twice what we do.

If you root for the kind of college football world that I think you're rooting for - a few mega schools that reside in the south - then it is you that is foreshadowing the demise of Syracuse University football - not me. The world is passing by and you clearly don't understand the ramifications of what may be happening.

I see exactly what is happening and what is "passing by" and I don't like it - not because I don't like big time college football - but because I think it will eventually relegate the program I have watched for 43 years.

I want the game to allow for competition by the many - including Syracuse University - not the few - four conferences.

The kind of consolidation that is apparently occuring is not in our best interests - and you don't get it

Sorry you don't.
i abso-tively, posi-lutly get it.

for starters, the BCS is gone. its dead. when MCA isnt blowing its mind, donna summer is singing disco and whitney is belting out the national anthem.

i am more than aware that SU will never be a factory.

all i want is a seat at the big boy table and a chance, just a chance...that they can put it all together 1 year and win the whole damn thing.

i most certainly do not think we are osu, bama, penn st or even vpi for that matter. WE can HOWEVER, catch lightening in a bottle once in a blue moon. and at the end of the day, isnt that what sports are all about?? the 69 mets. 85 nova. the 07 and 11 Giants. and before you say...you named 3 pro teams...thats the flukin point. college football is now a pro sport.

thanks for bringing up the endowment, i hope it rushes for 1ooo yards this year for bc.

Cool...well anyway they have a record number of season tickets and my understanding is they are going to expand more.

I actually agree with most of this. I long for the Major Eastern Indies. If you can some how get us back to 1966, I am signed up.

Just as Conference Championships devalue regular season games, so will a National Championship Tourney further devalue the regular season games. Our guy Boeheim just said the Big East Tourney isn't important. Only the NCAA tourney is important.

I also agree that SU in the long run can't keep up in football. It lacks the size and resources and the location and the fan base.

The drive to reduce the number of schools and to increase the value of a few games comes from Television and the media. That's what they want and they are the big winners in this. The networks and media would like college football to resemble the NFL.

The big losers are the second and third tier schools. Their games are being reduced in meaning.

The question then is will we be one of those second tier schools? Hard to believe the Indianas and Vanderbilts will get a shot and we won't!

Classy post. You disagree with him and you tell him to stay away and move.

some posters get a longer leash than others.

We Cuse fans need to pick up our game...if we can get 45-49k actual fans consisently in the Dome, keep it rocking, we'll be relevant again. Playing FSU, Clemson, VTech, BC, UNC, etc..will help

BTW, TCU is killing it in their season tix totals...they will average 50k this year. I don't see that with Cuse but I think we'll spike up 5-7k in seasons for 2013.

I wonder how many of those signed up after the Horned Frogs ditched the Big East?

I agree with most of that. When the conditions are right you have to take advantage since SU is not a factory that has a revolving door of 4/5 star recruits. For me that's why the McNabb years were so frustrating. I feel the program left some on the table. I'm not talking about a national title here. I would have been happy with a 10 win season.

I don't know if they will be getting a shot or serving as tackling dummies.

Well, I think there were three 9 win seasons and an 8 win season - plus Fiest, Orange, Liberty and Gator Bowls - I'll take it.
