Harris, Johnson, Johnson, and Howard need to play more

I think some of you are making too much out of this game. We saw young players going against a defense worse than our 2nd unit. Staff gets a better evaluation watching scout team film.

Mabye with regards to Howard but not Butler.

This is more about eye test and as was mentioned these kids just look more fluid, athletic, faster, stronger. The opponent was the same for all the kids.

Butler is a junior, not sure why there has to be patience with him. But he’s playing out of position if you ask me.

And NJohnson is greater than Riley by a large margin.

Lemon was called Lemon drop? I thought he had great hands from day 1.

How much was I drinking back then?

You were probably drinking quite a bit.

I know I shouldn't be surprised that elements of the fan base are clamoring for players who looked good not only against second team opponents, but Wagner level second team opponents.

That's not to say it isn't encouraging to see these players in action and what they have to offer, but there is a massive grain of salt that needs to be taken when evaluating their play.

Probably, but it's still only a select few true freshmen who have seen the field, and the only reason for that is because of what they've shown the staff already. No point in wasting one of the 4 redshirt protection games this early.

The problem with Butler is that even if he gets it together (and I think he will), there's always going to be that back of your mind feeling that he's likely to have a drop in a big spot in a big game. Dino came into the year with that feeling, and now it's probably worse.

Howard is just exciting because he's the prototype at his position. Strickland and Neal aren't exactly. But he has a lot to learn about the role, so who knows how much more he'll be phased in after the UConn game. I'd guess we don't see him against FSU, barring injury.

Javeon Hoards guns are very DC3-esque, if no one has mentioned that, dude looks like he can curl a buick.

Armstrong, Clarke, Shy, and Melaf all looked like they might push starters aside by mid season.

Clarke sits behind Cisco--a true freshman with 3 interceptions--so I find it hard to believe that he beats out Cisco. Maybe he'll replace Foster?

Never heard that one.
Lemon did not become a good to great possesion receiver until his junior year, dropped a lot of balls thrown his way. The fans around me all called him Lemon drop early in his career. I guess you were not in that group,

I get it. IMO you have to be careful managing struggling players. Gonna need them at some point. Dont want to completely destroy their confidence. Its obvious that the younger guys are more talented. Its not always about that. Ive been big on Harris since he signed but Im also not ready to say I trust him every down in ACC play. Is he ready for the whole route tree? Will he make a significant block that can determine a game? We don't know yet. There's so much about the position than just catching balls. Signals, check with me's, audibles, coverage reads. Just route running alone determines if other receivers get open. Young receivers tend to struggle with that. Once the other guys do everything well enough they will make the move if Butler continues to struggle. Im sure his reps in practice are reducing more and more at this point.

That's basically my recollection. I did a search of this site and there were definitely some lemon drop references from back in the day.

Oh I guess I have missed this board the last few years... I'm pretty sure it was actually Go himself who coined Lenom Drop in a game chat like at Wake Forest or something. Not sure I've been away from here so long I feel some of that trivia slipped though my brain stem cracks.

Frederick had issues covering Wagners WR. I hope he doesn’t bring that into the FSU game. I think 21 and 23 will be all ACC in 2 years.

Yeah got question, what the heck is going on with our corners. Last week Bradshaw and this week Fredericks. Obviously bump and run isn’t their thing or are they getting beat playing soft. Cisco seemed much better this game and Cordy did ok too. Love the all freshmen playing together later in game. Hate that they didn’t do same with lb. Howard looks awesome but problem is he didn’t know where to line up which is a problem. Major difference in his running as he is so explosive. Need to start Harris with Johnson and Custis. Start throwing the ball to pierce a little more please. Can devito catch a break at all. Watch next year with Chance. He once he gets offense could push Devito really hard or even replace him. I have heard great things. Definitely need to get shy and Richards a little run with lb cuz we ain’t cutting it so far. Seems our lb are getting blocked fairly easily. Our oline opened nice holes and Elmore is a great blocker. Neal and strick had solid game just think if it was Howard running he woulda had more yards. Heard Adams is even faster than Howard so that will be awesome next year. Just my two cents.

it helped that the QB for Wagner didnt have time to throw much beyond the deep ins and slants.

That is what I hoping for to happen all year vs every team. The DB's and LB's to a point need to get their sea legs going and some confidence and the DL HAS to be huge in the FSU game.

Lost me at Fredericks. He left -- now at U Mass. Chris Fredrick is our CB.

I feel comfortable adding #19 to that list as well. That youthful secondary is so encouraging.

I couldn't watch the game so I'm only going by what I've read on here, but it sounds like Howard may be our best runner. If he is as good as some have suggested, I hope the mental parts such as making line calls don't keep him off of the field too long. It gets frustrating seeing factories march out freshman running backs that tear it up while we can't.

Butler is definately running out of time, but I do not think he should be written off just yet, I hope he gets it together. I agree patience for him is on the cusp.
