Harvard Gameday...

One adjustment that id like to see would be the offense to control tempo. We don't have to always be 100mph. Try to pass the ball around and go at 15-20 seconds when we have lead. That will hopefully help with the turnovers and help the defense in my opinion. The offense had about 16 TOs yesterday and most were unforced which led to Harvard having extra possessions. Slowing it down with a lead will also make the opponent press out and open the field.

Trying to reload from losing Mark, Olexo, Wright, Stevens, and Kohn has not gone well at all. We have minimal depth at our defensive/rope unit spots, and the staff clearly do not trust the backups. Goalie being between two guys is always a major concern. Offense has to be on for 4 quarters or we will struggle against top teams. Their choke job late is still what cost us the game, but Harvard getting to 15 on us and scoring on 50% of their possessions is a major red flag for the defense. No health issues on that end either. Just an extremely demoralizing game, between the defense getting exposed and yet another offensive collapse.

Not sure how can say anderson is a bust when he hasn’t gotten a fair shot. The short time he did play he’s scored. He’s freshmen who hasn’t played in two games. Don’t mean cause he isn’t good could be cause coaches don’t see talent or to dumb to try him.
Exactly. I would like to see him get a legitimate run at some serious PT.

Dwan was banged up and clearly not 100% yesterday.

Yeah this team is missing the hustle plays that Stevens and Olexo would make. Can't teach heart u gotta have it. Hopefullly some guys step up ASAP.

All i really got from that presser by gait is? He has no idea what to do or how to fix things. Yes a lot of coach talk but nothing insightful or anything to suggest he’s gonna fix our problems. He needs to have little panic yes early but the road is only gonna get tougher n played 1 top (maryland) team n 1 middle team(harvard) (towson, jax , vermont) are not even top 20 teams. Towson is 0-4 so forget bout that game how looked or not.

Also anyone in know if able to find out anything bout injuries thru-out week would be super. Rhoa get day to to day but what bout dwan. Birt im almost positive he’s done for year by how injury looked.

His next media availability is usually Thursday.

gary has to wipe that smile off his face...i know his whole thing is unflappable cool as a cucumber which is fine but would it kill him to show a little anger or something...makes it seem like he doesn't care or see the urgency in the situation...he is who he is but i find it off-putting in a situation like this

finally watched the replay...i dont have much to add beyond what was said already...heroic effort by mullen and thompson in defeat...rhoa's injury better not be serious because without him they have little speed or dodging on offense...but to me the bigger issue was the defensive performance. harvard scored on almost half their possessions...cant blame it all on mccool

they will regroup and be better but has to be a wake up call...outside of notre dame and maryland, maybe cornell, it still feels like anyone's ballgame...

Anderson actually hasn’t played in the last 3 games. He saw no time vs Towson.
The only reason i can think for this is they are trying to redshirt him. Not even sure if playing first 2 games still can happen or not. But if not the reason he hasn’t played then why in the world is he not getting a chance.

Bizarre

That's what I thought but Jeremy was right yesterday when it's just playing in a game in lax. Where other sports are percentage of games.

Is Donny Scott recovered from last years injury? He was a highly touted recruit. Maybe just getting back to game speed? Roha was seriously missed yesterday, he brings a lot to that offense as a shooter and dodger. Commands a lot of attention and opens the rest of the offense up. Mccarthy seems like a good dodger but seems to lack confidence.

Anderson was running on the 3rd mid line with Hottle and Cordes.

We haven't seen the 3rd line play since Vermont.

If Rhoa misses any time, maybe we'll see a reshuffling of the lines.

NCAA rules (apply to all sports) ... You can take an injury redshirt if:
  • You have a season ending injury
  • You have played in no more than 30% of the regular season
  • You are injured during the 1st half of the season.

14 regular season games.

14 x 30% = 4.2, rounded up to 5 games.

If Anderson is done for the season, he can take the year as a redshirt.

It's very simple: Harvard played good lacrosse. And I’m pretty sure Garry said it himself – he won’t yell or get mad at the players. You could basically see this summed up with 2 minutes left in the game yesterday. During the man-up huddle, Joey was running the chat. Garry had no input; he was just nodding his head. Anyway, not sure you can really 'yell' at players at the Syracuse level, or any level anymore, to be honest. Coaches might be afraid players will pack their bags, enter the portal, complain to their parents, etc. (soft in my opinion, and something to do with the social media era).

I've been playing lacrosse since I could walk and it’s the only sport I follow, to be honest. I've had a lot of coaches over the years (from 6 years old through college). I played on a very good travel team from the Island, long before travel teams were a thing. Our coach was the man; I respected him, looked up to him, and aspired to play at the level of lacrosse he expected and played himself (I know the Cuse players feel the same way about Gate). He was brutally honest with us. I still remember when I was playing timidly at a tournament upstate. During a timeout, he grabbed me by my face mask (I’ll spare the expletives) and basically told me to man up and stared through my sole.

Take it or leave it, but I really don’t think you can coach like that anymore. It’s unfortunate because these players are so skilled and know the game. They do need to be humbled, though, and worked into the ground like in the good old days. Just my take – hurtful loss. Go Cuse!
